It's in the lawyers best interest to keep it dragging out. Especially if they are filing the suit. You drain the money as much as possible to try and force a settlement. Defense tries to prevent that. So I'm almost certain Billy's lawyers are gonna be about the same cost if not more by the end.

I don't know if it's true in Australia, but the catch in the US is that, if a case is proven to be frivolous, the judge would likely award legal fees to the defendant. If that happened here then Billy would suddenly be legally required to cover all of Karl's legal fees for this case, past and current, on top of his own expenses and on top of any other damages the judge may or may not award. Frivolous lawsuits can backfire spectacularly thanks to that.

I don't know about you, but a quarter million dollar loss is not nothing...

Even then, at about 2.5 videos per month average it will still cost almost a whole years earnings so it’s not beyond reason that he would need assistance with the lawsuit. One thing I’d like to know is how collecting lawyer fees for a civil case would work as the rules in Australia and the United States are very different.

Im canadian, so american law is out of my depth, but a lot of the times, it just comes out to who can pay for better representation. The industry of lawyers as a whole was deliberately changed so lawyers could charge more. I was at the NERG convention and was at the panel, I didn’t know as much as I know now but knew enough to check that no money for ticket sales would go to Billy (a few people had already asked about this). I was sat behind the man in the audience he kept pointing to when making his points, for some reason he picked him out, must have been weird for that guy! Bless him Walter fell asleep a couple of times (you can see him nod off at the beginning of the footage and looks to be asleep when you see him at the end, he must have heard all this stuff so many times!) and the hostess was most likely primed to a degree, she mentioned having met him the night before, but she came across so nervous and uncomfortable throughout that I felt a bit sorry for her. She also seemed to be from a pro-wrestling background, she mentioned a couple of terms and said something like ‘in our world we would call that a sell’ or something to that effect I can’t remember exactly. It’s not in the video but at some point he started reading out personal messages he received from someone apologising to him and being wrong about him? Can’t remember who it was exactly but just felt like a really weird thing to do, like reading them out word for word. Overall I would say the feeling I got was Billy taking the opportunity to try and get some people who aren’t in-the-know onto his side, how many people bought it I can’t say but I took it all with a pinch of salt, so much I had to go straight to the shop to buy more! I would say the actual convention was really good with lots of games to check out and play if you’re in the area when it’s next on.

The way legal scams work is they make it impossible to fight the case. If you don't have 300k to spend, you have to settle. If the normal person tries to fight it in court, they can draw out the proceedings to make your own lawyers bankrupt you, and then you still have to settle to get out of the case. Once they admit they were wrong, they have no future defense, so they have to remain quiet about it, and pay their way out.

Thing is, the guy isn't even a good liar. He says things that are incredibly easy to disprove, as Karl illustrates time and time again. A skilled liar wouldn't make such mistakes, Billy is simply a charismatic person who knows how to project confidence. I personally know a person who is indeed a really good liar, he's so good he made me second guess myself even though I knew the truth. He also did a livestream at a local arcade bar and I know a staff member there who said that also resulted in complaints and people saying they wouldn't be coming back in. If he's costing these people money, especially in today's economy, I doubt he'll be invited back 😊

I won't lie, I was tempted to go simply so I could see the shenanigans unfold, but there was another event in Newcastle going on later on in the year that I was more interested in, so I figured I'd not bother.
