Sharon Stone is known for portraying a certain type of brash, cunning villain, like Catharine Tramell in “Basic Instinct,” Lori Quad in “Total Recall,” or, more recently, Lenore Osgood in the Netflix series “Ratched.” In reality though, Sharon Stone is shy and introverted and, despite her fame, has led a very private life. But now, the actor is in the midst of a very public and personal re-examination of that life in her memoir, “The Beauty of Living Twice.” On this episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, Katie and Sharon talk about the trauma she has endured, from being molested as a child, to the sexual harassment in Hollywood, to the stroke that nearly killed her in 2001 (and the interview Katie did with Sharon nearly 20 years ago). They also talk about the memoir writing process, life under the glare of the spotlight, and finding a new sisterhood - and inspiration - in the movie industry, post #MeToo. For more information about “The Beauty of Living Twice,” by Sharon Stone, or where to buy your copy go to Penguin Random House.

After reading this book I can never see Sharon Stone in the same way. Her life events, happenings in Hollywood, rise to fame, health, and relationship issues all shed light on her strength of spirit and sheer unfathomable quest to own her life, speak her truth and blaze her trail. A great summer read for sure. She's absolutely indestructible along with brains, guts, beauty, insightfulness and the desire to help others. I suspect the best is yet to come for Sharon Stone.

God, I love this woman and am so proud of her for all she does. Thank you for interviewing her, Katie....from a 66-year-old fan loving her solo life somewhere in the middle of a forest outside of Olympia, WA, USA.

I'm just shocked. I did not know she felt so abused by the movie industry. When I saw Basic Instinct, I was like 'Oh wow, this actress must be pretty free spirited.' Now knowing what really happened behind the scenes, I feel like I never should've liked that movie. Stay strong Sharon. We are all rooting for you.

Wow - I always thought she must have dealt with what she has….. Hollywood has always been MADE of Weinsteins - her roles as gorgeous women characters would have to come at a price in that culture… One reason I loved her role in Casino - true to life for most beautiful women being exploited by powerful men… ever heard ‘It’s a man’s world’ - why I loved her role in Basic Instinct - but that was fiction…. 😉

I had a stroke in my 20's and thirties, and a heart attack in my 40's, along with numerous other overlapping medical conditions. Now at 65 there are still those medical conditions, but I'm still here and have all my faculties. It's taken years to understand who I am: a thankful child of God who understands why I'm here, and I thank Him for that. Sharon appears to be a non-Christian believer, but her story is moving nonetheless. It takes guts to survive devastating life events, raise terrific kids and not lose our minds in the process! The universe doesn't speak to me; however, God sure does lead if we allow Him to💕

I am offended that you bring a ‘him’ into this. Your own story is not Sharon’s. How about understanding Sharon’s story as she has so generously shared in HER terms

I understand that what this title tells is a distinctive adjective which describe the result of a state of transition hence to the upright reader It's novel and a sort which could have never been studied. Hence the objective giving the inquisitive ' Who am I? Is pragmatic and different from the centric told of ' Who I am'? Hence you deserve an optimized reward for being able to pursue such advancement .. Congratulations SharonActs!

I don’t feel we can ever underestimate the scene Basic Instinct which jettisoned Sharon’s career. It wouldn’t be the same with a bigger named actress at the time - career wise it was a gift….for fame and other opportunities, that Sharon embodied Catherine so consummately. The mystery and tension that character embodied overshadowed Michael. Of course Micael was also in the Glenn Close thriller of adultery, but Basic Instinct operates as the ultimate powerful female character embodying her sexuality so powerfully, and consciously, she becomes every man’s dream and nightmare and challenge, simultaneously. Hugely difficult to continue a career after such a well played role, but you stood strong Sharon 👏👌🏼 🌈🙏. Sorry more women haven’t been supportive earlier! Perhaps there wasn’t many powerful female operators previously……yr Mother comes from a time of modesty and privacy - abandoned values in contemp times 😟

I have a new found respect for her. She is s fighter and that is how she made it and is still able to act. I love that she had a family in spite of losing the man and miscarriages. She is right that abusers can smell if you have been abused and you are a target. It is awful then everyone abused you
