The equipment thing is so true. I went from a gaming laptop to a gaming desktop and wow, the difference was amazing. Went from bronze to gold in like a season. I tried to go back and play on my laptop once and it was impossible. Higher ping, worse fps, never again.

I think it depends on the quality of the gear. If you have really bad gear that in some way limits you, then yes, I think changing to decent gear can make a noticeable difference and can make you climb. But other than that, I think upgrading won't make a good player out of a bad player overnight.

​@@123Suffering456oh yeah, I couldn't believe how much my laptop was hindering me. It was a 2018 gaming laptop, and we built my new computer at the beginning of 2023. So maybe it was just that the laptop was also old, but I was so shocked the fps and ping I could get on the new desktop, even on the highest settings. I had to play on Medium on my laptop or else my fps dropped significantly.

Id bet the laptop's age or specs were to blame. I swap between a laptop and desktop pretty frequently, but the laptop has a 240hz monitor and pushes 120-200 fps in overwatch. I got a good deal on it, but it still cost enough to build a very healthy desktop with, though. ​@ampheia

@@gummostump4217 that sounds amazing! Mine was a $1,200 computer that I got new for $800. But it was never able to run Overwatch well, and it was prone to overheating, even with a cooling pad under it.

Hot take: The dev's toying with the idea of choosing passive(s) to suit your playstyle, it brought back an idea I've had for a while, which is an evolved version of that, basically adding to a specific playstyle of a hero while keeping the overall theme. It's a rough idea that I haven't tested publicly but I think has potential in some form, adding variety and player agency to better fill a niche in a given match w/o swapping, or for hero fantasy. *QUICK proof of concept examples for Soldier :* *"Run'n'Gun":* Shoot while sprinting with increased spread - Slight spread increase when not sprinting - lowered cooldown on Helix Rockets if they hit an enemy directly - Increased Sprint speed/control (potentially as a resource) - Biotic Field sticks to the player (unchanged or remove AoE increasing heal over time, could be player choice) or make it a 'Stim' shot that burst heals (+ fill Sprint resource meter if that is introduced). _Soldier, but with more mobility_ *"Slow'n'Steady":* Increased bullet damage but slightly lowered firerate - First two shots are hyperburst (AN-94 rifle) - Helix Rockets now fire 4 rockets instead of 3, increasing overall size and damage - Damage taken while sprinting cancels the effect potentially adding a small cooldown. _Improved mid-range Soldier, but less reliable mobility_ *"Standard":* _Soldier stays how he is now._ It could also be a number of individually chosen upgrades instead of presets like here, maybe 4 Shuriken Genji alt fire for a little more tank busting or something idk, but you get the idea. Keeping a hero roughly the same while adding that feeling of individuality and replayability. I dont think it would make it harder for newcomers because its not game breaking, it just defines a hero niche.

Hot take: Mystery heroes is the superior game mode for solo player skill expression. Although it is inherently unbalanced due to rng it also requires extremely good game knowledge to be able to succeed in most wacky scenarios. Being good enough at all heroes is a much better representation of skill than only being able to play a few. Also bring back comp MH as that is peak fun imo.

Have been hovering between plat and masters for ages since moving to PC in OW1 season 4 (from Xbox T500 in S1-S3) and the same continued in OW2. Played a lot of mystery during the years and always asked for competitive mystery heroes even in OW1. When we finally got it, what do you know, got to T500 in it, but it might be due to lower amount of players (who knows). Still, it surely captures a different skillset because you can't counterswap on command. If you only know a few heroes or can't flex, you won't do well in mystery.

Nah bro I just disagree. Being okay at all heros is not as good as being really good at one or a few. Think about this in any real life scenario. Would you want to hire a game dev who can do model code texture lighting work pretty okay. Or hire a damn good modeler a damn good coder a damn good texture maker and a guy damn good at lighting.

I am a mystery heros Andy. The worst thing about MH is the player pool. Same 40 people just rotating through syd2 servers. There are a lot of people that as soon as it's gets to a certain time of night I don't play. Which just so happens to be when Sydney time zone hits 4-5pm. Otherwise I love MH, it's actually harder then qp

Hot Take: Overwatch 2 should’ve gone to 7v7 instead of 5v5. If they wanted to balance DPS queue times they should’ve just given us a third damage character instead of removing a tank (which ruined a bunch of 6 stacks)

Hot take: blizzard should do something to reinforce the efficacy of Defense Matrix (the social one, not the skill). The feeling of impunity in my games has reached stratospheric levels, to the point where trolls actually go into all chat and say "go ahead and report, it does nothing". There's people openly using racist slurs, players throwing and admitting on text chat, I even had a random guy deciding he was gonna throw my game because I asked people to report his main account. 2 Days later I find him in game again, even though the entire lobby said they'd report him.

Nope , L take. The report system is infamous for banning people for no reason IF enough amount of reports happen. Either nobody reported him , they said they would but didn't or it was his first offense and did t trigger the system yet

From my experience, these throwers do actually get banned when I report them, but it usually takes a whole week and multiple people and matches of reporting them.

