Kat Ashley, born around 1502, was an indispensable figure in the life of Queen Elizabeth I of England. As Elizabeth's governess and close confidante, Ashley played a crucial role in shaping the young princess's education and character. While lesser-known in the annals of history, her influence on the Tudor court, especially on Elizabeth, cannot be understated. Under Ashley's guidance, Elizabeth received an exceptional education for women of the time, studying subjects like Latin, Greek, and the sciences. Beyond academics, Kat's unwavering support was pivotal during Elizabeth's turbulent early years, especially during the reign of Queen Mary I. Their bond remained strong until Ashley died in 1565, ending a relationship that had weathered political storms and personal trials. Her legacy is a testament to a dedicated educator's profound impact on their pupil.

Katherine Ashley became the true mother that Elizabeth Tudor so desperately needed. If it weren't for her presence, I really think that Elizabeth Tudor's life would have taken a completely different, possibly worse, journey than would have been good or necessary for her. I believe that God deliberately chose Kat Ashley to be the replacement mother for Elizabeth Tudor in order to make possible her long-term reign of England. Mary Tudor had too many personal issues to make a good Queen quite frankly. She would have ruined England completely. 🇬🇧

Personal issues? Lets see, she was ripped out of her mothers arms, declared a bastard, made to be a servant to her little sister, who was born to the woman who took her mothers place as The Queen of England, and all while her mother, whom she still could not see, died a slow painful, lonesome death, disgraced and alone. All the while, a new religion taking over the country, brought on by her fathers marriage to "The Concubine". Id have issues too! Would you not?

Thankyou for the story on Kat Ashley, although she was a constant in Elizabeths life at the beginning I never knew she was there until she died. I'm sure she was sorely missed by by everyone she came in contact with.

As she was always considered a lady and therefore of noble birth - who else would be chosen to serve the infant Elizabeth. Odd that there are queries of parentage and no one seemed to worry themselves about it. Just odd for the times when people were so ingrained in their noble lines and positions at court. Interesting, thank you 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

That first image of Elizabeth is so hauntingly beautiful... She has so much of Anne's characteristics with a Tudor backdrop. When I close my eyes this is the image as close to my imagination. A soft beautiful faced child with eyes so dark and serious they could see a into a mans soul.

I shudder to think about what might have happened to Elizabeth I if Ashley hadn’t called Thomas Seymour out for trying to groom the young Elizabeth in order to possibly seduce her (when he already had a wife living) who was Elizabeth’s beloved stepmother. Even though her intervention saved Elizabeth from sexual abuse and the ruin of her reputation which was so necessary to keep spotless in order for her to reign as queen in the future it put up an unfortunate barrier between Elizabeth and Katherine Parr who were the ultimate losers in that situation, but Ashley loved Elizabeth as if she’d been her own child and went into full Mama Bear mode. Never once did her love, loyalty and devotion falter during the dangerous days they shared together before Mary I died and Elizabeth ascended to the throne. Few if any monarchs were so blessed to have a companion who always spoke truth to them and kept them from doing rash or imprudent things just because they could do what they wanted with impunity. Kay Ashley was Elizabeth’s mother figure, confidant and wise unofficial counselor.

I noticed that Henry VIII’s resemblance was more Jon Rhys Meyers in 'The Tudors', than the actual Henry, and that Catherine Parr looked more like Jessica Raines’ portrayal in 'Becoming Elizabeth'. Nice touch.😉
