I am a lucky creature. Honestly never thought in a million years I'd get to ride all the bikes I do and this one was a special one! I've liked them since they were first announced and I got to not only ride one, but ride it for a few hours AND make a video so I can look at the bikes loveliness...forever! Anyway....did I actually like riding the bike? Watch the video to find out :)
I do not get paid for these videos and all opinions expressed are my own.

What's your favorite class or style of bike? I know ADVs are huge now but I personally love the retro stuff, and sportsbikes....a retro sportsbike would be very cool!! Anyway if you want this bike have a look at the for sale ad here: www.donedeal.ie/motorbikes-for-sale/2018-kawasaki-z900-rs/28802536?campaign=6 Also have a look at the photos I took of the bike on my Instagram, if you buy it and want any of the photos in full resolution let me know and they're yours for free :)

If everyone could have one from each style of bike I think the world would be a better place. I love retro too but mostly when I look at bikes I picture where I could go on them and so sport tourers always tickle me in a way that no other bikes do. But then a nice bike is a nice bike so why can't I just have them all?
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
A much happier place, and end to wars and anger! Yeah I'm the same really, it's why the CBF is the main bike and gets to do so much, they're just the handiest style of bike for what I do :) Haha we can't have them all because the lotto is a fickle beast and won't just accept that I won it.

I’ve always had vintage dual sport bikes. I had it in my mind that I was going to get a cruiser. Went to the Kawasaki shop to look at dirt bikes. Set on this bike and my mind was changed immediately. I’m 6’2 with a 34 inch inseam. It was extremely comfortable. Now I have to change my whole mindset.

This i very cool. I'm 203cm tall and a bit on the fat side. I've never been able to fit in a bike like that. I have a Yamaha Dragstar 1100 and a Honda Varadero XL1000 now. But always wanted to try a "classic" motorcycle like that. It's awesome to see you videos because you are the same size. Keep up the good work!

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't say it's the roomiest bike for folks our size but it's certainly tolerable and worth it for the bike :) Yeah one of them plus a nice retro classic would be the job, two nice bikes!! :) Thanks amigo, that's why I started making the reviews :)

Very refreshing to see a fellow large man reviewing bikes. Most bike reviews are done by woman sized people and it’s so hard to tell if a bike is fit for a rider over 6 foot and over 200lbs.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
Haha I wouldn't say sized like a woman man just a different sized person 😂 But it's one of the reasons I tried getting in to the reviews was doing videos for larger sized people!

Well, I agree. I am sick and tired of reviews by short people complaining the seat is too high. I've never seen such a bike. They're always far too small and short. We need more reviews of bikes by men your size. 15% of men are over 6ft, 1 in 6. That's not a small number.

@@TheGorillaBiker I just bought mine a month ago and it's genuinely decent quality out of Kawasaki's Japanese factory. I'd even say it's probably better than the recent ZX10-R's but it is not as good fit and finish as my 2006 ZX10-R. However compared to the 1974 Z 900 I owned as a young lad it's obviously better in every single respect except outright looks. But it's amazing how it takes me back to being 16 again with such a similar sound and look. Cheers from Australia.

Nice review! Another old git here at 59 and on the taller side at 188cm 105kg. My legs don't fit the typical sports bike. The UJMs from the 70s just fit ... My last bike was a 1978 Z1000 in the exact colour scheme as this year's blue one with the yellow striping..... am I tempted??? You bet!! Have not ridden for 30 years .... not sure if this is the bike to jump back on.with all that power ....

59 isn't old :D Yeah I get that, I CAN fit on sports bikes but it's in no way comfy. Yeah anything with that older "fit everything" design, or even a nod to it like the 900rs just fits a hell of a lot better. Don't mind any of that, do it!! Go buy one and just take your time, you're old enough to have the sense to control the right hand :) This is a bike that still lives in my head tbh, I'd love one.

good review, I think the most important thing about this bike that no one talk about is the Handlebar and it's height, this is naked bike with higher handlebar, it is the same engine as z900 with adventure touring ergonomics. just look at the handlebar, that is why riding this bike is so comfortable, you are seating upright .
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I agree...to a degree, I certainly wouldn't call the ergonomics adventure touring, I'd call them more classic than that. A lot of the old CBs had a seating position very very similar to this, they're the only older bikes of this style I've ridden hence my comparison. But I think the entire style contributes to the comfort for me, the flatter seat with room to move, the lowish pegs, the highish bar, the overall rider triangle. It all contributes to the comfort I think :)

I don't really go off-road enough and other than neck pain (because of the clip-ons he's installed) it wasn't THAT uncomfortable. Hell, my knee angle is almost the same on my V-strom 650. He's currently considering a Z900, and now it seems I'll need to look at one, too.

