This is a very ironic, well-made villain defeat. Think about it: Kars has murdered his entire race, lost the only allies he had left, all in his mad pursuit for immortality. And when you think about it, he actually won. He gained immortality. Not even a damn volcano could stop him, not at first. He could have just gone on and done...whatever it is you do when you become immortal, but no, he just HAD to go and kill Joseph. And to top it off, now he’s in space, all alone, painfully frozen. At least when he was imprisoned in stone he was asleep, not aware of his surroundings, not to mention he had company. And after all that time of chasing immortality, the same day he gets it, he doesn’t want it anymore. A very fitting end, if you ask me. Is it really any wonder that he stopped thinking? (On that note, I actually like the dub’s take on that line: “The spark of thought within him went dim, and then, silent.” No, it’s not as direct as, “Eventually Kars stopped thinking”, but it is more poetic, and pretty frightening if you think about it.)

The best part about this is that Araki gave him a pretty tame death. Because there's no air pressure in space, the amount of heat needed to boil liquid is much, much lower. This includes bodily fluids like blood, sweat, and such. Realistically, Kars would be burning alive forever under his own skin, because he can't die. And if we assume he perpetually regenerates his wounds due to his powers, the forever part isn't an exaggeration, everything required for him to feel pain will constantly renew itself, so his slow drift through space is like spending an eternity inside a cremation oven and feeling every second of it. Its even worse if you consider the possibility he drifts near the atmosphere of a gas giant where he's freezing forever, but torn apart by supersonic-force toxic winds, among other things. Space is heccing scary.

Josh Silver I don't understand the complete story behind the arrows because it's possibly the most convoluted thing in the entire canon involving resurrecting lovecraftian monstrosities, but the arrows are entirely alien in origin, their stand granting properties come from alien microbes that reside in the material. In space, I don't think Venus or even the Sun woud've been able to destroy him. He turned to Half-animal, half-mineral (According to japanese dub), meaning his body turned at least partly as hard and dense as a diamond, which is known to survive extreme temperatures of heat and pressure. Only thing that could destroy him is a black hole, where pressure is enough to rip atoms apart.

Actually it is impossible for him to hit the sun. His initial orbiting velocity from being on earth would make him miss the sun. Even if he was on a trajectory to the sun, he would slingshot very close to the sun and escape the solar system which would happen anyway. In order for him to hit the sun, he needs an initial speed of 0 mph which was not the case, or if he was unaffected by gravity, which is also not the case.
