Kamikaze Collection is a Japanese car detailing products company that was started in 2013 by owner Kai Morita. They develop hand made, bespoke, high-end boutique car care products. They are mostly known for their awesome range of glass coatings (ceramic coatings) such as Miyabi Coat and ISM Coat.
Application and removal of Kamikaze Collection glass coatings is simple. Apply one panel at a time, in straight lines (do not use cross a cross hatch pattern to insure you get a level application). Let the coating dry until you see a rainbow haze and then buff off using circular motions and a soft microfiber towel. Make sure to use the coating within a month of opening the bottle.

Full disclosure: I was not paid for this review, but the company did send me the products for free.. However, I made sure that the opinions expressed in my video are my own and the company had no influence on my content.

It might sound stupid, but their physical packaging are so aesthetically good looking that it makes me want to buy them just based off of that. I'm a sucker for shiny things :P Great Review BTW

Hehehe yup! They have some of the best looking packaging in the business. It shows they are a boutique style company with hand made products and you feel it when you're holding their bottles in your hands. Even their microfiber towels are top quality, remind me of the amazing The Rag Company Eagle Edgeless which are super high grade. Thanks for watching!

Hey I don't get the concept that some people have that the aesthetics of detailing products is not important. If I buy a 70k dollar luxary car it's because the look and feel of a car is important to me. Why should that logic not extend to what I use to maintain that car? I want the whole look and feel and user experience of everything associated with my car to be pleasing to me. So I really appreciate a well packaged, nice smelling product with a cool color. Does the bottle, color and smell add anything to the efficacy of that product? Probably not. But it makes me want to use it more so maybe it does.

Thanks for your video Pan, it makes people like me, a newbie in the detailing world much easier to understand. The issue I have at the moment with the industry is how many brands are out their and how confusing it can be, so looking forward to selecting one or two brands that I can use on my car from your upcoming top 3 review in each section.

Love the Kamikaze line. For my aesthetic preferences, maintenance habits and durability needs (winter), nothing has come close. The self cleaning properties of the coatings are simply unmatched. Spent last winter trying to find something that would surpass the Miyabi x 2, ISM x 1, Infinity Wax, Overcoat combo; tried Cquartz Classic, Gyeon Prime, Gyeon Mohs, Gtechniq CSL, Pearl Nano, The Gloss Shop Ceramic, Wofgang Uber Ceramic, McKees Paint Coating and 22ple HPC and found none that approached the performance of the Kamikaze offerings. The Stance Rim Coat is an excellent wheel coating, much easier to apply than others and makes cleaning wheels a spray and wipe proposition. The Beast backing plate is just a phenomenal addition to a Rupes polisher (have it on my LHR 15 Mk 2); smooth as glass. The only less-than-stellar product in the line I tried was the Intenso Window Coating; sheets and sheds water like a beast but a little lacking in dry conditions when bug strikes leave some faint but pretty persistent marks on the windshield. Also got the opportunity to meet Kai at the open house of the U.S. distributor last summer, his enthusiasm for the product line and care car in general is infectious. Great stuff...if I could have only 1 product to keep my paint nice and easily self cleaning, Overcoat would fit the bill as a booster or a stand-alone product. The stuff just plain works!

I used to be the installer of Kamikaze competitors. And I will admit from I got from the test on my personal daily driven car. ISM last longer and didn't show any crack on body lines. Unlike other coatings that anyone can easily notice when the hydrophobic behavior starts to diminish on the body lines after some months. And forget Miyabi, use any siloxane coatings with similar solvent as base coat, and topped it with ISM. There's no difference in durability.

Really nice review Pan, I have been interested in Kamikaze for a while now. What is the scratch resistance like on Miyabi Coat?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I don't really look at scratch resistance as my cars are always in pristine condition. Plus, keep in mind that glass coatings aren't really designed to give scratch resistance (although many think they do magical things on that side). Yes they are 2-3 times harder than the average clear coat, but the goal of a coating is to offer high gloss, water beading and sheeting properties, self-cleaning properties meaning the car is easier to clean, UV protection, etc. How did you discover my channel?

@PanTheOrganizer

They are both the same, just different way of saying things. Ceramic, or SiO2, is silicon dioxide, a component needed to make glass. Hence why they're nicknamed glass coatings.

Pan, I recently bought the Kamikaze Collection Zipang coating and quite frankly I've been kind of fearful to apply it. I just took delivery of a new fully loaded Red Mist Corvette Z06 with the Z07 performance package and have pulled out all the stops with all the detail products, much of which are upon your recommendation. I avidly watch almost all of your videos for guidance in choosing the right products and how to apply them. With this video being six years old and with Kamikaze continually improving their products, would it be possible you will do an update video on the Kamikaze Collection including the Zipang coating? The paint on my new Z06 appears to be in exceptional condition, so I'm not sure about going through the paint correction procedure. I've already had the front of the car paint protected with PPF back to the doors and lower rockers, so any paint correction in those areas won't be necessary from what I understand. Due to my lack of experience, I find myself reluctant with going ahead and applying the Zipang in fear of messing something up. There are no professional detail shops in my area that offer any of the Kamikaze products, so I'm not real sure about being able to hire a professional to do everything that needs to be done....

