I say Joseph wins, because of two factors: 1) Unlike MANY JoJo characters, Joseph knows when to run away. This gives him an extra edge in any sort of "unprepared" situation, just because he'll have an extra step making an escape compared to most. 2) While Dio and Joseph may have similar brains smarts, Joseph has superior emotional smarts. Joseph may pretend to have pride, but when it comes right down to it it's usually just an act to deceive his opponent. Joseph will sink to any level to push his opponent's buttons, and Dio has many many many such buttons to push.

And while both Joseph and Dio are geniuses, DIO’s more of a strategist while Joseph is a trickster. Neither play fair, but Joseph knows how to get his opponents to out themselves and defeat themselves to a degree. Dio is more about gathering allies or minions to his side to weaken his opponents and get information on them without risk to himself. Joseph's whole gimmick as a teen was to wiggle his way out of impossible situations. If you get into the discussion of fate within Jojo, Dio is literally fated to lose every single time. [Spoiler territory!] The only way he even achieves his dream is through someone else, because Dio's own arrogance causes him to lose almost every single time. Every victory Dio ever achieves comes at a major cost. He beats Jonathan and takes his body but gets stuck in a coffin for decades. He beats Old Joseph and gets his blood but loses to Jotaro. So maybe he could beat Joseph, but he'd certainly die in the process.
@chseis3leep2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great take but if we’re talking in a what if fight lore or plot has nothing to do with it, it is just the two characters put up against each other based off attributes that they may have to beat each other For instance that’s like saying if jotaro is fighting a dio with twr jotaro will automatically get those powers since they are basically the same stand. It's crazy how underpowered Joseph is (all parts, 2-4) compared to other characters, in terms of ability and strength in a lot of cases. Atleast in my opinion his strength is almost always mental and not physical, using what physical abilities he has to it's max combined with advanced tactics to take down opponents and that's why he's so strong. It's not to say that he isn't physically strong, his hamon and hermit purple are pretty strong, but in comparison to most other characters he'd easily lose if he didn't have as much battle experience and intelligence. Compared to Dio, who is both cunning and powerful, who has a lot of mental weakness compared to most characters despite what it may seem. Joseph has displayed always been able to mentally manipulate his opponent, and Dio when showing his true colors is easily manipulated by Jonathan and Jotaro when he loses his cool, which is ultimately how he loses any battle. Joseph is a Character that's basically designed to be exactly that, so I'd day he'd whoop Dio somehow.

Depends. If Joseph have a bit of time to wander around, he already has advantage. When put against Joseph, your biggest enemy is time. The more time you give him, the more probable it is that he'll win. And Dio isn't exactly known for dealing with his opponents in timely manner. If Dio feels like he's sure to win, he'll take his sweet time trying to intimidate his opponent as much as possible. In the meantime Joseph will act his part, while stalling to either came up with plan involving whatever is nearby, or is already preparing something. Or he'll gather as much information and run away to start in more favourable position next time. I disagree with how your interpretation of Joseph. He is not like Batman AT ALL. He does quite the opposite: he does NO PREP and then he manages to improvise something on the run. Well, Joseph is like Batman in a sense that he is technically ready for a lot of situations. He is familiar with many tactics and techniques, and overall possess quite a lot of useful informations, as well as is incredibly resorceful. He's also not above using mindgames on his opponents, exploiting their weaknesses and insecurities. And Dio is walking insecurity. But unlike Batman, he almost always indeed improvise. He judges his situation on the run and act so he'll be in the most favourable position. If that's impossible, he'll stall and run away. Only very rarely he's coming in with a plan, and even then it's just a vague mishmash of contingency planes and loose strategy, just so he can adapt when inevitably everything goes array. Joseph is similar to batman in a same way that Johnatan is similar to Superman. There are some similarities, and if you squint hard, you can somewhat see it, but it's huge generalization of both characters

Like he already knew about Vampires, the masks and their weakness to Hamon long before he encountered Straizo, so if eel like Erina and Speedwagon must've told him about Jonathan and Dio's battle. Joseph at the beginning of the part has all the knowledge necessary to prep for Dio. He based his battle strategy he used on Straizo on what he heard about Dio. Also Joseph's main tactic is exploiting character flaws in his opponents to manipulate their behavior. He played Wamuu multiple times because he correctly identified him as being prideful and sides that to his advantage. Dio's egotism, especially in part 1, is his biggest weakness and makes him an easy target to Joseph's antics. I think this is interesting to think about. It's easy to go the A > B > C route and say that A > B and B > C which means that A > C, but it isn't that simple. The Pillar Men are terrifyingly strong against Vampires, but in a fight against Hamon users they don't have a significant advantage compared to Vampires. They resist Hamon, but a proficient enough Hamon user will still cut through them like butter. They may have a genius intellect, but having 400 IQ doesn't matter much in a fight. With enough Hamon mastery and battle smarts, fighting a Pillar Man isn't that much different to fighting a Vampire like Dio. What remains are the specific abilities and preferences of whoever's fighting. And honestly? I don't think Dio or Joseph have an inherent edge over the other in a 1v1. Both sides are geniuses, both sides can kill the other off of a single mistake, and both sides are willing to fight dirty. The specific ways Joseph MIGHT defeat Dio all come down to their surroundings, and the same is true in reverse. As far as specifics go, I see them having one major problem when fighting each other. Joseph will have issues with Dio's pragmatism. Dio almost always avoids fights he thinks he might lose, usually opting to retreat and stack the deck in his favor. Even in part 1 when his ego was at an all-time high, he still preferred to build an advantage whenever possible. Joseph might usually like fighting arrogant meatheads, but Dio is too cautious to fall for a taunt, despite his ego. Joseph will never fight Dio in a fair 1v1, which hurts him since "fair" 1v1's are Joseph's forte. Dio on the other hand, will have issues with Josephs improvisation. Dio was never particularly good at improvising, but made up for it with preparation. This makes him fairly predictable and narrowminded. If Joseph bullshits a way out of Dio's shenanigans, he has a solid chance at killing him outside of his advantage. Considering how overconfident Dio can get once he stacks the deck, Joseph has a real chance at catching him. TL;DR They both have a pretty solid chance.

