The Kanban system has been used with many Project Managers in the Software Development Sector however there is a much broader use for this system as a productivity tool for both home and office.
In this Tutorial, I'll show you how to build a simple and easy to use Kanban Board that you can start using on your projects at home or at the office that will hopefully change your life!
Kanban is a simple and effective project management tool that everyone can use. All you need to build a Kanban Board are: masking tape, Post-it Notes, Sharpie Markers and lots of ideas!
👉 Some of my favourite Post-it Notes for Kanban Boards:
Colorful Post-it Note Collection (3x3 Miami) - amzn.to/3q6Ss11
Assorted Post-it Flags - amzn.to/3RASFoU
3M Expressions Masking Tape (to create Kanban Border) - amzn.to/3qa8p6I

Interesting video. I'm going to start investigating and applying different productivity techniques to enhance my academic and personal life tasks performance, so I'm currently gathering information on the personal Kanban board. It seems super simplistic and fun to use, with the layout and coloring thing... I'll let you know how this progressed in a couple of weeks. P.S. to everyone reading this, remember it's not always about the method but mainly the dedication, willpower and mental sanity. Good sleep, selective input of external information, a nutritious diet, physical exercise and mental recharging are also huge contributors in goal achieving. !!! I just spent my first week working with that. I think you probably need some extra time to figure things out because a week is just a week, a lot of random things can happen but still, since I'm speed checking methods of efficiency I only had a week to practice. Scroll for my comments on this!! Due to the fact that I'm currently working on BIG university projects, I didn't manage to complete anything in a time span of a week. they all tended to gather at the 'DOING' list because I had to work on them all simultaneously in order not to be left behind on anything. I guess this isn't how it's supposed to work. The conclusions I've drawn are that maybe this method would be more suitable for students at school or ppl who deal with smaller projects, of unequal importance and emergency; because right now we're getting close to winter exams, so it's not really an option, we have to get ready for everything, I couldn't neglect any of my goals. I am a little bit skeptical about the efficiency of the method for me, since I would also like it to be supported by some time-efficiency theory or tip, since I'm struggling with multiple deadlines these days. I guess, it works really great with some ppl but, as I said, it wasn't really the method for me, for the particular time period.

for in progress, maybe one regular sized sticky notes with a few other small ones as branches. i guess if you used a white board as the background, you could even write in the tiny tasks.
@EdTchoi
@EdTchoi 3 жыл бұрын
Lechsi Z yes, excellent idea on using smaller notes to denote branches of a task. Also, setting up a Kanban board on a whiteboard can be super useful, especially with the Post-it Flex Write Dry Erase surface as you can use permanent markers on it (perfect for creating gridlines). Here’s a video I recently did on the Flex Write and you’ll see what I mean - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIGxi6uGotesoKs Thanks for watching and your suggestion!

Great content. Researching how I can incorporate Kanban into my office and home life. How detailed do you see the columns getting? It seems like you would need to “In Progress” step to be more granular to really see where the project is at. How did you see this differently than say a GANTT chart? Thanks
@EdTchoi
@EdTchoi 4 жыл бұрын
John Hayes generally I create tasks that are broad in nature and not overly detailed. For example, if I were to organize my office, I would gave a task that would say “organize desk” rather than being granular and identifying all the items that need to be organized. Having said that, if the take is too broad and there are many moving pieces, you may probably create a separate Kanban board for that task. Gantt charts differ in that they typically have concrete timelines and identify critical paths. They are also, in my opinion, more difficult to manage as I find the Kanban board to be more simple and effective for short term projects. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video!

What rules do you give yourself in the in progress section. Iet's say you have 3 things in that section do you have to work on at least one of them that day?
@EdTchoi
@EdTchoi 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! In my opinion, the rules for the individual tasks should be governed by the individual as long as they know that they have to complete the task within the given timeline. If the individual needs guidance, than I would rank the importance of the tasks with a flag (red, yellow, green) so that they know which tasks to tackle first. Let me know if that makes sense. Thanks!