I’ve come to realize that the hinder grenade became a crutch for me. Now the skill is pointed back at me to get better instead of letting the hinder pull a gotcha. I still kinda miss it though. But one thing I do like is stopping a Rein charge - usually the old hinder would wind around and trail the Rein and ultimately not stop him, while the new flash stops him immediately in his tracks (like the old flash used to).

For the first person i 100% agree. I was playing on a 70inch tv in my basement and i bought 28in gaming monitor and i can feel the difference. It might not make my aim better but it makes the game easier to see and understand whats going on

Suggestion: Rein’s charge should reset if you pin an opponent and they die, sort of like Genji’s dash. It would give rein players an incentive to play more aggressively.

As someone with nearing 1k on rein, as much as I would LOVE this it would be busted asf cause you could just pin in, insta kill someone, and then escape unharmed immediately

@@CT--tm2zm i dont think it would be busted because, a rein rarely charges in a crowd to pin because even if you get the kill, youre now a sitting duck deep in the enemy territory. I think this will make him a lot better but not like Orisa past seasons busted. More of a quality of life change IMO

The first comment is pretty real, actually. In OW1, I climbed from ~2200 to ~3200 in 2 weeks after I got a headset and mic, when before I was just using my monitor's speakers.

@DMFDan2 what are you smoking, you can hear perfectly well enough to keep track without a good headset on max volume. I can swap between my headset and speakers with my game master volume on 10 and hear everything or theres literally subtitles if you want to go that far. And secondly if you're paying attention to what's going on you can see enough info to be ready for most things just keep track of what's happening

Hot Take: The reason counter swamping is so bad for tanks is because "tank buster" heroes are too brain dead to swap to. Yes you can play into a counter as a tank but the effort required for you to get value vs. the effort required to "counter" you isn't equal. Reaper, Mauga, Bastion etc... just provide way to much value at lower ranks for no skill trade off. The best counter situations are like the old Pharah vs Widow match, where yes Widow could counter Pharah but only if they were good enough to hit the shots. There was a skill check in the counter matchup that doesn't exist with tank countering, meaning anyone can counter a tank and get some free value without having to commit to mastering that hero while tank players have to either swap non stop or absolutely perfect their play to survive.

Very rarely am I even inconvenienced by a reaper on Winton, they rarely are a player who put in the time to actually learn to play reaper at their own elo, and the detriment to their team for running the worst DPS in the game far outweighs the detriment of me having to keep my eyes on an edge lord who needs to be directly on top of me to do any damage

6:43 I think a good example about "Meta Checks" not being the way they should balance is when they buffed Reaper and Mei during Goats, and how it did NOTHING in Reaper's case, and created a variation of Goats that had a Mei in it. A better hot take would have been that Blizzard needs to grow a pair and start nerfing problematic stuff instead of using power creep, because power creep is one of the reasons the balance is so bad in the first place. Nerfing Sojourn and Kiriko (for once) is a step in the right direction.

Hot take: they should buff the hell out of Baps Lamp (it's health, area of effect, duration), nerf Window (size, modifiers, duration) and then switch them places. Immortality shouldn't be a cooldown so they should turn it into an ult and I'm sure window would make a good cooldown

Suggestions: User interface: why cant we have customizable ui. I would love to move the hp bar to that spot between the crossairs and the ult charge meter. Having to glance to the corners for vital information mid fight is unpleasant. User interface 2: why cant we have an accessibility option to visualize sound from certain distance. It is a wonderful way to assist in enemy Kiriko: why not give her kunai some damage fall off. This would be something to adjust her overall power without having to sacrifice how well her kit works. Reaper: how about firing a slug for his secondary fire. It could do 70-85% as much as a full spread of his normal shot, but with a single accurate projectile. This would positively reward good aim via the headshots and give him a tool to deal with things that are outside of his normal attack range. Mercy: is there any way we can have the self heal when healing allies with her cadeus staff fixed. Her movement is ok, it's her self sustain that needs work. Soldier 76: why can't we have the fire & reload while running. I know it was just an April fools thing, but it was the smoothest he has played, ever. Pharah: will you please give us the jet dive back. In tandem with the recent movement rework she received that ability made her so much more fun to play. Reinhardt: can we please get the speed boost on sheild shatter. The counterwatch (I think) version of Reinhardt sheild break is fantastic.

i mean isnt reaper's whole kit built around him being a close range shotgun character? Wouldnt that change be giving up the trade off reaper has of doing a lot of damage but having to be close? Kiri is a projectile hero, im pretty sure most or almost all of them lack fall off damage because of projectiles being harder to land than hitscans. Honestly her kunai are fine, her kit is the issue. None of kiri's abilities on their own are busted, its all of these things on a single character that are. Its so hard to punish a kiri, even if she is losing a fight she can either suzu herself to heal and gain temp immortality or just tp to teammates with no los. It feels like being in a fight with a genji but worse, if genji wants to disengage he needs to use a cd that helps him escape but they still give enemy the chance to kill, each of his escape tools give enemy a chance to kill, kiri doesnt the second things go wrong she cant tp to a teammate with no counter play.

