I'd love to come back for the 4-5 months a year I used to spend in Thailand. It's very sad to see Phuket like that. I'm not sure any of those programs will attract anyone. It's just too restrictive. I also doubt they'll be opening up in 2021. It pains me but I'm looking at other places to settle. I'm afraid many people are doing the same. You're lucky to be there and it's great that you support the local businesses like that. Good man

We last visited in 2015 so it was very sad to see the empty streets and closed shops in this video. Hopefully you will be able to visit when everything reopens and go to the Dino Park Mini Golf (restaurant and mini golf both highly recommended) and stay at the lovely Kata Palm Resort that we still dream about years later. Saving our dollars for when everything reopens and we can return to Thailand :) PS Subscribed! These videos help scratch the travel itch for us! and your kindness makes the videos even better

NEWS UPDATE: 'Shorter Quarantine If Tourist Test Succeeds' - As surmised in my vid, the Thai authorities will try to get a few limited test-runs in asap, then if successful (& barring any major setbacks) likely ease some restrictions and widen the scope. The latest report today seems to mirror this. Still not 'ideal' of course but a welcome start at least. This is initially aimed at long-stay visitors but if all goes well it's likely they'll look at even shorter term options (perhaps test prior to & on arrival as ATTA & others have floated???). We shall see but here's wishing Thailand and those wanting to return all success as this evolves. Full report: www.bangkokpost.com/learning/easy/1991543/shorter-quarantine-if-tourist-test-succeeds?

Just found your channel,, Hello Fellow Canadian, From BC, anyways this December going to Bangkok and spending a month travelling around,, and I really want to go stay on a beach hotel or something,,nothing that is going to break the bank, I notice from some of your videos, you seem to find unreal deals,, I was wondering because honestly I do not know what to look for, and I would appreciate, any help you could give me or hotel names on the beach,,,All this will be my first time going to Asia, so really excited, thank you for your videos,

Hi and welcome fellow BC'r. Many of these older vids were during 'Rona time thus prices are bouncing back now. However, I just checked and you can still find an a/c hotel near the beach in Phuket with a rooftop pool for like 1000 Baht/$30 bucks. What I do is first search say 'Phuket Hotels' on Google then click 'Maps'. Then slide the price bar down to say 1200 baht. Then with the remainder I research each to find the best suitable hotel. Last step, I go to Agoda to book as that's usually the best price. Agoda: www.agoda.com/city/phuket-th.html?cid=1898974 As for beaches, I'd recommend looking at my Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao vids for some ideas. So many to choose from.

Another great video that brought back many good memories from my July 2019 Kata/Karon trip. It's very sad to see Phuket struggling financially, but the only solution is to open Thailand up fully. No more silly 'schemes" that feature quarantine, insurance, fit to fly letters, prepaid hotel reservations or multiple COVID tests before and after arrival in Thailand. Unfortunately, Thailand needs to feel a little more financial pain before they start to "see the light" and open without restrictions. No tourist, including me, will fly to Thailand from the USA for 2 weeks vacation and spend all the time in quarantine, having to go through so many bull s**t hoops. Surely, they are not that stupid! Anyway, keep making great videos and showing us what we miss: Thailand.

@TulsaTheTraveler Hi there, will try to answer best I can. Only 3 hotels on Phuket have been approved for the ASQ / quarantine program. Here's a list provided by a Thai Consulate site: thaiconsulatela.org/en/visa/related-procedures-in-requesting-for-a-certificate-of-entry-and-visa-to-enter-thailand/alternative-state-quarantine-asq/ And here's a FB group with many ASQ guests updating their experience daily: web.facebook.com/groups/1859391754195276/ Apparently 70+ more hotels have recently applied due to the new 'STV' or long term visa program announcement (details of this program are still being finalised). One should enquire about ASQ admittance by contacting your local Thai embassy or consulate. Chok dee/Good luck!

Questions: I watched a fair amount of your videos and have noticed you have rented a car in most of the places you have toured that allows full car access roads. I noticed you didn't rent a car in phuket. is there a reason you care to share as to why you didn't do so? If you were to rent a car in Phuket, where would you have looked to rent one?

I see I'm not the only farang who speaks Thai and gets answered in English!! Drives me batty!
@SideTripLife4 жыл бұрын
@Samson wilkinson 555! My Thai language skills are just slightly above 'Taxi-Thai' so I'm ok with being responded to in English actually. Many times a Thai speaking English is superior to my Thai language skills (or lack thereof;). I've also unintentionally caused more confusion speaking Thai incorrectly at times. Thus have appreciated when a Thai person politely interjects in English along the lines of 'Are you sure you want XYZ' etc (with me belatedly realising I'd almost bungled it!!). I've also witnessed fellow foreigners completely bungling say a food order (or worse) then blaming the Thai staff. But for fluent foreign Thai speakers I get that it may feel like a rebuke. However, methinks the Thai person probably just dealt with too many other Taxi-Thai bunglers like myself thus, is only trying to be helpful :) Anyways good point and chok dee

@Travelin' Fool I like to look at and show property in various places I visit. But I stay clear of recommending any real estate deals, or lawyers/solicitors etc. Thus, best to do one's own research and especially in any foreign country like Thailand, as thoroughly as possible.

As a real estate investor, I would say no. The returns are poor, you can only stay for 1 month during the year for 15 years and god knows what other restrictions and stipulations come with the purchase. But each to their own, maybe all of my negatives are positives to you

Mexico is great! But there's no place or substitute for Thailand;) The Thailand STV program is designed for long stayers and is extremely limited to start. This is really just a 'test' phase-in. All goes well in the limited runs and likely they open up more and restrict less. Enjoy Mexico and hope all can return to Thailand sooner than later. Cheers/Sawadee amigo/khrup

Does the government hoping that this business open based on this new rediculous STV !
@SideTripLife4 жыл бұрын
@Chris R For sure it's far from ideal but it's a start at least. They've said the STV program will be very limited initially, really just to test the protocols (& likely to gauge public reactions). If all goes well, they'll increase the scope etc and 'possibly' reduce some restrictions. So as the various proposals get trialled & evolve, here's wishing Thailand success & eventual wheels up for all wanting to return (& hopefully sooner than later).
