It did. there's still a way to go. I had surgery to remove lesions from my vocal cords a couple of years ago and this has affected my speaking and singing voice, making them hoarse and weak. At the time I was provided with very brief speech therapy session and a printed sheet describing similar exercises, but I'm sorry to say I let things lapse. In my book, nothing beats imitation and I really like the way you explain these drills, so I am determined to give my voice another chance to improve and it seems likely that your exercises will be very beneficial. Thank you.

It's interesting how i can sing for hours without straining my voice but just 5 minutes of reading aloud strangles me. I guess it's because I don't know how to supporty speaking by my chest and uses my throat instead.

I lost my speech over 2 months. All tests for stroke, EMG came back normal. They are baffled. I can feel my soft palate isn't working properly. I cannot blow out through mouth only - such as whistling. I am going through all of your videos so I can strengthen my soft palate. Thank you for all you do - I am hoping they can figure out my issue soon!

Thank you again, Katarina. Your exercises are helping and I plan on signing up for your monthly service. Meanwhile, a question...and I realize it may be hard to answer, depending on one's exact condition. But let me say I'm a dedicated singer-songwriter and I have a whopping case of MTD, for sure. I have MTD in spite of being a well trained singer. I think it is my speaking voice that is the culprit, not necessarily my singing. . My question is, how many times per day should I do these exercises to encourage healing? All the best to you!
@healthyvoicetips
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
It is very individual how often. Everyone needs something else. It also depends on the type of exercise and whether it is beneficial to the person. But generally speaking (without knowing any details about you), the more frequent short sessions (a few minutes long) throughout the day, the better. If you found an exercise that feels really good because it can release tension (which feels good), why wouldn't you do it several times a day? But of course, if you are a busy person and you may not be able to dedicate the time, then do as much as you can (if it's only a few minutes a day, then that's what you can do but of course, the progress will be slower).

Hi Katarina. My thought hurts when I speak and sing..and the voice is squeaky when aspecially I am worrying. Thank you very much!
@healthyvoicetips
@healthyvoicetips 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your vocal troubles. Regarding teeth grinding, consult a dentist, they may have good advice or they can even create a night guard to prevent you from grinding your teeth. Regarding the tension in your jaw, becoming aware of it and jaw massage should progressively help. But I feel that there is more to your problem than that. I highly recommend that you have your voice assessed by a laryngologist so that you know what is going on at the level of the vocal folds. Once you know, you can then receive appropriate care that you deserve.

Hi Katrina. Great video! Thank you! Are you supposed to take breaths during each exercise or just make the sound on just one breath?

Good question! When you are sustaining the sounds, try to do it on one breath but you don't need to break records. When you are doing sirens, breathe in as needed.

I’ve found my neck muscles getting tight when talking sometimes and have a hoarse voice quite often if not all the time I also feel like I have a dry mouth and postnasal drip a lot so I need to go and get it checked with my gp but after doing these exercises I find it easier to talk on my muscles but my voice sounds quite hoarse afterwards is this something that would be normal?
@healthyvoicetips
@healthyvoicetips 8 ай бұрын
If your voice sounds hoarse after doing vocal exercise, then you are probably not doing them in the way they are intended to be. If you are dealing with voice issues, I suggest that you have your voice checked by a laryngologist and then maybe you will be recommended voice therapy. Working with a voice therapist can be helpful in finding the "right" way to do vocal exercises.

When I do the "NG" exercise my voice cuts off at the mid pitch. When I do the exercise covering the mouth, the sound goes up and down. I'm in real bad shape. Why does this happen?
@healthyvoicetips
@healthyvoicetips Жыл бұрын
It is very common for the voice to cut off at mid pitch if this is your first time doing it. This is a skill that needs to be practiced. Basically, what is happening, there is a switch in the mechanism of making different sound of different pitches and there is a specific place in the range where this happens. "Push" less or use less air when going through this point. For the third exercise, use less breath/air to make the sound. By covering your mouth, you may be creating too much back pressure that affects the length of the vocal folds and changes the pitch. I hope this helps.

Coughing means that you are using too much effort. Ease on the air you are using as well as on the muscle effort you use to produce the sound. In your case, less is better. You seem to be trying too hard.