@ShurouInu as to the reaper issue, that's why it had a 70-85 % of spread damage if a full shot. It would give him something with a little kick to deal a slightly heavier, but not overwhelming punch to combat the armored foes. Not enough damage to make him scarry, unles the reaper is plinking headshots. It would just give him a little more utility against heavy & mid range opponents. Plus, you really think the shotgun character wouldn't be a ton of fun to play with different ammo types. Like incendiary to burn, or fleshette to bleed, or slugs for armor peirce, or buckshot to pop a support. And, yeah. I guess balancing kiriko wouldn't be that easy, but it would be something. Oh, or instead of damage fall off, projectile drop. Just less since they're still pretty aerodynamic.

Hot take: We need to bring back offtanks to help tank role feel less overwhelming. This can be done by creating a new role "flex dps", that takes one of the DPS slots. This flex dps would have the option to take regular DPS heroes or a new hero category "off-tank". In this category we would have tuned down versions of roadhog, zarya, jq... some dps like mei could be integrated into this category too. Balance as needed. So basiclly off load some pressure from the tank by having one dps have the option to take a dps/tank mix hero.

Heya KarQ, love your vids and your reevaluation/explanation involving the elo hell statistics discussion... Just wanted to provide a slightly different perspective you may appreciate, as I am currently working on my PhD in geneflow and species evolution. Bio statistics may be more apt for the OW framework than general statistics, as we are looking at a highly evolving and diverse population rather than a static population sample where (like a series of single variable coin flips or dice rolls) a standard normal distribution (simple hill curve) is inevitable. But considering all the variables at play, the P that someone ranks up/down is much more dependent on external factors that significantly change from "rank tier" to the next. This leads to something like a multimodal distribution of "success" for the population of all OW players. On the macro level, sure there's a larger density of individuals at the center of the total SR distribution, but once you zoom in, you would see lots of separate distribution curves like a tessalation. The deeper you go, the more separate curves you would see. Consequently, a small percentage of individuals would always fall in between these hills, regardless of inherent skill/experience/performance. This may very well explain the small, but vocal set who are experiencing "elo hell" with sincerity (not taking into account the whiners who just latch onto the phrase in self-delusion). TLDR; "Elo Hell cannot exist because of basic statistics" is an inherently flawed conclusion because the premise itself is incorrect. There's nothing basic about the statistics at play here... and even the most basic statistics (a series of coin tosses) will show that elo hell is plausible on a micro level. Yes the avg is 50% heads in an infinite series, but there will be strings of 100 heads in a row too... even 10,000... if we are truly talking an infinite series. Sounds like elo hell to me. I know my perspective is all over the place, but i'll admit it's not easy to apply a framework like this without the hard data. Also i'm good with numbers, not words... hahaha. Anyways, keep up the great content!!

I’d use “fair” instead of “better”, everyone knows what it will do now. If someone plays too aggressive and dies because they can’t escape when they get hit by it it’s on them, if you play outside it’s range, bait it and kill cass for missing it’s on him. Pure skill vs skill. It won’t follow a retreating doom through the air, make a left turn, stick to the pharah and make her fall into the void.

Its ass to play with tho. The range is literally 2 feet in front of you and you cant use it for anything but a close range hinder which makes the ability near useless in his effective range. Its not even great at preventing dives, it just momentarily prevents opps like tracer from blinking for a split second so you can kill her after she dives. Pre-nerf you could prevent dives from happening entirely as its range allowed you to be more proactive with its usage on a threat. It went from RNG but serviceable to near useless in 90% of scenarios. I dont think they need to bring back magnetic but at least buff its range to mid range instead of touching tips range.

Suggestion/Hot take: moiras healing and damage interaction should flip. Instead of needing to deal damage in order to have enough resources to heal, i think she should need to heal to charge/buff her damage. DPS moiras are common in lower rank, so giving them a very strong incentive to actually keep the team alive and not just flank the whole game would be great.

I am fine with moira being easy and fun to damage with, but i think all supports should be incentivised to heal as much as possible, not damage as much as possible (there is a paladins character, a healer angel with a swordgun, who has a fire rate buff that increases the more healing she does. She was easily my favourite character when i played that game and having a similar system in overwatch would be great)

Hot take: the higher you climb, the more toxic it gets, I’ve noticed that since I went from silver/gold to diamond everyone is so much more toxic and vocal about their issues, begging swaps, blaming and just being too serious about minor stuff, like drop the ego

Hot take: Damage boost shouldn't boost critical damage. Basically criticals should be additive not multiplicative. It's kinda silly that Critical+damage boost deals more damage than Bap Amplication Matrix+Damage boost.

Hot take: belief in "elo hell" decreases as a function of one's rank, likely because the higher ranked one is, the more one seeks to justify why they deserve it. Similarly, the lower ranked one is, the more one seeks to externalize the lack of success. It's the fundamental attribution error through and through.

