Anyone know why so many weightlifters squat with their knees caving in so much? Seems bad for the knees and is also not optimal technique
@kaanburuklar866510 ай бұрын
Highbar squats put more pressure on the quads compared to lowbar squats, it's something that happens naturaly when they exsessively push their knees forward to keep a vertical torso as much as possible. Especially athletes with long legs tend cave their knees more.
@FrancescoCorato-wd6ei10 ай бұрын
Somewhere I Heard and interview of some chinese coach saying that in squat they put a lot of focus on mantaining the back angle constant and almost no focus on where the knees goes,, whether they are caving or not... Maybe it's something common for a lot of wl coach
@NONO-hz4vo10 ай бұрын
Kaan and Francesco both offer good insight here. The back angle is a lot more important for an athlete whose main concern is the Olympic lifts. Olympic lifters also have a lot more narrow stance compared to a power lifting squat which especially when coupled with long legs is going to lead to some inward drive on the knees. They are not squatting to get the highest squat numbers, the exercise is to develop the specific muscles that will help them maintain a strong position in both lifts. As for their knees they are some pretty strong athletes with great recovery aids. The strength of their joints is plenty for those forces and if not it will only be a problem in 10 years when their careers are over.
@Robin2420410 ай бұрын
Well, now I know. Thanks for the information
@FrancescoCorato-wd6ei10 ай бұрын
@@NONO-hz4vo Great point! Then i add that this athletes have top mobility too so i highly doubdt that the caving would be a problema for them at all... There are some reception however for example nino pizzolato seems to have a very fixed knee squat where knees stay on their Place during all the lift despite he has long legs(if i Remember well😉)... Surely depends also on althletes caractheristics like quads/glutes/back strength ratio
