Well in order to receive feedback you need people to see your stuff. Posting online doesn't mean tons of people will instantly react to it. I think that's the most discouraging thing for young artists : putting their work out there and not having any feedback for the first few months. It feels like you're talking to a wall.
@KaseyTheGolden6 жыл бұрын
Posting on your social media, sure, but if you go to a community where people are there for that exact reason, I think it will help! You have to SEARCH and WORK for help, not just sit there and expect it to come to you. Similar to success.
@lillyfoot196 жыл бұрын
If social media is the place young artists are looking, dedicating time to a few helps getting people interested. I’ve been told that Twitter is where all the art directors and editors are while followings are build in places like Instagram or KZbin. Not necessarily only those places but you get the idea.

Followings are something that grows because you take time and effort to make it grow. Most big followings you see took time to grow and it was when the right person joins and shares that the following gets bigger. Your following isn’t small because no one likes it and that the first thing I think people need to remember. It’s small cause there are thousands if not millions of people with active user accounts and one person with a few followers can be hard to find. It’s not because no one likes your work. We live in a big world. ❤️ we’ll get there!
@kurlykayla90136 жыл бұрын
CrowDraws, the point is multi-form. For some, it's to get their name out there. For others, the point is to make connections. For some others still, the point is to create personal accountability and discipline, because once you get an audience, it's hard to fall off the wagon when people are expecting you to produce. Point being, there are many reasons why one would want to post online, and no, not all of those reasons amount to seeking validation. It can be a learning tool for growth for many. If it's not for you, that's okay, but don't put down others who do it :)
@KaseyTheGolden6 жыл бұрын
Never said you can't make art without posting it, and I never said no one interacts with it. The original comment said 3 likes was depressing, and I say you don't need to be popular to enjoy posting your art. TBH I think I'm done replying here because you don't seem to be reading what is being said... Sorry.

Just a little story of how posting my art online helped me: I had to do an internship for school and I had no idea where i would like to do it. My friend was liking a picture on my instagram account and her mom walked in. She saw the piece and asked her who drew that. She emailed me if i would like to do my internship at her buisness (she is a kind of graphic designer) and it was the perfect opportunity for me. So I did my internship there and actually designed some stuff for real buissnesses and they used MY work and it was just amazing! she also told me about a school and stuff and now I am really interested in that job. So don't be intimidated by Haters or stuff like that. Just start posting and maybe something like this will happen to you too! It won't destroy your life to post "bad" art or something like that. that internship helped me so much to get an idea of what I want to do with my life. Thanks for reading

That is a totally rational fear! And in the beginning sometimes that’s exactly what will happen! But like I wrote in another comment, followings take time and effort to grow. Some times we get the short end of the stick and the first people who find us are trolls, so make friend with said trolls! Joke with them and get them interested in what you’re passionate about and they’ll start to care too. You’re not gonna win everyone over but you can do your best to make a following out of whats given to you. Then when they care about you, they’ll want to share they’re stories about this cool artist they found. It’ll take a lot of time to make friends and gain a following and mean comments will always be there but that shouldn’t make you feel like you can’t do it. Draw what you love and keep doing it and you’ll get there!

(Trying to help not being mean) The fire drawing at 5:15, if you would like some criticism I have some. If you wanted to make the fire more realistic looking, it would work if you put the yellow where you put the red and the red where you put the yellow. because flames normally get darker as the spread out from the source, rather than getting lighter. Hope this helps! :D Love your channel!

