What a treat! Xena kept me sane in the 1990s and helped me deal with my sexuality. That show also reignited my love of writing as I got sucked in to the fanfic scene which led to other things. Fast forward nearly 30 years and I've teamed up with an old archaeology colleague to write a seven book teen YA archaeological action adventure series with a strong female lead set in the United Arab Emirates (where we excavated together in the 90s). We use real archaeology and have designed it to inspire Emirati teens to learn more about the ancient cultures of the area and broaden their English vocab - most Emirati parents like their kids to learn English as a second language and are desperate for reads their kids can relate to. So, thank you Lucy for being there at the right time in my life to stick me on a path where I now get to help and motivate the next generation and potentially make a few archaeologists!

Great episode you and Lucy are two of the actors. I respect a lot not just because the genre you cover because the actor that you are and the people you are, my brother loves Formula One so it didn’t bother me. You talked about 20 minutes. You also talked with the hotel, which is surprising cause every time I wanna go to convention in Vegas, but at the last minute, I can’t afford it or whatever but that’s space. We always tell me to go the tower. It’s nice to hear about it. I might go one of these days. Thanks. I learned a lot from the show about Lucy and about the character, she plays and the production never look away. I would’ve never heard about that one for your show and I was always a fan of the old BSG show, but I’m always been a fan of yours from that to Longmire to Star Wars Mandalorian, it’s all good. I hope you get me on Star Trek sometime. Hopefully Jonathan will get you on there should be a great teacher for the new Star Trek Academy show. I think let’s hope you get there then you’ll be on all the major sci-fi franchises. You deserve if anybody does thanks for the fun until next time

Lucy played a very dark character with D'anna 3, I think she was the darkest cylon while cavil 1 was mostly motivated by bitterness and resentment D'anna seemed to enjoy all the murder, she was psychotically fixated with death to the point she became fixated on killing herself over and over, having to play a character like that is probably a bit of a buzz killer, emotionally draining at least so probably hard to look back at to fondly..

The dark-dark-dark point Lucy was making you get since as you said, going from Longmire to BSG might have been a lot more difficult than the reverse. Her second point though - that's a criticism I understand. I've noticed that in a lot of shows that become successful around the year 2-3 mark actors start families. They are in a secure enough financial and professional space to do that. But on BSG, where for a lot of actors your character could be dead tomorrow, literally tomorrow as Lucy said since they made such a priority of script security, that sense of security would be impossible. Half the cast is living with a sense of constant dread not knowing if they might be there for another couple seasons or if in 24 hours they'll be unemployed. It's a common practice on shows, but it seems abusive, and like she said, is it really necessary? Why not tell people "we're bringing you back next season but only for the first 9 episodes". That way people can make or not make life plans knowing when they will need a new job.

This one felt a bit awkward. Having stuck around through the end, the vibe makes a lot more sense as it was attached to a press tour vs. a standalone friend chat. Some good moments of course, but it wasn't the easy flowing humor one would get out of a convention talk. Might be worth another go at this interview when it's not focused on this one topic. Lucy has done such a variety of different roles. How did it feel going from the hero to the dark and mystical self-terminating for enlightenment side for her BSG character? What brought on her Euro Trip and Spiderman cameos? How did she feel about playing Lucretia in Spartacus? Vicious, vulnerable, conniving, betrayed and betrayer. What about Parks & Rec? My Life is Murder and re-uniting with her Xena co-star? She touched on different vibes working in different regions. More on that would be interesting. I didn't realize she'd gotten busted up and injured so badly. That's terrible. You mentioned that you too have taken a lot of abuse. Is the industry getting better at safety? How does that get covered? Totally out of pocket and your responsibility or do you get some type of group insurance as an actor? I remember your interview with your Longmire costar where the intimacy coordinator talk came up. Has more awareness and safety measures come into play now vs. when you both started or are there still giant gaping safety holes? Hooray for no sales tax in Oregon.

My take on Lucy Lawless' comments wasn't the same, but I'm very sensitive to people's energy. She voiced the same things that were my reasons for not continuing into Ron Moore's BSG. It was a much darker story. It's like the difference between the first Star Wars trilogy that I loved when I was in my 20s and the prequels that led up to the original Star Wars movie. The prequels were darker in tone because it was the story of Darth Vader becoming Darth Vader as opposed to heroes doing heroic things. I also know that people who are highly intuitive don't miss a thing. I have no doubt Ron Moore is a saint when it comes to TV. The Outlander cast love him dearly. However, it only takes one person with a very bad attitude to interact with someone; then they notice every instance of that one bad person behaving badly and how that behavior affects everyone. Lucy also mentioned people talking about thinking she could become a regular and keep someone else who was already in the cast from getting more episodes. I would think that would be a very specifically Lucy Lawless only experience; especially if she was very sensitive to other people's energy. Hope some people send you cool Princess Peach Formula 1 t-shirts and such!😊You didn't mention what size they should be though.
