@guesswho51225 жыл бұрын
It's not "Hiroshima" but "Iwo Jima". As to your actual question, I cannot help, though. That is 'tough guy lingo', I presume. - After having watched that scene now I think that this simply is to say that a war hero like him can be trusted: "I'd believe him" , "I'd buy his story" = his version of what really happened. - While still watching, I remembered what the femme fatale and her accomplice in the climactic final scene of Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity (1944) said to each other. She had tried to explain what and why she did it but he curtly answered: "Sorry baby, I'm not buying." She: "I'm not asking you to buy, just hold me close."

@@guesswho5122 Thanks for this reply. Yeah bozo move on the Iwo Jima part.... Thanks again. I love double indemnity, nothing like Barbara....
@guesswho51225 жыл бұрын
@Fee Bird "I love double indemnity, nothing like Barbara" Oh yeah, Barbara and her golden anklet chain ... But she could be funny, too, e.g. as Sugarpuss in Ball of Fire (with Cooper etc.). As to Indemnity, one of my absolute classic film noir favorites: With director Billy Wilder, screenwriters Wilder and Raymond Chandler!, the underlying novel by James M. Cain plus Stanwyck, MacMurray and Robinson nothing could go wrong.
@fbirdy5 жыл бұрын
@@guesswho5122 is double indemnity considered a film noir?
@sodoffbaldrick30384 жыл бұрын
If you've ever heard the expression, "I don't buy it", when you think someone's telling a lie, this is basically saying the opposite. Joe's friend believes in his innocence, and has asked his brother to help him. His brother Rick is skeptical at best until he meets him. He's obviously heard his brother tell how Joe risked his life to save him when they were on Iwo Jima, and has decided after meeting Joe that he believes in him too.
