Keep the Z man, I just recently picked up a z125 and it's a compliment bike to my Ducati 899. It's perfect for hooning around and grabbing groceries, having a bike that doesn't take itself so serious is amazing.

Now that I have the Ninja 400, I don't put as many miles on it, but I love knowing it's there. It's a great bike for different reasons than a big bike. I think you just have to own one to really understand it.

After several decades of motorcycle hiatus, I decided, at age 73, to buy for myself a motorcycle for my 74th birthday (I'm 75 now). After MUCH research, I bought a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400, KRT edition (lime green and black - very "purdy"), and I've been LOVING it. Now the smaller bikes are fascinating me, and I've decided, thanks to you (and many others) to purchase the Z125, after all, when I receive my stimulus money, I need to stimulate a Kawasaki dealer. Kawasaki Kid (the only sport bike/crotch rocket rider in my motorcycle club - I'm not old enough for a Harley ...)

I worked for a Harley dealership for a short time and rode my Z125 to work on a few occasions. The other employees would always say "When are you going to get a real bike?" to which I would reply "I prefer bikes that can make it to 40K miles without repairs for 1/10th the price"

Solid review. Usually, I don't much care for a "life story" part in a review, as I find it's usually inane but it worked well as an introduction in this video. Keep up the good work! 😀

I've always been very transparent about my riding skill level, and I've been filming the experience since day 1. So I felt like re-capping the last year not only offered my perspective and experience of the bike, but also all of the history of the channel. Glad you enjoyed it! More to come soon!

You handled the panic stoplight stop great actually. You stopped way before the line, didn't lay the bike down. You are actually suppose to practice such a stop from time to time and its on the driving exam in some states (most). Good job. From my understanding, skidding the rear wheel is allowed on the test and you will still pass.

wow, never heard anyone downplay taking MSF course, but I know not everyone can afford it. That being said in the U.S. motorcycles are a luxury for the most part so I feel having gear and taking courses makes sense. Although my libertarian side doesn't like this being made mandatory :) Surprisingly in CA, MSF course is not required! Anyway, I'm starting w/ the Ninja 400 b/c I want the power for Highway speeds.

Just food for thought.. If bikes were meant to downshift into first gear they would have put neutral below first gear. Think about it... why even apply all that torque to your gearbox? Yes I know it can be done properly but it’s completely unnecessary. I’ve been driving stick/manual cars for over 20 years I’ve downshifted into 1st gear maybe twice. Downshift into 2nd, ride the RPM’s down low then shift into neutral while braking.

I'm 6'3" and I haven't had that problem, but I've had aftermarket bars from day 1. You can easily and inexpensively replace the bars and rearsets, which will give you more leg room. I'm actually going to be upgrading to taller, wider bars in a few days. There will of course be a video of that install as well! Stay tuned!

Z125 Pro I’ve had mine for 10 months,I bought it cause I was a beginner and it’s great and forgiving to any riders of levels. What I hate is the mirrors keep loosing up, the delay of shifting at times (I have the bike in neutral and it cuts off) then downshifting it’ll show (-) and just having to shift to 4th gear in seconds. The throttle is sensitive,if not enough gas it’ll cut off too when starting. But what I like is the body style and it rides nicely. What’s funny is that I rode a Honda Grom and it felt better riding and using the shift. I’m looking to get my bigger bike this year can’t tell if Kawasaki or Suzuki. But definitely gonna give the Z125 5/10

I don't even like shifting down to 1st while coming to a light in traffic because it's too easy to go into neutral while shifting back into second. I found it easier to just take off from second to avoid the accidental neutral shift. What do you think about that? Z125 is my first bike too.
@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix
@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix 6 жыл бұрын
Mine stopped doing that after switching to Royal Purple 10w-40 Max Cycle. I never hit neutral going up, but on rare occasion it will slip into neutral when going down from 2nd to 1st. Which isn't near as big of a deal.

If it's a downward push from nutral, then I have that down because of the Yamaha dt80 lc, you just press the shifted down like eight times, but I am also the idiot who didn't learn the muscle memory for the back brake pedal and bucked myself off it a couple of times. I'm looking at buying a Kawasaki z125 eventually because it's not as expensive as a Honda dual purpose bike, which would be similar to what I'm used to with the Yamaha I ride at my grandparents house.

Depends on what you plan on doing with it. If you're wanting it just to learn on so you can buy a bigger bike later, then you might as well buy a Ninja 400. Riding a Z and riding a big bike are two totally different types of riding. That said, if you actually want a mini because you think it's cool and plan on keeping it even after you get a big bike, then yeah. I'd get it first. That's what I did. I'd never get rid of my Z125. If anything, I'd get rid of my big bike before I got rid of the Z125.

In terms of oil, I've always been using Penzoil Platinum Plus on my car, one of the moat affordable synthetics out there. I did a fair amount of research & that was my conclusion, but it was all automotive based. Does anyone know if I should stay away from certain oils for motorcycles? Or as long as it's the right viscosity it's good?

I usually do what Tom said. Worked well in my Yamaha that I've put 47k miles on. However, I've got a Kymco Spade and can't find manufacturer specific oil for it easily. What I can say is to go by the API and weight rating the manufacturer recommends and use motorcycle specific oil compatible with a wet clutch. Many car oils are not.

Do you know if they fixed the transmission issue in the 2018?
@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix
@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix 6 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a "transmission issue". That's just how Kawasaki's are. Ninja 400 is the exact same way. You get used to it and eventually learn how to deal with it.

Ninja 400 is faster, lighter, cheaper, and gets better MPG than the Honda 500's. Check out Motorcycle.com's lightweight bike shootout. They compare the Ninja 400 and CBR 500 (Same engine)

If you are having shifting problems, you might try switching to a synthetic oil. Shifting from second into first is never real smooth on any motorcycle. It's kind ofn the nature ofnthe beasts. I had a new 2001 Kawasaki KLR250 dual sport bike long ago. That thing had an issue with the 1st to 2nd gear shift. If I didn't do a very slow and deliberate shift, it would either not leave 1st gear, or it would go into neutral. I tried switching to a Mobile One 10W-40, and never had that problem again. But try a modern motorcycle specific oil. In the old days synthetic oils did not use "friction modifiers" like many do today. You don't want any oil with those additives because, with the wet clutch on your Z125, you could ruin your clutch. Any motorcycle synthetic oil, say a 10W-40 will not have those additives. Give it a try if you haven't already. What do you have to lose?
@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix
@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix 6 жыл бұрын
They come with synthetic oil from the factory (Which is garbage). Replacing it with Royal Purple synthetic 10-40 seems to solve MOST of the problems though.

@@Rt046553 That's because it was originally designed in Japan for Asian markets only. So the stats are all metric. Meaning that's 100KMH (62mph). Which is an accurate GPS measurement. It will read 67mph on the dash, but a radar gun or GPS will show 62mph. (100Kmh)