Hot Take: I get to be toxic in chat as the tank player even in quickplay. If my dps or supps are dramatically underperforming, (1/3 my damage as tank, negative kd, etc.), no one calls them out. If I do, everyone defends them "it's just qp, don't take it so serious". But if I as the tank player decide to try Winston for the first time and do understandably not that well, my whole team is on me for not keeping their match at a baseline competitive level for them. Because I am only one tank and they are many, I must perform at higher level than the rest just to keep the match not in total landslide territory. As such, it is aggravating having to meet this standard just for my even one of my teammates to basically throw. If people want less toxic tanks, they need to start queuing themselves (and help balance these queue times). Until that happens, keep it toxic ;)

Hot take: Dva in community mode has made a character i never bothered with as a tank main into my favourite character in the game. I dont care too much about the defense matrix charging your missiles, but i NEED them to add full flight to the boosters, ive never had so much fun on tank

It seems like a near necessary change to bring her primary dmg mitigation into a competitive place. I think a spherical sheet of defense matrix over the site of her ultimate would make it a lot better. Heroes that can't beat the matrix from the outside can still invade (if they dare). Maybe bring that range back in line. Her ult needs buffed somehow. A light suggestion I suppose.

Hot take: As a dps main I don’t mind countering as much but I also play a lot of support and tank and it takes a long time but I can basically play every character expect for like 3 characters but to say that dps and support don’t mind countering is a lie cause when I pop off as Genji and the next team fight the entire enemy team runs Zarya, Sym, Mei, Moira, and Brig it pisses me off so much especially in a quick play game and while playing tank it’s very similar after one team fight. Other examples of getting hard countered is Ana with Kiri, Pharah with any hitscan (also applies to Echo and Mercy), Widow with any dive hero (also Ashe and Hanzo but less so cause they have better close range abilities and firepower), and finally basically any tank. But either way countering is extremely annoying especially when it’s quick play and you’re just trying to have fun but in comp it makes more sense but it’s still really annoying.

Hot Take: Counter swapping is a big portion of why tank feels bad. Ult charge retention for tanks should be repealed, for sure. But I also think it should go a little beyond; like a status effect(I'd call it Lost Momentum) where you get half ult charge for 20 to 30 seconds. The only upside to counter swapping should be a favorable match-up.

Alec Dawson never said Space Ranger had an ally speed boost. He said she brings a utility that only one other character has at the moment. But 3 heroes currently have allied speed increases. It could be that Alec misspoke, but it's bad practice to misrepresent the actual facts of what he said.

Yeah watch it be Rez lol But yeah, in reality it's probably a speed boost or cleanse, I doubt they'd want to add more high uptime damage boost abilities and I don't think Kiris ult really counts as a true movespeed boost and queens not a support so she wouldn't be included in the discussion, he said that it was a unique utility that only one *support* has It could honestly be a straight up shield like brig has, I could see a support who zips around the map like mercy and projects some sort of frontal barrier to protect allies

Hinder is better than stun tho, but yeah not great. Mauga is 10000% the worst, rather play against old brig honestly. Maugas design is so amazingly flawed that I will make any mauga players day awful. I will focus him no matter what, and if im Ana everything is hitting him. Absolutely hate that character

Hot take: I'm FED UP of the movement to reactionary abilities that punish proactive gameplay with comparable ease. Abilities like suzu, lamp, zen kick, cas dmg resist roll and flash, lw's entire kit, hitscan being way better than projectile DPS, Rez, orisa, maybe even hog hook all promote sitting there doing nothing and living forever and then punishing any aggressive play. It's boring to watch/play and it's just unfun so shouldnt be encouraged (tho it's not as much a problem in higher ranks cause people take/hold angles better). This also helps tank as the game is more fast paced and about making plays to get kills rather than just living forever as playing agro is punished too easily (so the game is less about countering the tank and more about picking the best comp to go fast and brawl/dive and kill the backline)

The equipment thing is true though, i just dont think it really applies to Overwatch. Its more a fighting game thing. Back when I used to play For Honor, I noticed a difference between my old Xbox one and Tv, vs my current Series X and Tv. Higher fps, higher refresh rate, made a noticebale difference. There used to be attacks that would just hit me cuz even if I, on the controller, reacted in time my character in game didnt. With the new stuff those precious milliseconds of getting the info earlier and more accurately made playing less frustrating.

Hot Take: Statistics and the "Law of Large Numbers" actually proves elo hell(and heaven) instead of disproving it. Both those principles show and tell us that the more games you play, the closer you get to being your actual rank, which I believe is right; but a big thing that most miss are statistical outliers. Unless you are a scienctist controlling every little thing in a lab enviorment, outliers will always exist out in the world and overwatch is no different. Most people, myself included have had games where we lost, but didnt get or play any worse and have also had games we won, but didnt get or play any better. In a sense, elo hell and elo heaven are both very real things, those are the games where everything seems to be going wrong or right without a real reason. Plus add in the fact of 9 other people having a similar or opposite experience and yeah i can see it. If i'm being honest, 95% of games are going as they should, with 2.5% being elo hell and 2.5% being elo heaven, that 5% is made up of outliers. Edit: spelling

