I surprised my mother a couple of times while I was in the military. It's important to remember that different from many other countries (Korea specifically in this example) we volunteer and are RARELY living anywhere near where we can visit our families. Also, when we are deployed it is overseas for months if not years. I only went on one deployment, and it was from march to end of November. Other than that I only lived in the same state as my family for about a year and a half out of my 10 years in. Otherwise I was anywhere from a 7 hour drive to a 7 hour flight away (and that was all me being stationed in the continental US). I think a more relatable example is if you have a family member living abroad that you barely see that came and surprised you out of nowhere and that you feared for their safety.

I can't help but cry with these videos. Literally, neither of my parents was gone for military reasons, but my mom is still overseas and anytime I see a homecoming, I think of my own mother, or my own dad back when I lived with my mom.

I don’t have girls, but as a father, I could tell you that if I did have girls, nothing would stop me from protecting those girls. Nothing stop me from protecting my boys. I don’t know what I would do if I had girls.

The families and the returning soldier are the best. Sadly, our government doesn't give a dang about our military once they are out of the service. Our veterans who need medical (physical and mental) are given the run around. Those doctors and nurses become desensitized to them because their hands are tied (for the most part) as to what they can do.

I highly respect our soldiers so first off I just want to say I'm not disrespecting saying this out of curiosity. What's the point of getting a girlfriend or getting a family kids and then go in the military where you could die? I have never in my life understood that. I feel like it's better to go into the army single it's like I love you hun but I'm going to go off and possibly die
@TheGreatDetectiveKnows

I'm guessing it's just something that happens. I don't think it's that calculated. I mean I agree, part of serving your country is giving up those things, but hey if you can find a partner willing to make those commitments to you and are willing to wait, more power to them. That's why I think the family members need to be praised and respected as well. A lot of these are mothers raising their kids alone in constant fear. It's commendable that they are remaining faithful and waiting instead of doing the easy thing, which like you said would be to agree to call it off and move on. There is beauty in sacrifice. If your husband wants to fight, I think supporting him is a kind thing. That is the point of a marriage after all.

@ADOPTEDorpha yeah, And Hitler too and all the serial killers. All fathers, sons, brothers and humans What's your point here?
@TheGreatDetectiveKnows
@TheGreatDetectiveKnows Жыл бұрын
Even in the case of murderers, there is intrinsic beauty in family and being reunited with your family, regardless of how immoral or unethical they may have been. Nobody is sinless. Not saying it's okay, but just saying it doesn't make these reunions any less beautiful - we can all relate on a smaller level, and that's why it's emotional, it's part of the human experience. Hearing the story of even Hitler mourning for his mother still makes me emotional. I have love for everyone. If we can dismiss beauty and people because of something they are doing, well, personally, I do not think I am God or equipped to make that sort of judgment. You can be critical of western governments and still see the value in family. Even you have a mother and a father that I'm sure you love deeply.