Kasey maybe this seems pretentious of me, but what if your art gets stolen. That's the scariest thing to me, not getting no likes or people being like "your art sucks." I'm scared i'll get comfortable posting my art, sharing it with my little bubble and being ok it that bubble grows bigger... but then someone stealing my work and making money off it or claiming it as their own getting tons of praise when it's actually mine and i just wanted to share and ... it backfired. Do you ever have problems like that ? I mean i can recognize your style like HEY THAT'S KASEY but for me... I'm still... budding and my fear of sharing is theft making me feel like.. I'm a fraud because someone else promoted my work with their name

Honestly, as someone who prides myself on giving constructive criticism as often as possible, but it can result in someone misunderstanding what I was trying to say and people fighting over whether or not I was attacking the artist or being constructive. The bigger the person's following, the harder it is for not only critiques to reach them, but its harder not to be attacked for doing it. This actually became a problem recently with Sara Tepes, where people both giving constructive and non-constructive criticism on some things she needs to improve upon were being attacked by fans and got clustered together into one group of "haters". I got lumped in with them just because I suggested she work on more variation in faces and practice drawing men. I'd almost feel "safer" being able to PM artists with followings or some other way I can reach them more directly with less fans pushing my words into a big cluster of comments.

I definitely think it's something every artist should at least give a shot because sometimes we THINK we're really closed about our work and don't want anyone to see it when in reality we just want to share it with like-minded people, but we might not have such people around us in rls. ;)

I already have an art account on insta, but my issue is 2 things: 1. My mom wants it to be private, and having an art account that nobody can see is honestly useless. 2. She constantly promotes several things on her page, that sounds great, no? Well actually, it’s that I have a lil pet peeve when it comes to shoutouts from my mom, and it’s a little personal, so to keep it short, she basically shoutouts drawings that I do not care about/do not want to focus on. So yeah, if anyone (for some reason) sees this comment, can you please give me advice on this situation? Thanks :-)

Um, so I have a piece of criticism if you want: Sometimes I feel that your colors, might be, um, bland? I feel like you use a lot of dark colors... Um, but yeah. Um, that's my piece of criticism

Starfox Stellar laughing my head off at how nervous you got when critiquing 😂 don’t worry though, I totally get it I’m the exact same way.

I’m not afraid of criticism I just always feel like my art isn’t there yet like post worthy. And I don’t feel like I could keep it up.

I actually started posting my art online a long time ago.. when I used circle tool and my art was soooo cringe, but people told me: "Cute!!" "You could improve (Something) keep practicing!!!" I got soo happy about the comments and I started to practice!! I think I improved, if I didn't post that drawings I think I wouldn't be drawing now :D

I think a thing that you can improve on is your hands. Other than that your art is really cute. I honestly love your style!

Thank you for upload this, I was scared of making my Twitter profile public, the place where I post my art, and this made me change my mind.

I want to post my art online, but there's two big reasons stopping me. I do traditional work, and i don't have a good camera or scanner so that I can post it online. Second, I'm incredibly shy and worried about negativity, not criticism exactly, but like the trolls, because I know it'll hurt my feelings even if it's a stupid comment. (I hesitated even writing this comment). So I'm probably never going to post my art. Sigh...

I don’t know if you still stand by your comment but I would still post your art online if I were you. Your art is probably way better than you think and you definitely won’t get a lot of hate while starting on social media. Core Concept: the few people that actually care enough to comment on your art will have good things to say about it

Hi Kasey! I wanted to ask: what if the #1 problem you're dealing with it's that there's no feedback at all? I've been struggling with this for years now, and I don't really mean favourites (they've been going up lately, to be honest) but comments, critiques, etc. I've tried everything I can think of, from posting in high visit hours, groups , explicitly asking... Most times I'm either ignored or I get a "looks nice" or just an "ok". It's frustrating, leaves you confused as to why this might happen, and the main fuel to my fear of even trying to draw anything complex enough to actually post in the first place :( I feel this might be extremely similar to the post I did back on the video about fear, but I find myself jumping back and forth between short high confidence points and long terrible self steem ones.

I think an Amino strictly for Critiquing could be super helpful

Really, thank you for making this video. I become more motivated and I realize what I did wrong this whole time. Also, I love your work, it's not perfect, but it suits my style ^^

The last time I posted my art(film photography, hand developed) online, I found out that there is another photographer with the same name as me, different middle name, though. His boss sent me a "cease and desist" letter, until it became clear that my middle name is Paul, while his is Peter, and our styles were quite different.
