The video is interesting and I appreciate also the effort you put in to boosting back and attract tourism by showing the beauty of Thailand and especially Phuket, which is suffering the most in the entire country. On the other hand it would be useful to clarify some important details to our tourists coming from abroad as well, related to the still "tough and expensive process every tourist will have to go through in terms of pre-arriving costs and documents & while staying mandatory ASQ hotels for 14 days (which are still only 3 available in Phuket and very expensive dough). I hope the government will speed up in finding "cheaper alternative solutions", otherwise it will be unlikely to see an increase of tourists over the next 6 months. By the way great video!😉
@SideTripLife4 жыл бұрын
@Abbis Ambrosius Thanks for your balanced comment. Was only intending to show how things look now really but fair points. To try to address some of the points raised, will copy n paste my response to a similar query below: ---------- -Agreed, a lengthy quarantine is a non-starter for many. Also, more hotels with less pricier options are needed. 70+ hotels have recently applied (on Phuket alone) and are awaiting inspection/approval, hopefully some with more realistic prices too. Just to note, 14 day quarantine is also the minimum requirement for returning Thais though, thus this has been the minimum public acceptance threshold. The Thai Govt has actually stated multiple times the need to reopen and various plans have been run up the flagpole (to gauge the public's response;). But then the positive Egyptian pilot in Rayong went awol from his hotel on a shopping junket and the public pushed back again (understatement!). After that settled down, the Govt again softly proposed a Phuket model (14 days within the grounds of a hotel, then free to go after final neg test). But on this announcement for a proposed kick-off in Oct, domestic bookings to Phuket for Oct were cancelled en masse... This was followed by the Govt taking a tour of Phuket with several public hearings and assurances. Then we had the Khao San Rd guy positive test. KSR was just getting on its wobbly feet but was then also promptly deserted. Also the 'safe n sealed' Phuket model was again hushed due to renewed backlash from the KSR incident. This was followed by the KSR guy's contacts tested (500+) and all came back neg, great! Things settled down and once again reopening proposals are being floated, this time with dire warnings by the Govt if no reopening the economic consequences will be even more severe... The Govt has also just approved a long-stay visa program (designed for snowbirds who spend at least 3 months up to 9 months here each year). Then, yesterday we have the addition of ATTA with this headline: "Atta preps scheme to enable short-haul visits" ---------------------- QUOTE: "The Association of Thai Travel Agents (Atta) plans to propose an inbound tourism plan without a 14-day quarantine for the short-haul market... We have to take a first step within the fourth quarter this year...." -------------------- The 'plan' is similar to the Cambodia model (sans $2000 deposit) whereby you test neg 72 hours prior to wheels up, then test again on arrival and if all on your flight were ok too, away you go (well, TBA, devil in the details usually;). Another 'slight' wrinkle is in ATTA stating only those from cities with no new cases within 60 days will be admitted. Of course there's a myriad of ways around this... However, it's mostly window dressing to try to placate fears. Reality is, if you tested neg 72 hours prior to take-off, then your group of passengers again tests neg 48 hrs after arrival, in all likelihood you're then good to go. However, current tests don't pick up all markers and some could test neg but be incubating within 5-14 days (thus, the 14 day rule currently). So the Govt actually IS wanting to proceed in some fashion, just something always pops up and sets things back. Hopefully they can find ways which are acceptable to the public and darned soon. Personally, have stated from the outset they'll have something in place by the 4th quarter (at least a phase-in plan) and tested well prior to the all important Chinese New Year which falls on Feb 12. Barring any major incidents, I'll hold to that. Here's hoping it's wheels up in some form or another & sooner than later.

Hi, I just left Patong to get back to England before the visa amnesty ran out. I was staying in a good hotel on the side street you said you would not attempt to go up. There is also a good little bar/cafe on the left opposite a hotel for sale. It's open, or was open, from about 11am till 4pm The other beaches are not as deserted as Patong but still very quiet. A few weeks ago Patong beach had a good festival which brought in lots of people, there were traffic jams along the beach road and the roads leading there! Away from the beach area to the more local areas you will find more places open. Enjoy your stay

Hello, I was wondering how did you find the weather there in September? I'm planning on going there this year with my fiance and the only time that we can make it happen is September. But from what I found online its the worst time to visit due to the rain. In your video, it seemed to have turned out fine for you. Could you please share more on this? Thank you!
@SideTripLife2 жыл бұрын
I had mixed weather, some showers but brief as usual (unless a big system is coming ashore) and had plenty of sun too. Hopefully you and your fiance will have the same. Either way, Phuket is always lovely and warm (even on a wet day;) Cheers, STL

Wonderful place, thankfully got here before the lockdown. Bangla bars are fighting for survival but on some odd days one might see quite a bit of local expats visiting it. Also, after 8pm we have a gogo pole dancers here performing at the front side of the bars. Illusion, Funkbar, are open and alive, although with less customers of course. Freelancers are coming too at later hours. Local officials say they'll be opening the place for international flights this October, with 2 weeks quarantine. May be not to all countries yet but gradually adding more. Also, govt is mulling over offering visitors 9 month visa on the outset, instead of 1 or 3 month visas like it was before.

Awesome genuine video. I am saying because a lot of guys are posting fake old videos. Great picture quality 👌. Dude you know thai language well.
@SideTripLife4 жыл бұрын
@Salman Baig Thanks but to be fair to other vloggers, unfortunately many are stuck outside of Thailand thus some are posting previous trip clips. No harm in that and viewers may appreciate seeing how it was pre current event too. I'm just very fortunate (& grateful actually) to be here, especially now. Picture quality... to be really honest, I had an action cam but it died at the start of this trip. Also had a new Samsung S10 (great phone, stable video too) but dropped it, fatally. Thus this vid and other recent vids were shot on my back-up, 4 year old Samsung S7 (& hand-held, no gimbal even;) but it gets the job done. I'm stubbornly holding out for a new phone with great video, super stabilisation, good low light & 5G. It may be the Samsung S20 ultra but will wait n see what Apple comes up with in Oct. I don't like carrying big cameras, lenses, gimbals, mics, cords, etc etc. Just need a good phone, nice and simple. My Thai language skills are actually slightly above what is known as 'taxi-Thai' (ie: shockingly poor;) & my Thai writing skills = same-same... but I get by and enjoy interacting and that's the main thing. Thanks for viewing, part 2 coming! Cheers

Patong Beach is one of the most popular destinations in Phuket. The resort town is mostly renowned for its 3-km-long beach and for its tremendous and often hectic nightlife, but there's also a good number of natural and manmade attractions and sites that add to Patong's appeal.

Did you actually film this video in September?? I'm trying to plan a trip there for this September/October, but all the sources say that it is really rainy during those months. It doesn't look like it from the footage though! I'm hoping the weather will be alright while we're there, but do you have any places you recommend visiting to avoid the rain?
@SideTripLife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah. It was late August actually but SW Monsoon kicks in from around end of May so it was wet season any way you slice it. Currently I'm on Koh Phangan and although the weather forecast calls for straight thundershowers and rain, it's sunny outside right now and usually get a few hours of sun a day despite this is rainy season. Having said that, you can also catch a few days of solid rain if a big system is coming in, or, days of sun if between weather systems. SW & NE monsoons affect all parts of the country thus Dec-April is most ideal for least rain but bottom line, wouldn't 'not' travel in rainy season either. EDIT to add: just noticed you said THIS Sept/Oct? Personally would await result of Thailand's vax program starting from June (& then also assess any lingering restrictions). They still want to open Phuket/Samui etc asap but they need 70% of locals vaxxed and here's hoping they can. Good luck (and to Thailand)