Young Joseph wins, hands down. Part 1 Dio gets outscaled HARD in Part 2- and this is, without counting ultimate Kars. The Pillar Men's minions, are Vampires with the same abilities as Dio. Pre-training Joseph can beat those with smarts- and post-training Joseph gets to the point where he can fold vampires no problem, and beats Pillar Men via ingenuity. This is the problem Dio's facing, here: 1.- Hamon IS a direct counter to Vampires. Not one that the vampire can't fight back against- as shown by his freezing attack, but a counter nonetheless. 2.- Dio depended on his underhanded tactics to triumph versus Jonathan, another Hamon user... And still lost the fight itself- to the point that we got Headless Dio and part 3 happened. 3.- Joseph (at the point you're taking him) is a way better experienced and trained Hamon user. To the point where he scales not only over Jonathan, but over Lisa Lisa, too. 4.- Joseph's underhandedness is actually above and beyond Dio's. To be clear: Dio uses his underhanded tactics to f- around with people who are under him or roughly around him, power-wise, and still ends up getting clapped. Joseph, on the other hand, uses his tactics to defeat opponents well above him. The only way I can see Dio sneaking a victory, is if he somehow got Joseph emotional by killing Cesar or Lisa Lisa first, only to jump him while he's in turmoil... Problem is- killing those two? That takes a Pillar Man. Dio's getting clapped by either of them, too.

There’s also the fact that Hamon Techniques had advanced significantly after Johnathan dies, specifically using objects to channel Hamon into (clackers and bubbles for example). Also Dio's ice powers come from flash freezing the liquids in his opponent's body, and that requires him to grab and HOLD his opponent. Plus Dio's “Stingy Ripper Eyes” aren’t lasers, they are extremely high pressure ferrofluid jets that have the power to not only reach the cloud layer, but open it up (you are looking at power it is in the the kilotons of TNT)

Here's the thing with Joseph vs Esidisi and Wamuu: they were IMMUNE to normal Hamon because their skin blocked it. Then Joseph was able to Hamon them anyway. Joseph's Hamon against Dio would likely kill him a LOT faster than Jonathan's Hamon. Also, Joseph has tools for long ranged attack other than the clacker volley: his clothing. We know he takes that into account from using his headband against Wamuu, and given all he's done with Hamon, I think he could tear up his shirt, harden and flatten the pieces, and use them as Hamon-charged shurikens. Also, he can dodge eye lasers, so at a distance, he has the advantage. Now we look at close range. He has to counter Dio's freeze attack. The problem is that Dio has to touch him for this. Dio touching Joseph is game over because of his Hamon, which is superior to Jonathan's. But let's say that's not enough. An interesting point to make is that Joseph is smarter than me. If I can come up with a strong strategy, Joseph would definitely consider that strategy and possibly have a better one. That said, once he's removed his shirt, he has another item of clothing to use: shoes. We know he can use Hamon with his feet at a very high level, so the move to use is kicking. He kicks Dio, Dio freezes, he uses finely controlled Hamon to get his foot out of the shoe immediately (since it's freezing, it's almost certainly sticking to Dio, so he can take his foot out before the ice penetrates the shoe), and Dio burns from Hamon that he packed into his shoe. So then he does the same thing with his other foot, and then he uses his socks-and Dio's done. No way can Dio take four solid Hamon hits from the dude who wrecked the Pillar Men. But what if Dio comes up with a strategy? Well, he won't be at Joseph's level. Dio relies on his powers, while Joseph is all about strategy. Dio will think he's outclassing Joseph until he realizes the powers he counted on were strategized around, at which point it's too late. However, part 3 Dio stomps Part 2 Joseph. The World is too much.

as fun as Jojo Vs matches are, equal footing isn't really how jojo fights work at all. like Part 3 the heroes flat out mention how unusual it is for their enemy to openly come at them without trickery after all

I do feel like it's sort of comparable to Joseph vs Eisidisi, where he had practically no preparation to fight a pillar man - all he had was his clackers, and those still didn't do much, but he still won that battle. The difference is that Dio's vampiric powers may not technically be as "strong" as a Pillar Man's, but they are much more variable - with the freezing power, the stingy-eyes, and given the fact that joseph had to use his setting of the spiky ground to weave a web with his scarf to defeat Eisidisi, I think Dio would narrowly win, as it's unlikely that Joseph would be fighting in a similar setting. I think if they both fought in a completely neutral setting, call it a sort of "Smash bros final destination," any setting where neither of them are entirely familiar with their surroundings right off the bat, I think Dio wins.

Joseph's examinations on anyone will win, he will talk and examine down to sub atomic level until they fall asleep easy

I could see Joseph stalling long enough for Dio to be exposed to the sun and just have a natural vampire death or that Joseph just dismantles Dio's base from afar during the morning.
