You can resublimate. Put the mug in a convection oven at 400 degrees for an hour that will fade the image, the resublimate again but this time use a complicated, preferably dark pattern (kind of like when you get a coverup tattoo). I've saved many mugs and tumblers this way.

The scourer and pressure you used is what took the coating off, we use them in car paint shops to scuff up paint on a car that’s getting a paint job done 😊
@angelac2733 жыл бұрын
Not only have you probably scrubbed off the sublimation coating, but you have now embedded micro scratches all over the mug so whatever design goes on next, longevity will be an issue. Also, I buy mugs for well under a dollar, so it’s cheaper and less time consuming to just use a new mug! Great video anyhow, this is how we all learn!

If you have a lot of messed up mugs like myself 😅 you could probably get away with soaking paper towels in vinegar then wrapping it on the mug and securing with foil or Saran Wrap. So you can do more at a time as well as possibly accelerate the cleaning action. Also I have the sublimation glaze and I don’t care for it, too much work to apply and it flaked off easily, I decided my sanity was of more value lol.

I put a commercial Sublimation solution on a Dollar Tree ceramic mug. When I sublimated on the mug, the image came out great except that I didn't have the wrap tight enough and the mug didn't cover evenly. I viewed several videos on how to remove the sub ink from the mug including the vinegar, heat and paint thinner methods. However, I found, at least in my case, that simply using nail polish remover does the trick. I put a small amount of nail polish remover on a paper towel and rubbed it on the mug. It took a few paper towels, but the sublimation came right off without scrubbing. I'll have to put the sublimation solution on the mug again, since I believe I also removed that with the nail polish remover. However, I was able to remove all of the ink and am starting with a completely blank coffee mug without any sign of the original image. Just thought I'd send this along and see if you might want to try this method.

Hello Katrina. Please if you can help. So i am doing sublimation. I have a problem with black color. My printer is Epson (not so important which model), and i bought it recently, so it is a new printer and already problem started. The problem was also on old printer before. Sometimes i print many pages and everything is clear on paper. But meanwhile after some amount of prints, the paper have tiny tiny black dots. Those dots are so small that you can see them on the paper very hard. So i am always checking before sublimation, immediately when print is done. Sometimes if i don't see that there are dots, on a mug is really a big mess, not nice to see. Sometimes a little more, sometimes not so much. And then i need to do a Head Cleaning. And when it is done, everything is ok and clear for some followings prints. And then again, dots appears again. So i know it is not good to do Head Cleaning so often, so i try to find a solution. I think that there is a problem with a color? Maybe i should try to buy another color? Because printer is new, so printer can't be problem, at least i think so. Also not sure that paper is problem. And what is interesting, dots are always black, never other color. I am doing everything in photoshop, i know that there are many option, i tried that also, but then is problem with color od design etc. Please if you have have some thoughts, everything can help. There are so many different sublimation printers. I have the Eason 7710 that I converted. I have a full video on that on my page. But there is a new sawgrass 500 that came out that that doesn’t need converting. You have to see which model method works best for you. They have the eco tanks as well that don’t need converting. Do a search on best budget sublimation printers and go from there. It’s all personal preference. Each printer holds different size paper. So think about the projects you want to do. If you’re just starting start small. Cosmos ink is great but I used I Printers Jack from Amazon and it has been great. Again check out my video with my printer on my page to see if that helps.

I think probably you can’t re-sublimate is because sublimation works by the sublimation ink adhering to polyester. Scrubbing the ink off scrubbed the polyester coating on the mug off which would explain why only the parts that were not scrubbed the image appears on the second sublimation. I’ve heard of polyester powder and coating to assist in sublimation. Perhaps if you applied that after you scrubbed the ink off you would be able to sublimate again. Have you tried that? Maybe you could really save your mugs with that method. I’d be interested to see that video.

This is confirmation as to why I don’t want to do sublimation. I will stick with my cricut. It’s supposed to be permanent.
@alishachristianrdh3 жыл бұрын
It is permanent on the poly, but if you use something that can take off the actual glaze, then its the glaze that will be removed.

Have u tried this with tumbler because i tried it today and had no luck
@selenesArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Lovely I wonder if when you have residue left over if pure acetone may work to remove the rest of the film?
@katrinasgracefulcreations37112 жыл бұрын
It just might. I haven’t used acetone in it yet.

@@katrinasgracefulcreations3711 I actually Used some earlier today after the comment as I got some coffee mugs with someone else's logo so I recycled them and it worked a charm.

Did you find out what the issue was? Mine always seem to be “off” Black is like dark brown and comes nice. But not crazy vibrant. Too much/ not enough heat? Time? Pressure? Thank you.
@katrinasgracefulcreations37112 жыл бұрын
It was so long ago...I don't remember. But mines is perfect now and I have a new mug press.
@mattandrade302 жыл бұрын
My issue was pressure. I watched another video where the girl was like I put it as tight as I can … I had mine where it was .. snug. Like you couldn’t move the mug when it was closed but wasn’t “tight.” I feel like it made a big difference.

I did not read thru all 122 comments - but do you think cleaning vinegar which is 10% acetic acid would work better it is twice as strong a basic vinegar which is 5% acetic acid?
@katrinasgracefulcreations37113 жыл бұрын
The vinegar did work better
@bobshugars9511 ай бұрын
will that work on any cups like 20 oz tumbler

Thank you for this video, after watching this video I have a messed up mug and the white vinegar at home but unfortunately it didn't work for me, I even socked it an leave it overnight but nothing happen, not even a scratch of ink, maybe for the ink to come off it depends on the type of sublimation ink. Mine is still there even do socked for 12 hrs is just like how it was
@katrinasgracefulcreations37113 жыл бұрын
Did you scrub it off? It won't fall off by itself. Also I'm going to be doing another video. Someone said to out innthe oven to burn it off at 500 degress

@@katrinasgracefulcreations3711 I actually scrub it very hard leave it socked over night, but nothing come off not even a scratch of the ink come off

What????!!!!!????? I NEVER KNEW THIS!!!!! I HAVE THROWN OUT SO MANY MUGS!!!!
@katrinasgracefulcreations37113 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had to figure out something to keep from wasting mugs. After you get it off. Then use a vinyl adhesive or waterslide to save the mug!
