Kangaroos Everywhere - Marvellous or Menace?

I'm shooting just in the northern suburbs of Perth here and look how many kangaroos are here. They certainly look cute.

Great video with the drone John. We live in a rural area near Seymour and I think there is room for them and us. I am an ex farmer but I feel very sad seeing all the dead ones on the road with probably new urban people tearing along in the early morning and cleaning them up. They suffer terrible deaths . It was peaceful watching them in their natural surroundings

Whenever I see them, I always think of the movie "Crocodile Dundee" and that scene where the kangaroo picks up the rifle and shoots back! First time I saw that I must of laughed for an hour!

Great video as usual Johnno. They maybe on our Coat Of Arms, but they have become a serial PEST in rural and now urban areas of Australia. With there numbers increasing every year, we seriously need to look at some sort of plan to reduce these numbers. I understand people will have a go at me, but if you have seen what a ROO can do when it stands on its tail and strikes with its hind legs, its not pretty and people will get hurt. Fix the problem before it gets any worse.

They're beautiful creatures. I have plenty living on my property in Western Victoria. When it comes to driving in my opinion, by far the worst area for large numbers of roos on or near the road is from Barcaldine to Longreach in Outback Queensleand.

Hello Johno We have the same problem with roos here. It was ok when they where culled and the land was cropping. But now the land is in trees and Culling has stopped . In some areas there can be a hundred roos to the acre

We drove from Melbourne to Canberra recently, and counted about 80 roadkill roos, mainly along the Hume Hwy... With 3 or 4 good seasons, and lots of grass to eat, kangaroos have breed up and are very numerous... And they haven't evolved yet, to dodge trucks and cars and the most dangerous vehicle to run into a kangaroo at 110kl per hour would have to be, a motorbike 😮

Great video of these interesting critters. As a Rotary International student from New Mexico I soon learned why there are ROO Bars on many vehicles. They were a real pest to stockmen and farmers too in NSW. They are fun to watch but dangerous to drivers. Thanks and stay well.

I have spent the past 5 years travelling around this country of ours and the biggest surprise for me was how few Kangaroos I actually saw. I saw literally Dozens of Emus and plenty of other wildlife but I did not at any stage see the Mobs of Kangaroos that I would have expected too see. No doubt they are out there But I have yet to see them.

Sadly I have seen far too many of our native animals up close and personal; over my 50 years of driving in this country, they are beautiful but they have cost me and my fellow drivers millions and millions of $ in accident repairs over that time. If only they had better road sense 😬

To the non Australian or those who don’t travel the outback they are cute, however for those who do travel they can be a total disaster and cause severe damage and even death in an accident. The kangaroo population in Australia is out of control and they are now invading suburbia and causing real damage to areas and to vehicles that often end with a severe accident. Quite often a driver will automatically swerve to avoid them and forget about the oncoming vehicle. They do immense damage to farmland fences and crops.

Just humping around a bid. Eating. Enjoy nature as there play ground. No rushing. No biils to work for and need to pay. Caring around the baby's a litle. What else they do. Great examples of Darwinism. Amazing what you get when you segregate a land mass for millennia. For a large part of their existence they didn't have to put up with humans roaring around in ICE vehicles. The odd throwing object from the natives but largely live as you please. I often wake up to a small group grazing outside my window. And feel no compulsion to grab a gun and shoot them. One of nature's most remarkable creations. Unfortunately more modern human intervention has upset the balance. And now part of that interaction is finding them on our roads. Give the roos another few thousand years and they might work out how to avoid us. In the short term Homosapiens will continue to kill them in great numbers. Like we do with everything else. Including our own kind. So in my opinion the answer to your question is. Kangaroo marvel. Human menace.
