That discipline is called Chi Sao (sticky hands) and is a training discipline within Wing Chun that Bruce Lee studied in China with Ip Man, and is 75% of Jet Kune do. Kimura, despite coming from karate, had already studied some Chi Sao because he defends himself quite well.

What really set him apart was that he didn’t simply study under a master and climb the ranks learning one art. He fought in the streets as he was learning on his own first. This is totally false! Taky Kimura was a student of Bruce Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu as well as a variation of Wing Chun. Taky had a bit of judo experience before meeting Bruce and was NEVER a karate practitioner, let alone a grandmaster. The video footage here is from a demonstration they performed at the tournament. Notice that both Lee and Kimura are both performing chi-sao from Wing Chun. This doesn't take away from the fact that Bruce Lee was an amazing martial artist.

@@elvisrealking 'no style' meant he really didn't know any style, and then preached a combination of styles. Which he didn't know. And mixing styles has actually been done for thousands of years before him, and in his time by others. He just hilariously didn't know that, nor about the mixed martial artists of his day, and the styles that were being practiced in his day and before that that are literally mixed martial arts. You thinking a noob saying nonsense things is genius only proves you're a noob that believes in nonsense. Lee's only credit is that he popularised martial arts to the masses a little faster than it was already happening. That being said he was very far from the best promotor of it because of what I just told you. If he had been interested in really becoming a great martial artist instead of a narcissist, he would have gone through the motions of actually attaining a decent level in at least 1 full contact martial art. Instead he just stuck to some basic techniques and no experience and claimed he was a great fighter just because he made martial arts movies (with unrealistic choreography). Mike Tyson didn't know Bruce Lee, and it's insane to even compare the two on any level. MikeTyson is arguably one of the greatest heavyweight fighters ever. Lee was a moviemaker and a 5'5, 135 pound backyard martial artist. All this does is expose your delusion and complete ignorance.

This is such a great & tremendous honor to both Bruce & Kimura….the nice things that he said about Bruce is amazing. And then Bruce actually tries it blind, that’s hilarious man. This is still two Schools working together in our Eternal Universal Defense too, always, not contention nor competitiveness between Schools. Bruce’s technique here shows that he is totally familiar with the human body, even if he is blind..he can see his opponent’s body in his mind, & sense his position even with no visual sight. This is training for combat with a human, but Master Bruce is also likewise trained well for all types of life forms too, able to sense their position & see them in his mind, enough to successfully defend, always. Many Schools if not all Schools of martial arts train for the potential of having to enter combat blind, & with various types of sensory & other physical challenges to face..& overcome, always. Lots of love & respect shown here, good job!❤️🌈📀🔒🔐

There are many top martial artists who can defeat Brue Lee easily, if he is blind folded. Even Bruce Lee will not agree to do such a fight.

This video is misrepresenting what happened in this video. They were merely demonstrating a kung fu trapping exercise, yes with a blindfold, but it was not a challenge or even a fight. Bruce Lee wouldn't have been able to stop people beating him up wearing a blindfold if they really wanted to, this was a demo exercise of a specific wrist-contact technique from Wing Chun. You aren't hitting each other and you're always touching, so you can feel the opponent's movements. My old Ju Jitsu club used to occasionally do some blindfolded demos where nobody was actually just randomly hitting you but grabbing and things like that. We weren't superhuman or even black belts. Bruce Lee was not "superhuman", he was just a really good and creative martial artist who people saw as untouchable because he was the star of heroic kung fu movies. Social media is an endless steaming pile of utter bull and you're all just believing whatever people tell you. It's deeply concerning.

@@som1980he was just an enthusiast. Didn't have any high level training in anything and had tons of misconceptions. Didn't understand real life fight dynamics. Confused point score tournaments with actual combat. Thought fencing position and lunges and strong side front was a good basics. Thought Chi Sao was realistic fighting. Thought 2ft was equal to 1inch. Thought missing someone by a foot counted as a hit. Thought sucker eyepokes were an actual technique. Thought he could mix styles in which he has zero training or insight. Had sloppy punch technique and no actual defence. Thought 2 finger push ups were somehow evidence of fighting prowess. Thought he could easily beat Mohammad Ali. Thought that the person who knew more techniques would always be the better fighter, and then kept contradicting himself on that from time to time, still getting it wrong somehow. Had lots of meaningless quotes about fighting (''be water'' '' fear only the man who practiced 1 kick 1000 times'' etc) I could go on for hours. He was not a martial arts genius in any way. He was an enthusiast, a cocky narcissist, had basic knowledge and a few fast kicks. He was a tiny man who cheated on his wife and carried a handgun at all times. But he milked his self-created image like a pro and was a genius at marketing and selfpromotion.

Blindfolds are for the ones who are feeling the energy and hearing the opponent, not for seeing. This will give them the edge over people who rely on seeing instead of feeling the energy of their opponent.

chi sao - especially as taught by Bruce - relies on sensitivity in the arms - a fighter doesn't want to rely on his eyes which will slow him down - so students will often close their eyes when practicing chi sao - in order to tune into the sensations

We should take notice that a grandmaster loved martial arts so much, he quickly saw the superiority of another system over the one he was decorated in for decades and became the student of a younger martial artist in order to continue learning. That's humility.

This is a pleasant change of tone. The Japanese are a very proud group yet here is a Grandmaster, humbling himself. Bruce was like, “let’s see if that’s true.” And then the Grandmaster lost and was willing to be a student again. It’s like everyone was just having fun and no hard feelings throughout. Nice vid.

All these guys could never beat Bruce Lee because he was gifted, number 1, his training was intensive number 2 and wing chun was about knowing how to use it professionally number 3, plus practice of other martial arts through reading there principles number 4 ,he would continued to grow by his principles accept what is useful to you as an individual and reject what is not, he was a true master, a real master ,but l still don't think he could beat yip man, yip man was just to good from the books l have read about him from his son, yip chun, l hope this message will serve as an inspiration to others who want to follow this path of improving and growing in the martial arts, good luck
