I was told for $180 they take it out and clean it, but I find that very hard to believe they do anything more than what was shown here. They charge $50 labor to change the cabin air filter which takes 5 minutes. I would like to see a video that shows removing the whole fan so you can clean behind it. I would never blow air into the fan cage... at least not until I see what is on the other side of it.
@sierraecho8848 ай бұрын
1. Use a vacuum, don´´t use pressuriced air. 2. When using a vacuum hold the fan still, otherwise if he fan spins it enduces electricity and damages it. 3. Use something like a Q-tip, paint brush, soft cloth etc. with the vacuum cleaner.
@markkent42952 жыл бұрын
Love the way you showed us how to clean the fan blades with a small vacuum and brush to prevent pushing dust into the inverter vents. I cleaned my fan filter today and the blades were only slightly dusty, but I didn’t know what to do if they were dirty. Toyota wants several hundred dollars for this minor maintenance!

1. Don´t use pressurized air, use a brush and a vacuum cleaner instead. Make sure the fan does NOT spin or you can potentially damage it. 2. Don´t take off the filter or clean it INSIDE your car, take it out and replace it outside, the whole point of this filer is to not let that dust come inside the battery. 3. Replace the filter don´t just clean it off as well. It´s cheap.

Filter maintenance appears to be the reason why people recommend that you not buy a used hybrid - as a second owner, you have no clue whether the first owner maintained the battery properly to ensure its long life.
@arik_yeo4 жыл бұрын
It's best to assume the worst when buying a 2nd hand car. Current Toyota hybrids are hardy though, usually if the car's hybrid system starts to underperform it's because the internal battery contacts are not clean + the cells are unbalanced + HV fan dirty. Thankfully, the actual cells can last a long time.

Have you thought about improving cooling to the hybrid battery pack in our hot tropical weather? Perhaps something like a liquid cooling like in some PC cooling systems. Heat kills the hybrid battery lifespan and performance imho.
@arik_yeo4 жыл бұрын
Yes I have actually. It has been a project that has lingered within my mind for a while. Was thinking of having a cooling fan to pull air and heat out of the hybrid battery. (Currently there is only a fan pushing air into the system, which was the one I cleaned). However, I haven't found the time to poke around / analyse how the cooling system works. I did notice the heat from the hybrid batteries radiates into the rear seat quite a bit though.
@natnut20084 жыл бұрын
@@arik_yeo I know of someone who's using a custom liquid cooling for his Lexus IS300h. He's on Club Lexus Sg Facebook.
I would think that since these air vent intake for the battery are in the passenger compartment, running the A/C is beneficial.

So,wrap your brains around this. The Toyota maintenance schedule recommends this service only if you vehicle is used in special operation. Such as taxi, police or door to door delivery in other words sustained low speed driving. Don’t believe me look it up in the maintenance schedule/log book. Every time you take your vehicle in for service they try to sell you as much maintenance as they can. Whether they lie to you or not. Things like brake fluid flushing, engine induction system cleaning, transmission/power splitting device fluid changing etc. If it’s not on the Toyota maintenance schedule they’re just wanting to flush your wallet.