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 11 ай бұрын
Thanks. But you would not stack all those coatings, that's not how it works. You would be running into issues. I would pick one, or perhaps one combo of two that are chemically compatible and made to be layered, and stick to that. I would highly recommend that you write to the company and see what best combo they would recommend, as they have done several revisions of their products and things can change. Go straight to the source. Zipang for example, can be used as a topper and gloss enhancer over ISM or Miyabi. When using MIYABI COAT as a base layer and ISM COAT as a top layer, allow an interval of about 2 hours.

Hey great vid , but can u tell me what will happen if we apply this or any coating products to the body of the car that has paint protection film on it ?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 7 жыл бұрын
You can apply coatings on PPFs with no issues. Paint Protection Film (PPF) (also known as Clear Bra) is simply meant to provide protection from impacts from rock chips on the front end of your car or on the lower rocker panels and rear quarters. You apply a ceramic coating on top of PPF in order to create a hydrophobic surface that is easier to clean and maintain. This way you still get the impact protection from the film, while also receiving the easy maintenance and environmental protection that comes with a coating. I hope this answers your question!

Hello Pan, very good video as usual. I had a quick one, if i have Jescar/Collinite combo on my car and no need for compounding or polishing. How do i remove the Jescar/collinite combo to make sure to remove bonded wax before applying ceramic or glass coating?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 6 жыл бұрын
You first start with a strip wash. A soap with pH 10 or higher like Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash. Paint decontamination if needed. You polish your paint with a DA polisher and something like Meguiar’s M205 or polish of your choice. IPA wipe to remove polishing oils. Then you apply your coating.

You can use silica spray sealants as stand alone products or as top coats on ceramic coatings. Silica spray sealants typically last 3 months so the Jescar/Collinite combo will last 6-8 months. But the ultimate protection is still a ceramic coating.

Awesome, nice to see fellow Canadians on my channel! :). Yes Esoteric Car Care is one of the only distributors of Kamikaze that I know of in North America. What I like doing is ordering from the US and shipping to a holding facility called Freeport Forwarding near the NY/Canada border. You have your items shipped there (so you save a ton on shipping) and go pick them up and declare them upon entering Canada. So of course you have to pay duties and taxes, but depending on the size of your order it's really not that bad. :) Where do you live in Canada?

Hi Pan, I just bought the Miyabi and overcoat but I can't find any info as to the "absolute" minimum time for curing after applying Miyabi. I hear a lot of people saying 24 hrs but after experience with Tac Systems, CQuartz it seems that 24 hrs is sometimes just a sure proof way to get beginners not spraying their car with water to check beading ;) ....Any advice here. Just asking as its now getting into Autumn weather in Helsinki and dew forms quite easily at night and I dont have a garage so i am wondering if 12 hrs will be enough. Any tips suggestions are gladly accepted.

+Ivan S Hi Ivan. My brand review mini series isn't meant for comparisons as its main goal is to make my viewers discover car detailing products they may not know and also understand what each product us and what it does in a given lineup. Information and education. I don't really discuss prices as they can fluctuate over time, plus, as my videos have an international audience, it gets too complicated to factor in exchange rates and foreign prices, etc. That's one reason I put the links to the products in the description, for different countries, so viewers can easily access the most up to date prices and get a ballpark figure about what to expect. Now with that being said, I have a mega special video coming soon, kind of like an awards show, where I'll name the top 3 products of each category according to my own opinion and experience (best wax, best coating, best tire dressing, best APC, best leather products, etc). So stay tuned! Lots of surprises in that video too! I hope I've answered your points. I put lots of time and effort to produce my videos so I try and do my best at making sure I make quality videos.

I had Cquartz classic and UK layered on my BLACK Maserati Granturismo Sport and only washed it that way because of it's simplicity and NO water spots and LOVED it. I still always recommend a traditional wash with water when possible. But for those with limited or no access to water, the second best thing is a rinseless wash and one of the best rinseless washes is ONR. I did a tutorial on rinseless washes here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIHCc41jn791pLs

@PanTheOrganizer

CQuartz trumps McKee's by far. But Kamikaze are more of a boutique type product. They're not stored on shelves for long. They are made to order and shipped out at that moment. ISM Coat and Miyabi Coat glass coatings also have a longer durability than the coatings you mentioned (up to 36 months with ISM Coat). So it's not a question of better, but different. They are super easy to apply and remove and have quick drying times. I like to propose different alternatives to my viewers as I'm not sold to only one brand. I like all the brands that make quality products. ;). Have used Cquartz and McKees previously; at the consumer-grade level, Kamikaze is, for me, unmatched. Everyone has different requirements, though. I'm big on durability, self cleaning and, or course, appearance. The ability to alter the cars appearance through the use of the various products kinda lets ya tailor-make your finish. Hard Candy Gloss, stop after Miyabi. Warm, deeper glow, add ISM (especially cool on metallics). Infinity wax will lend a 'relaxed high gloss' with a bit of molten glass look, especially to body panel transitions. Top it all with Overcoat for incredible hydrophobic behavior and self-cleaning abilities. Yeah, I'm a fan...and it only took me trying 10 different coatings to figure it out. Doh!
