He probably just did a normal run, waited at the end until the time was around the time he wanted to get plus 10 minutes, then just edited out the 1 in the 17. A friend of mine who also watches these kinds of videos pointed something out to me about those fake reactions that I can't help but think about every time I see them now: "It's the kind of reaction someone who's never set and reached a deeply personal or arduous goal would make. They try to act flippant or cool because they don't understand what the gravity and importance of such an achievement actually feels like. That or they're just really cringey bad actors, point stands either way". Watching this kid's reactions definitely reminds me of just that.
@spongecakes198611 күн бұрын
I'm kinda weary of judging people by reactions or expressions of emotions. As an autistic person who's also dealt with depression for years, I've definitely had people misread my reactions or facial expressions to things. Sometimes I just kinda feel nothing when I should feel something cause of the depression, and sometimes my reactions or facial expressions aren't "correct" because of the autism. That being said, I do totally understand what your friend meant. It's also easy to say in retrospect that they were acting suspicious when you already know they cheated.

Hearing Karl describe how the cheater has to do all the acting when they're playing on camera really brought something home to me: in that moment when the cheater "wins," they have to _pretend_ to feel the incredible feeling of victory and accomplishment that they wish they could really have. They have to act it out for an audience while dying inside, and the only way that they can survive the ordeal is to truly _convince_ the audience that they are happy, in ways that the audience can't even understand. The moment of fake victory is probably the most miserable, stressful moment of a cheater's life, when it's supposed to be the most liberating. What a nightmare.

Most cheaters cheat at games they think they are good enough to get high scores at anyway.(Ridiculous logic but people are silly.) Most cheaters feel justified in what they do as a result. There’s the infamous speed run done in person by Cody Miller, who had multiple cheated world records at Halo at the time. When he showed up to do it in person, he bombed so bad that they made a new rule at the event he played at that speedruns that are going embarrassingly badly can be canceled by the event staff. It is worth looking up his Halo speedrun to see a cheater be completely publicly exposed in the most embarrassing way possible, lol.

To be fair, "two of the most popular custom maps" doesn't mean they were actually speedrun by hundreds of players. Custom Maps is a niche category in Jump King. If the run was on the main leaderboard (of which I'm not a moderator) it would have been caught a lot earlier (based on Seastar's messages on the discord server from around that time he cheated the runs, it was his next goal to "get a world record" on one of the vanilla maps, Ghost of the Babe, but he probably realized that it wouldn't work). I was the one who verified the runs in the first place and, since the community and other moderators view the thing that I brought this up to light as "redeeming myself", I'm still a moderator of the custom maps leaderboard (you can say they gave me a second chance). I learned my lesson and I will be much more careful from now on! I recommend you to try Jump King yourself if you haven't yet, it's a great game and the community is very wholesome! EDIT: Thanks for all the kind words (and for the satirical negative comments too)! P.S. thanks for the great, as always, video Karl! ❤
