The noise 50 021 is making as it pulls away from Salisbury is just perfect! Very enjoyable video, these are the gifts that keep on giving.

Really glad you’re enjoying the collection David. It’s wonderful to be able to see and hear 50s in full voice after all these years isn’t it? Oh, how I miss them! Thank you for the brilliant comment.

So many memories of bashing/spotting in the mid 80s. The only thing missing was 47901. I used to watch those 33s on the Pompeys from a young age at South Newton (near Wilton) from my aunties house. Happy days.

Thank you for another great comment SMcS. I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and that we’re able to bring back such great memories for you. I’ve forgotten the story behind 47901! Did they convert it from a normal 47 as a test bed for the class 59s?
@SpoonyMcSpoonface Жыл бұрын
It was 47046 and was converted into a class 56 testbed as 47601. It was then converted into a class 58 testbed as 47901. It still looked like a 47 but sounded very different.

I knew it was a test bed for something but I couldn’t remember what. Thanks for your explanation SMcS.

Really glad you enjoyed it John. Are they ideas for modelling you’re referring to?

@Trains, Railways, Railroads & Travel KARTWHEELKARL I must admit, I didn't know Class 66 ran with BR Blue Diesels. I'm planning a late 80's Diesel Yard with 33's 37's 72'. And lots of Yellow Maintenance wagons. Looking at your videos help me with that. Cheers

@@johnwigington2434 I can’t be sure without looking back through the footage John, but I think the Foster Yeoman locos featured in this video are class 59s. They were the GM forerunners of the class 66 and, if I remember rightly, only four were bought. When they entered service back in the eighties, they were seen as exciting. Little did we know how ubiquitous GM products would become!

We picked the wrong day there in February 87 but at least a 45 turned up on vans from Taunton.

Great video 👍🏻 who would of thought in 86 class 66 wow be the staple diet of Britains 🇬🇧 railways lol 🤣

In those days of course with no Realtime Trains it was pure luck when a freight would appear. You'd have to keep an eye on the signals to see if something was expected.

Absolutely Andrei. It made us patient and increased the air of anticipation didn’t it? Sad to think that the kids of today will never be able to experience that thrill.

Excellent archive, a tripod would have made all the difference, sadly the rail scene today seems very sterile.

Fair point about the tripod Amazonia, but that could well have been the final straw that caused Alan’s bike to topple over!! Really pleased you’re enjoying the collection.

@@kartwheelkarlAs a former Westbury driver I would often see people filming on the station but it is only more recently since retirement, i have had more time to indulge in u tube, and thanks to people like yourself posting there recordings, I can relive the era like many others from the comfort of my armchair.

I wonder where those 8 and 9 coach formations with the class 33s were to/from? (and one with GUVs front and rear.) They were longer than the regular Portsmouth-Cardiff formations.

And who was to know them 59s would be the blueprint for the 66s to take over the world and make it as boring as hell

Strange to think Ricky that, back in 86, we would go out of our way and stand around to have the chance of seeing one!! If only we knew eh?