Theyre right about Cowboys nade, the current grenade does basically nothing for you against being Dove, it is for all intents and purposes just there to make very mobile aggression heroes more easy to deal with. Tracer/Venture/Genji in particular but that arent the heroes that people used old Nade against, in particular old Hinder was best against Tanks because it quashed momentum but actually had the reach to stop them at the apex of their engage as opposed to just stopping the engage of a hero who has already engaged on you. i feel like Old Hinder did more to expand and round out what cowboy does, but New Hinder dials him back into where they wanted him to be strong. he probably wasnt intended to be so good at blunting engages, but hes now a bit better at certain duels and making heroes who dont tend to commit more commital after theyve gone in

Suggestion/hot take: Reaper needs an alternate fire. Heroes having empty ability slots in general always feels like a waste to me, but reaper is so simple rn that i think he needs something added more than movement and shooting. Even just a tighter spread shot that does headshot damage, or firing both shotguns at once

Hot Take: I am a paladins and overwatch player, In paladins there is a character similar to our Rein. Tanks in paladins are in much better state than ow with almost every tanks are viable in ranked. Yeah you can argue that there is double tank meta in paladins but also without the 2nd tank, you can make it work if your tank choice is good. I am suggesting some buff inspired by "Fernando from Paladins" that I think should not be op. Here are some changes: 1. So currently rein, while he is already carrying a player during his charge, if other player gets in his way, they get booped. Instead do while he is carrying he will go through others and will deal a small amount of damage like 100 or 120 or you can make it so while he is in charge wind up animation, he will gain CC immunity for 1.2sec, because usually people like ana players fire's their sleep shot during his wind up which is relatively easy in my opinion, this buff will help mitigate that issue since the opponent will need to time their stuns or sleeps correctly. 2. Nerf his base fire strike damage by 10 or 15. Make it so with each pierce will increase the damage. Yeah it would be worse against single enemy but usually rein players go for multiple hits believe me 3. Make it so his fire strike will grant him 10% movement speed when hit, stacks up to 2 times .. so 20% or After his charge ends he will gain 20% movement speed buff for couple of seconds 4. Nerf Rein's base damage on his shatter (or maybe do not, your choice). Make it so shatter will instantly destroy shields and deployables, like turrets and stuff. But for balance, if it hits any shield in it's way then it will not stun the player behind it.. will just destroy the shields(Based on Raum's shatter in paladins)

hot take: Sombra's design specifically punishes high skill expression heroes while not affecting lower skill expression heroes to the same extent; thus, Sombra is a skill counter. lets say you are a decent Doomfist who has spent 80+ hours learning combos and rollouts to get value. if they go Sombra, they can just sit next to a dive target - completely invisible - and blow you up in seconds with little to no effort. or say you're a Widow main who has spent years working on your aim in videogames. if they go Sombra, the only scenario where you "win" is escaping with your life unless the Sombra player can't track you and empties a full mag into the wall. now lets say you're an Orisa who just got home from work and are a few beers in. if you get hacked, you don't really care because its easy enough to pop fortify while you're being hacked and can survive basically anything at that point. or you're a Bastion who got this game to play with you friends. unless you're trying a risky rocket jump over a cliff getting hacked really doesn't effect you whatsoever.

hot take: Tanks shouldn't get less affected from soft cc. I understand and agree that sleep, anti etc. affect tanks a lot more so they can get less affected from those, but it's next to impossible to boop a tank off the map with lucio or pharah, which promotes laziness and turn-your-brain-off type gameplay. I see a poorly positioned tank but my boop can't even move them, I think cc reduction should be more ability oriented, for example instead of giving JQ a constant soft cc reduction, make it so she only has it during her shout.

Opinion plus Hot Take: I've had the most fun in the Community Crafted mode. I love OW and had fun over the years, but never as consistent as these past days on a single mode. Modes like this should be encouraged. Not only can they test tweaks and changes to heroes, but they also keep the game fresh and give more options to players. Also, anyone who played the mode noticed that this mode's queue times are nonexistent? Is this because a lot of people play it? Cause if true, then i rest my case.

i was hardstuck plat for like 4 years, on a 60hz monitor trying to play doomfist, as soon as i got a 180hz monitor, within about 3 months I reached m2, hardware most definitely helps, but you need game sense as well. You cant expect to be in bronze and buy a 360hz monitor and ur gonna get gm, but it is still part of the equation for sure

I really liked the damage only Magnetic Grenade. If they made the Hinder version just a do 120 or so damage and take away hinder I think it would’ve been fine. You still had to lead it a little at longer ranges and it wouldn’t feel as cheesy as the first version where it just homed in automatically. It still gave Cass that close-medium range threat but at the cost of no cc, which personally I liked. It made fighting Tracers more challenging and easy at the same time because you had to bait/force recall before you could actually kill her with it.

Hanzo is not always a luck based hero but he is definitely not a difficult hero. I don't play him often but when I do, I sometimes do a lot better than on my mains. He is really easy and he is really powerful in low ranks.

