I bought an Aglaonema Tri Color from your shop. I wanted to own one for years but since they were soooo hyped they used to be expensive af. I must say it was held in customs for like 2 WEEKS BARE ROUTED in WINTER and it SURVIVED!!!! It already popped 4 new leaves in no time. Thank you so much for selling it. They are so beautiful. I'm so happy.

What a brilliant video. The ideas you suggest make perfect sense - I think this was the best low light video I have seen so far (and I saw way too many). Please make another low-light video, it´s very useful. I live in a small apartment with only two large northern facing windows and really have to seriously consider before I buy anyhting. I can have plants only within max 1m from the window to not need grow lights. I grow very happy blooming marantas, calathea etc., tradescantia, a. clarinervium (in the window) and alocasia Silver Dragon 40 cm from the window (light from the top and she is happily growing and puping even through winter, very-short stemmed and plumpy with way too many pups). Lesson learnt: not enough light for p. Painted Lady.

I personally love hearing you go on about gloriosum, it is not a plant that gets old 😁 also I would love a non-aroid low-light video! I want to figure out something I could put in a hanging basket in my low-light bathroom (and don't necessarily want to put a grow light in the bathroom); I keep thinking some kinda of marantaceae would be the way to go? but maybe your video on it would shed some light on the subject (sorry for the pun 😁). Thanks for the interesting video, Kaylee!

Thank you!! The low light journey is one I have been on recently also. Would love to see a video on other low light plants, AND would be amazingly cool to maybe do a video someday on how variegation operates in different plants and which need maybe medium vs high light (have researched a lot on the beautiful monstera albo, would love to hear more about the genetics of variegation production in syngonium albo/aurea, white wizard/knight/princess, aglaonema manila’s pride, Jose Buono, why creates more vs less variegation in Thai Con, etc…super curious.) Thank you for the happy video.

hey just fyi, i'm not sure the scindapsus you put up as silvery ann is silvery ann. ann has the silver more on the tips and generally pretty uneven. and is rarely so uniform as in the pics you showed. overall tho, great suggestions, i also put marantas and most calatheas in lower light

what about low light? Of course, the light in our homes is dimmer than in the tropical undergrowth. I put a Maranta and a Calathea in low light and they both died. My monstera did it well but no leaves for 3 months until I brought it closer to the window... I believe that we must be conscious of the meaning of low light for tropical plants. My house seems to be a cave for my plants 😬🙄

Thank you Kaylee ! I learnt a lot in this video, as usual =) I would be very much interested in a video where you tell us also what are the full sun plants, intermediate light, and so on. Also, about grow lights, speaking in footcandles ? I think that would be very interesting for those of us that use growlights. I know some plants need a loooot of sunlight, but burn under a growlight that is not that harsh. I'm thinking about the Monstera esqueleto and some others. Still don't understand why. Yeah, a video explaining all of that would be great I think ! Thank you for your amazing content, and please excuse my aproximative English !

Dieffenbachia are colorful houseplants and don't need poles or direct sun. Tropic Snow, Camouflage, Sterling, Tropic Marianne are excellent. Reflector is a beauty but does better with high humidity. There are extremely rare collector dieffenbachia for the experienced also.

Have north facing windows in my flat - have to say that it's too dark for monstera. But anthurium clarinervium feels fine. Syngoniums mostly thrive, those are unkillable I think. For some reason only mostly green ones, like butterfly, look the worst. Shake plants are obviously on my shelves as well, a bit smaller than they could be, but still doing fine. The happiest guy in my plant family is senecio macroglossus - it tolerates my neglect, and no need for pruning as it vines all over the place, goes up and down on it's own. Have scindapsus pictus - well, it does not die, but looks not bushy enough to my taste, unfortunately. Leaves are too small to cover big internodal space.

The thing with Monstera holes is false, it's actually even the opposite of true. Splits in palm leaves and fenestrations in Monster are for air circulation, it help the leaves the cool down when they overheat *in very high light* by letting hot air rise and siphon cooler air from below. And yes mature Monstera and Epipremnum do grow in direct sunlight on palmtrees and telephone posts and this adaptation is very needed in the tropics. I'm not saying both are not good for low light, they are fantastic and probably the reason they are amongst the most poluplar houseplants ever.
@3l3llala13
@3l3llala13 Жыл бұрын
I don't think there's anyway to definitely say why some plants have evolved to develop holes in their leaves. People, including highly educated botanists, can only give their hypothesis. I've heard one explanation that the holes are to lessen the chance of strong wind shredding the leaves into tatters.

Is the reason my scindapsus pictus grows very fast but produces very small leaves because its in too MUCH light? Its very close to a south east window now, and has metres and metres of vine (currently entwined around a curtain rod) with little leaves not much bigger than a coin. I think I'm just about done with it, its not a plant i particularly love even when bushy with big juicy leaves.

2:45 This makes no sense, if it didn't have holes i would still get the same light per plant, maybe it doesn't want to starve out it's lower leaves, but still doesn't make much sense since by that point why even keep the lower leaves if it's that shady down there... unless it's a don't have all your eggs in one basket situation where it doesn't want to be dependant in only 5 or so really big leaves at the top in case they are eaten or get pest damage or something but i think there must be better evolutionary reasons for this.
