This video shows a nice Kastle 1.5 + Kastle Drum patch. Audio is being collected out of the Bastl Instruments Dude mixer and then sent out the Korg NTS-1 for some reverb. Patch details are given below. Also, at the start of the video I give a quick update re: the next main video (about the Korg NTS-2 Oscilloscope). I wasn't really planning this Kastle video but I thought the patch I was working on turned out nice: too long for a Short, not really enough to it for a walkthrough of the patch or a tutorial, it doesn't really fit as a Delta Waves video, but I still wanted to share the sounds of the original video that I captured. Thanks a lot for watching!
PATCH NOTES:
AUDIO: KD Main Out to Dude In 1. K1.5 Main Out to Dude In 2. Dude Out to NTS1 Audio In. NTS-1 set to Plate Reverb. NTS-1 Out to the recorder.
KASTLE 1.5: stepped-pitchMod, squareLFO-timbreMod, triLFO-Waveshape, PLUS-bitIN
KASTLE DRUM: pattern-drumMod, pattern-pitchMod, LFO-CLK_IN(!?), CLK-trigIn, PLUS-feed, Noises-Drums,
CROSSOVER: CLK(drum)-lfoRst(1.5), pattern(drum)-waveshape(1.5),
note: knob settings given as a time (hhmm), with the knob indicator set as if it is the hour hand of a 12-hour analog clock at the given time.
DRUM KNOBS: drumMod(0300), pitchMod(1200), tempoMod(minimum), decay(0130), drum(0900), pitch(minimum), tempo(1130-1145 or whatever seems right),
1.5 KNOBS: pitchMod(1000), timbreMod(0900), rateMod(minimum), waveshape(minimum), pitch(0800-0830, going up to max and back can be a sort of riser/drop), timbre(0900, higher for more metallic/fm sounds, lower for ?/hard to describe), rate(1200, but a main parameter to change in this. when it's lower there are some nice slower surges, higher starts to get into sort of dubstep wobble-bass sounds... the main sound I'm referring to in the video, a sort of harmonic/formant/sample-and-hold-filter sound - even though the Kastle 1.5 has no filter - happens at a setting around 1100)
TIMELINE
00:00 CHANNEL STINGER
NOTE: R.I.P. Kokonut the goldfish. 5+ years. He was the last of the fish, so the tank is gone now. I've never been a 'fish guy' (my dad and my brother are), but I did it anyway. It was a good experience, and they have always been a part of the Undulations theme of waves and water. The original tank roster was: Kokonut, Gary, Z3, Biggie, and Smalls.

Short discussion about the next video and the Kastle duo patch that I show.
04:03 Kastle 1.5 + Kastle Drum Jam
My favorite part is the last 45 seconds or so. I think the musicality of this patch can be extended by trying to lump all of the melodic lines into one of the little sequencers, i.e. use stepped to run the drum pattern too and use the other 1.5 LFO's to take over for the Drum clock and LFO. This could free up the Drum's clock, LFO, and pattern to run at a slower tempo, perhaps leading to something like some chord changes in a longer song.

If you could only use 5 instruments for the rest of your life, which ones would they be

Interesting to think about. I'll assume you mean physical instruments as well, I'll limit it to things I own or have played before, and I won't suggest that a modular setup is one instrument. 1) A piano/keyboard, I guess I'd pick my Casio Privia. 2) A hand drum. Maybe an LP conga or Remo kanjira (a tiny drum but I really like it). 3) Some sort of pipe/flute. I like a low Irish whistle, but I think I'd go with a Basque-tuned tabor pipe (txistu). 4) Makenoise 0-Coast. Love the sound and functionality. The Privia would work as a midi controller. 5) Ableton Live? Is this an instrument? Not sure. The Privia as controller here too. If not allowed then something pretty deep, maybe able to do granular synthesis. Digitakt? Digitone? Norns? MicroFreak? SP-404 (would like to learn fingerdrumming, etc) I have the SX but a mark ii would be preferrable. Thoughts? I think about things I've used on the channel over the last 5 years: Kastle 1.5, Kastle Drum, Volca Modular, Model:Samples, Model:Cycles, Digitone, Strega, etc. They are super nice, but I guess I see the thought experiment in terms of what I'd really miss. Like I would really miss playing the kalimba. And, mind, I'm not particularly good at any of the physical instruments. And I'd miss doing some sort of patching, hence the 0-Coast. And something fairly bottomless like Ableton or Norns (maybe that's cheating, idk). Anyway, an interesting question, thanks for posing it, and for watching!

Your videos are always so worth watching. They get me off my arse & inspire me to unpack a synth or two & make some noise. So thank you for this one as well. Now, here's an interesting thing to try: Get one of your SQ-1s, set to to sequencer mode #2 Take a mono-stereo splitter and feed both CVA & GateA to the Drum I/O socket Patch both L & R to TRIG (Obviously additional patching will make for more interesting noises & rhythms)

Many thanks🙏🏼! I started in on this setup because I thought I might play locally at an informal meetup, wanted to do something I was familiar with. I ended up not going to the event but it still seemed sort of fresh, good for a quick discussion. Thanks again for watching!

Thanks very much, I really appreciate that! There is a sense, sometimes, of a patch like "congealing". In this case I started with a patch that I had used a few days earlier, rebuilt that from scratch, modified the patching, and spent at least another hour trying different ideas for parameter settings. Listening to it after a few days I started to think that one of the main reasons I liked it was the drums, which I don't even remember mentioning in the video. Anyway, I guess I'm just trying to say that it can be sort of a mysterious process. Many thanks again for the feedback!

And Bastl are very good at making these machines that reward both carefully-considered exploration and chance moves and have that element of indeterminacy built in that can really get me lost in a looping-yet-never-exactly-the-same sound stream.