“Very minorly” not really. When I got some hardware upgrades as well, I climbed up more till I eventually plateaued again (2 divisions higher), which most likely meant that I was able to process info faster and more accurately as a result of the higher refresh rate. Didn’t really change my play style that’s why I didn’t break out further

one of the most infuriating things about old cass nade was when you try to deflect it on genji, you time deflect right, and then you want to cancel and right click for a quick kill, but hinder nade FLOATED in front of deflect instead of getting deflected, so you’d see it hit you, cancel deflect and then get hindered. i hate the old one edit: you could successfully deflect it but it felt awkward to hold it a half second longer than it looks like you need to

Hot Take: They should revert Sojourn to the s10 version of her but nerf her rail gun hitbox size. If they heavily reduced the hitbox size then it wouldn't be as consistent or annoying to play against and you would get to make soj mains like me happy to play her. Because right now she feels fine to play against but at the cost of dumpstering the fun of the hero.

Hot take: Balancing the skill floors and skill ceilings across different heroes would be healthier for the game. It’s frustrating when some heroes get more inherent value than others. For low level supports like me, we’re sick of seeing Moira in every game and with the highest damage and healing, and her being able to win a duel against every other support with seemingly little effort, and then in the kill cam she’s not even looking at you and her damage orb is getting free kills for her. Yes, the story of the player who could only play Moira because of a disability/injury was heartwarming, but I would argue that MMR already addresses the accessibility issue. That’s why MMR exists. Plus the fact that certain heroes get so much more free value than others kind of discourages us from trying the harder heroes, and makes MMR more variable between heroes. Since MMR is actually tied to role and not to individual heroes, it would be more accurate if the skill level required for different heroes was more similar.

i mean damage orb isnt that hard to dodge or evade, i dont exactly see it getting a ton of kills unless youre purposefully ignoring it bouncing in a room with you or ur already low. I dont think your experience as a low level support justifies changing the skill it takes for certain heroes, moira is way easier to handle at higher ranks. Moira isnt particularly hard to deal with, for her primary you just stay out of its range or stay close enough while attacking that they cant effectively use it all the time. Theres also the fact that moira has a resource pool that limits her primary healing Its not really discouraging to learn harder heroes. You cant use a easier hero performing well in low ranks as a reasoning to not try harder heroes, those easier heroes gain less and less value as you rank up while the harder ones typically remain valuable in high ranks. For example reaper is easy to use and does serious work in low ranks but is well understood to be worse off in high ranks, or tracers who are easier in low ranks due to lack of skill but a pain to deal with in higher ranks

I think they should remove orisas javelin spin and bring back halt. They have so many takes that have dvas dm now, and halt made orisasa unique. I know halt into javelin would probably feel annoying to get hit by but it's better than shooting a wall, and I think it would make her more fun to play.

What people always forget about when it comes to mag grenade: IT HAD A LOCKON DISTANCE OF 1.3 METERS. For reference, standard melee range is 2.5 meters. THATS ALMOST HALF THE RANGE OF A MELEE. Think about that. THINK ABOUT HOW CLOSE YOU HAVE TO BE TO MELEE....now cut that distance in half. THATS how close a mag grenade had to be to even lock on. The chase part didnt always end with being stuck either, as good players could out play it with LOS or quickly using a movement ability. Additionally, It had DOUBLE the cooldown of most other dps secondaries and did half the damage of ALL dps secondaries. Thats pretty crap. The reason why people 'disliked it' was because yall are addicted to your favorite streamers. Big bad dps streamer dies cause of ahinder and whines about it, all of a sudden its op. Yet, Echo bombs are on half teh cooldown, do over 2x the damage, have INFINITE RANGE, stick to targets, and are more likely to end in a kill. Suuuuuure hinder disabled movement abilities for a second, so freaking what. Perfect example of how streamers have blizzards ear\

bring back competitive mystery heroes: tons of fun, it raised the skill level for everyone who played since you're forced to play your off hand characters, plenty people queue both the unranked (still) and competitive mode (when it's available). streamer mode is out so complaints for low fragging leaderboards isn't even really gonna be an issue, it gives us new concepts to consider and weight like if you should intentional feed quick to roll a more useful character for situations, or jumping off map to ensure you can keep your current character even though it reduces ult charge to 0 again people mainly complain about this mode mentioning the obvious RNG problems like not getting supports on your team and not getting good comps on your team of 5 which is a fair complaint i guess but i'd have to ask how many times you lose role queue games due to someone purposefully throwing, afk, feeding, arguing in text chat (too busy to win), or whatever else. people complain a ton about the actual role queue side of things all the time, just because they carried that same negative mindset over to the new mode doesn't mean it didn't have a good place in the game. the community has been actively playing this mode in both the unranked and ranked when it's available and i'm sure others would enjoy it coming back too

How about this for tanks: Give them a playstyle toggle that can only be done at spawn that replaces one ability with an alternate. For example, Rein could go back to spawn (or do this after a death) and toggle between his version A (traditional Rein,) to version B (replaces Firestrike with a Rocket Hammer Leap that can reach high ground and do a small AOE.) That would give tank players a little more versatility on their main to deal with what is countering them, but at a cost/trade off. It might need a little help from the art department to help communicate at a glance what "Load Out" the tank is using, but I think it would be worth it. It would for sure start to blur the current tank identities where they are fairly defined playstyles and weaknesses, but that IS why they are so counterable. A Rein that suddenly plays kind of like a Winston might start making it feel like "well, why play Winston then?" but I guess that would be part of the design challenge, to make sure alternate abilities don't unfairly step on the toes and overshadow another tank's playstyle TOO heavily.

