The judge's assistant is named 'Karena Griffiths' so Billy likely misspoke there. Third generation US service member here, USAF. That West Point tie is not “stolen valor.” Military colleges, like Annapolis, West Point, or the AF Academy, sell tons of merchandise, just like any other collegiate institution. Billy is just trying to score any sort of brown nosing points with the judge by showing false support for the judge’s personal affiliation for that school. Stolen valor only comes into play when the only discernible reason for the service related comment or projection is to make those around them think they themselves serve(d) in the military. As much as I hate Billy, he wasn’t guilty of this.

Mitchel is going for the record in the 100% category in frivolous lawsuits. This is one of the most difficult levels where you have to convince a judge to not dismiss a case that he legally must dismiss. He tried the sucking up strats, the blaming the defendant strats, and even the "I know a celebrity" glitch. But he still failed. That's why there are so few that go for the record in this category.

Hey Karl, I’m mildly familiar with American military culture. If his son attended West Point, billy can absolutely wear that tie. I agree with your assessment that it’s not okay to bring it up in this context, however. The tie is the kind of thing you might wear to an important event hoping to be asked about it so you can brag about your child for a few minutes. To mention West Point but not his son, without being prompted, I think whether it’s conscious or not he’s trying to lie by omission to the judge here. Objectively I give him benefit of the doubt, subjectively I think we all know better. Cheers from America, love these!

Being a lawyer myself, I found this especially amusing. Mitchel's performance was laughable. The judge on the other hand - highly professional in every way. If I can offer any "words of wisdom" to you Karl, it's this: judges are not only trained in law. Judges also must know how to see through bullshit of the parties involved in the case. This is their job too. If this is all Mitchel can muster, your own case should be dismissed with ease as well. We're with you, good sir!

I think anyone with any semblance of some psychological knowledge of manipulation could see through Billy's bull shit, let alone people like judges or lawyers who have to see though it on the daily. It's fine to wear signs that support the military as long as you don't claim (for example) you were a bad ass Navy Seal with two silver stars and a purple heart, but now have PTSD and need money to pay the rent. as the judge said, "it is your responsibility as the plaintiff to keep the case active"

Exactly!! He filed the lawsuit like 16 months ago, what did he expect to happen?

I thought that was hilarious. "They let this happen." in regards to the lawsuit as if it's the defendant's duty to pursue all legal avenues and remedies, to do all the legal legwork in a case where... they're the ones being sued. Problem is this. When you make a claim, it is YOUR responsibility to prove that claim. It's not the responsibility of those that you're telling your claim to do all the work for you. That's just not how it works.

Disclaimer: Not defending him; just playing a bit of devil's advocate. I honestly think he could have gotten away with the lies had he not procrastinated, but doing nothing until the deadline passed is entirely his fault. What he could have done with the extension... who knows? After looking into his lawsuits' court files it's worth noting he frequently displays confirmation bias, so he likely would have found some way to make suing someone twice seem legal, even if what he'd use doesn't actually work that way.

@@seretkeena yeah my pa and sis are lawyers and some companies/attorneys will go to huge lengths to be as hard to find as possible. One of his cases he kept trying to find a good address, and the other lawyer basically taunted him whenever his summons was a miss. Refusing to help, but still communicating lol. Finally cornered them at the right place and they finally acknowledged the lawsuit. But it's absolutely part of the game and Billy got deservedly rekt