Nice review. Man, I am beginning to like this bike more and more. My one concern is the one you and other reviewers have raised about the throttle. One question: Why don't you think that this can be a touring bike?
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
The throttle can be Veeeeery easily fixed with a tune, it's just a mapping thing for emissions, if that's the only thing putting you off then go for it :) I meant that as more for me, I'd rather something like my CBF for touring with all the luggage!
@Ringer1982
@Ringer1982 2 жыл бұрын
It's certainly not as comfortable for touring as touring bikes, but among naked bikes it's one of the best for touring. It has a seat without a slope, and on which you can move (some bikes have seats which push you forward balls to the tank or forces you to seat in one spot). It has points to which you can attach a net to strap some cargo on the back seat (many bikes don't have them and you'll have to carry a backpack on the back). Also SW Motech mounts for the side bags don't spoil the look that much (you can see how they look in one of my videos). Yesterday I did 400 km on it, and several weeks ago I did 900 km in 2 days. Around 500 km per day is alright for me, but I never did trips which lasted for more than 3 days... Fairing even a small one like this is highly recommended, you'll be more tired without it after a long journey.

Proper bike. Proper seat. Have to throw the silly fairing away though. It is the essence. I have been sadly disappointed with the Honda offerings in this dept. Bikes from the 80's were great. What you need is what this Z sled has, modern brakes, modern suspension, Fuel injection. I am sure you could hussle this around the track, just need to work harder than you do on the GSXR. Might need straight bars to. But back in the day this was your commuter, your tourer, your racer, your despatcher. Now the manufacturers, reviewers, and KZbinrs would have us all with a fleet of bikes so we can do these things, and only go out on dry sunny weekends..... OK rant over. I would love to own one, but not here lol. Good review. Paint the Magna Kwacker green . . . . would that help your cravings?

Have to say I don't get why more bikes don't just stick with bench seats. So much handier, easier to upholster, strap things to, I can move around on them etc. I do like the new CB1000 but that's not really retro to me tbh. Haha the 80s remain my favourite period of bikes :) Yep agreed, the lack of all the usual extras actually endeared me to it, just a pity you can't turn off the traction control completely! I definitely could, but what I more meant was I couldn't in it's current form, the bars are ok but the suspension needs work, it just got too out of sorts being hustled in to corners :) To be fair to the manufacturers and us youtube peoples I do think that the "specialised" bikes do a better job at the 1 thing, but that's it. I honestly think a bike of this style will be in my future and be used for absolutely everything....I'll always have a fleet tho...that's more my own mental issues than anything else tho :D The sunny weekends thing tho.....drives me mad! Is that front fairing a quick detach mount or is it bolted In place? Also how's the wind protection from it?
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
From what I remember it was bolted in place. I didn't pay a huge amount of attention to how it was attached. Pretty good in comparison to a fully naked front end with a single headlight. I haven't ridden a Z900RS with no fairing so couldn't directly compare.

@@TheGorillaBiker cool thanks. I really like the look of the naked one . I'm not a fan of bubble fairings. I think the zrx1200 fairing looks better. But nothing beats wind protection!

O well I bought a 50 horse Kabota instead but this Zed 900rs really news inside. Like my Yamaha a 1977 from my just out. Of HS. So I'm gonna try again as soon as irs refund arrives? If power pac can land one?

Yeah that's a bloody pity, I've no idea why they make this stuff in such limited quantities. Maybe a time thing with the custom paint or something. Mental they couldn't get you one in that time tho. I hope you do manage to get your hands on one!!

10:40 wider tires don't really help get more power down to the road. the whole idea for wider tires on more powerful bikes is that they simply wear out slower than thinner tires because there's more rubber to spread the heat and wear across. with thinner tires you get pretty much the same amount of traction because a smaller contact patch will have proportionally higher weight per area. if you're in a race car going around a track trying to shave off 0.5 seconds, then yes wider tires can make a difference. otherwise, no.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
Without going in to it you're right and wrong tbh. There's obviously a good zone where the tyre is the right width, providing more traction while also being able to maintain heat. If you throw a 120 on the back you're going to have a bad time. I don't remember exactly what I said but I know my tyres, I work in rubber, and there's a good bracket for the right balance between heat and grip etc. But to say that wider tyres don't help get grip down to the road is also a false statement as is saying that they do too broadly :)

I really like the bike except for the grabby throttle. I recently demo'd the model. They would sell a lot more of those if they would have learned from the aftermarket of re-mapping the bike. It's really dumb ....other motorbike manufactures would have updated it to make the live wire throttle smoother. It's sad when a company like Triumph has surpassed a rice burner in terms of smoothness. Thx. Stuart, USA
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't think it's that bad, like with smooth throttle application it's barely noticeable it's only if you're banging the throttle on and off that it shows itself really. Honestly I've found a lot modern throttle by wire bikes a bit snatchy, the MT10 was another one that suffered from it. For me I'd probably want to put a nice exhaust on and map the bike anyway so it'd be a non issue. But I do agree it's something that SHOULD have been sorted at factory. I wonder did it show up in test! Thanks for watching Stuart!
@pjeng1
@pjeng1 2 жыл бұрын
I don't consider the throttle response is grabby or abrupt. In fact, I thought the bike is very responsive to my throttle input. You probably have owned other bikes in the past that have slower response kind of throttle characteristics, relatively speaking.