My personal take is, they've already made a big mistake by making tanks as strong as they have. The REASON people work so hard to counter them is because they HAVE to. Also, of course if one member of the team has a larger proportion of the team's power budget, then they are a crucial person to take out to create breathing room for your team. MMO's should have taught them that the way you deal with an "elite" or "mini boss" is to use every debuff or CC you can, and if that doesn't work then you bring the class/role/tool that perfectly exploits it's weakness. Every issue tanks have crops up from that fundamental problem, and the only "solution" is to buff tanks until there are no tools left to deal with them, at which point you hve an even bigger problem.

the equipment thing is real imo. my ow has been bugged for years. Cant open shop or watch my replay codes, that isn’t the worst part tho. My computer is just nearing its end, but it makes ow unplayable sometimes. almost every game at least twice I will see the little yellow symbols on the left top side and I will start rubber-banding everywhere, I can’t control where I walk or what abilities I use. literally every game it happens so for abt 2 minutes the game is 4v5 till it eventually comes back. sometimes it wont comeback tho and it’s just a loss since I literally can’t play the game. in other words, some equipment can help in a way. I just need a new pc bc I’ve dropped all the way down to gold.

I have just been playing dva (since season 10) and at least for me I don't ever feel the need to swap, I think people saying counter swapping is the problem are probably just coping unless they are super high elo. You don't need to swap cause the enemy went zaria you just need to get good. if the enemy goes zaria, fine play around it. if you cant win, gg go next. just play who you want and stop thinking you have to swap

Hot take: all support hero’s should have less then average health then the dps cast of hero’s. Letting the supports to have strong ability’s and healing numbers but at a cost. A support shouldn’t be able to out damage a dps. The time to kill for dps should always be high, for tanks average, and for supports the lowest. For example Kiri and bap are the two that can out put more damage most of the dps. With two defensive ability’s. Zen doesn’t have anything except for his kick and ultimate. So that’s his only option. As saying I really believe most of the supports health pools should be changed to 225 and supports that don’t have two defensive ability should stay at 250.

Nade was bad, don’t get me wrong. But they should have just changed its follow characteristics FB has one singular distance in which it is effective. Nade could be used at enemies between touching and 10 meters. It provides way less consistency and usability. Sombra/tracer doom is in your guts? Dead. 8 meters away, still dead and you lose a cooldown The cooldown should be lower if it doesn’t proc the hinder

In my opinion elo hell used to be a real thing (a lot less now so) becuase my sr could be in silver yet my mmr would be gold or plat so you would be playing against gold/plat players with the 50/50 chance of winning while you stay in silver even though the game acknowledges that your mmr is higher

My hottest take is now that the game has been crossplay for quite a while - why can we still only avoid up to three players? If access to the player base has tripled then shouldn’t we be able to avoid up to nine players or more?

Only way tanks in 5v5 gonna work if the make tanks do it all like for example the junkerqueen knife April fools with her knife to high ground every tank needs to be high ground somehow so they don’t need to learn all the tanks

Very hot take: Hear me out. Turn all tanks into dps and delete the tank role all together. The heroes that are currently tanks would still have higher health pools/be tankier than the current dps heros. for compensation you could add a 50% healling debuff on all current tanks on some ability(preferably a skill shot ie: orisa's spear.) If you played wow, think of turning rine into a burning crusade arms warrior vs how he is currently closer to a protection warrior. Balancing a tank in pvp seems impossible from a theoretical standpoint. If you have to give a tank hero enough defenses to deal with 5 people shooting at it while also giving it enough damage to not feel useless its going to be unkillable while doing great damage. Its game warping. This is why in wow they avoided making tanks viable in 5v5s for a long time.

Cass flashbang WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PUNISHED FOR MISSING, if you made an error by misusing it or just flat out missing it, you should've d1ed. then hinder came along and it just removed the counter play. Why, as a doom, could I expertly dodge his hinder and it still stick to me? I was tired of punching in and just randomly being selected by the nade to get locked onto. This forces Cass players to actually think about when to use nade. Also his new nade makes it so I can dodge it and he get punished, it's close to perfect for him (except cass needs to either get lower health or way less dmg on right click), same way a kiri misuses suzu and Ana nade can punish.

Hot Take : Elo hell doesn't really exist (really being the operative word). On one hand, sometimes when people get stuck in Gold of Plat and talk about elo hell, they need to realize that it's not the system working against them, it's just that their skill level has plateau'd, and they need to learn new things to keep climbing, which they don't want to because it would hurt their ego, the reason they talk about elo hell in the first place. On the other hand, people in high-levels, especially content creators, tend to forget that they have a second-hand experience of what if means and feels like to play in Silver/Gold/Plat. Because hell exists in these places, for elo or not. Because it's the level where you're most likely to get people who disconnect, who ragequit, who throw a tantrum and then the game, who flame you, who get a big Dunning-Kruger effect. That part is hell.

Cassidy Flashbang --> no movement abilities allowed (although coach gun is allowed), 50% slow effect for 1.2 seconds, no crouching. jeah totally fair (: "Heroes that can do all three roles" --> perfect description for baptiste with his heal pools, sustain, dmg output =D DPS and Supports are generalists - thats true - but also you can help your other buddy on the same role with your pick and thats not the case in the tank role AND on top of that - you get countered by ppl if you are stay 1 second too long alive. BUT the tank need to pick also around their dps and supports - cause if you have lucio/illari or lucio/mercy - there are not many heroes to play as a tank NOT ENOUGH TANK PLAYERS?! THATS A FUCKING ARGUMENT OF A 5vs5 person! HOLY SHIT! you cannot compare OW1 NOT FREE TO PLAY with OW2 FREE TO PLAY AND if you want more tank players - make tank FUN not busted but just FUN!

Bumping Rein Charge to 300 dmg is a clear sign devs got no clue what to do with the current Tank situation. And per usual, they resort to oneshots.. Devs, if you read this, oneshots aren't an answer to bad design. Deal with it like a proper game studio. Don't take the easy way out

Hot take: if you're teammate is a one-trick and the game is going poorly, insted of egging them on to switch when they clearly won't, you should try switching to something that complements that hero's playstyle. Then they might actually bring some value to the team which will help more than counting on your team enough to make up for that player even if it's something you're uncomfortable with. That way you're at least able to say that you tried rather than just taking the L by continuing with something that clearly wasn't working. This is comming from a player that've realised that switching for your team is just as effective if not more than switching to counter the enemy. Go brig if you lose because your zen always dies first to dives or flanks. Go lifeweaver if your doom charges into 5 cc:s alone every fight. Go ball if you have a reddit lucio who refuses to play with the team. And so on and so forth.

i disagree for a multitude of reasons, but this logic doesn't make sense. why would the team all swap to comfort the one trick, instead of them swapping to synergize with the team? especially this last bit, because should the one trick not be acknowledging what they are doing isn't working? this logic also doesn't make sense, because for all of 2, people have been desperately trying to one trick and/or get rid of swapping in the first place. nobody is swapping to help anyone if everyone is just encouraged to never change heroes. just gets everyone in the mindset everyone else should cater to them

@@silverYolo Wrong. Tank swaps are not the only effective method. All other players have agency. Still waiting for my dps one trick to swap. Still waiting for my counter swapped sombra to learn the hero instead if throwing w/ no utility. Funny how the popular solution is to bully the enemy tank in play and their own in comms.

Good take! I agree, Its all about what you can do to contribute to the fight. The game is a lot easier and fun now that I have more heroes under my belt. Obviously I still have my mains per role. Its good to have that. But learning more heroes and playstyles also helps with game awareness and gives you more options, even if other players are stubborn. You yourself can play into what they're already good at, thus making better team chemistry. Don't have to be a jack of all trades or anything. I have at least 1 poke, brawl, and dive hero I like to play. Im just gold in comp, but this mindset did help me grow as a player

​@@silverYolo I'm not saying the one-trick shouldn't swap, nor am I saying that the entire team has to cater to a single player's needs. What I'm saying is that they're most of the time not going to switch and telling them to or directing your frustration at them won't change a thing. It's up to you as an individual to make that change because you're the only one you can control, and not being stubborn can make the difference between winning or losing the game (This applies to one-tricks as well, but that's beside the point). Helping them go from zero to some value can make a world of difference, especially since one-tricks are usually pretty good at that specific hero but could, for instance, get zero value since they're hard countered. Switching to Mercy when you get a Pharah, distracting the backline during a tank trade, or following a dive are simple examples that will change the outcome of many fights and games. Understanding what the problems are and having the mechanics and game-sense to alleviate them by adjusting your playstyle or playing another hero is a skill that will bring out the most in your team. I think that is something that often gets overshadowed by individual plays, especially since some games are unreasonable to be able to solo carry, such as those where your tank gets hard countered and refuses to switch. In those cases, you're going to have to improvise to have a chance of winning.

Hot take: Counterwatch only exists if you giving to it. I often play Doom into Sombra Cass Orisa and still win games. Time and experience with a hero will always have a better chance to win than a enemy tank swap to a hero they don't know how to play

EDIT: If being used, can you hide my name? Hot Take: SOME HEROS NEED TO BE BAD FOR THE GAME TO FEEL GOOD. Examples: Doom, Hog, Widow, Mercy, LW (Maybe a few more) As a doom main, I disliked Doom meta for the 2 weeks back in season 2. He isn't a fun hero to play against. Moth meta, was unfun. I just dislike when I have a bunch of mercy one tricks complain Mercy is "unplayable" (even tho I see her in like everyone top 500 gameplay I watch). It's like, yeah, of course shes unplayable bc if she was meta or even slightly good, everyone would despise the game and turn away for that season. I mean you saw how many ppl complained about doom being meta and he got GUTTED IMMEDIATLY. TL:DR Not every hero can be good and it's best for the overall health of the game if some of those hero's stay bad. I'd rather plsy 10 seasons of Double shield again before 1 season of Moth meta. (Obviously that last part's an opinion, but my message is there)
