❤️️Love that you always put your buddies on fish too! I always used a large crab net to haul up fish from piers, but your giant treble hook method looks highly effective especially if you're alone. Great stuff!

I recommend getting one if you plan to fish piers! I linked the one I have in the description, it's only 4 dollars I think.

Is that a SLX DC? Does it work fine in the saltwater, also are you using leader or straight braid?
@sf_angler
@sf_angler 2 жыл бұрын
Just the normal SLX. It lasted one season of fishing for me with careful maintenance before I had to replace the bearings. The Tranx is much more corrosion resistant but a lot pricier too. Short 50 lb mono leader 👍

@sf_angler
@sf_angler Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! 5” is pretty big for halibut, you might want to cut them down or get some 3 or 4”. Gamakatsu o’shaughnessy are my favorite but other straight shank hooks will work, 2/0 or 3/0 size.

@sf_angler

Thanks for watching! I use the 7'6 model, but longer will work great. The reel (Shimano SLX) only comes in one size so it should be the same one I use.

Do you go time the tides when fishing the bay? Would the chances be lower during a low tide?

How often do you gaff a fish and have it measure short? How do you deal when you hook a short fish too big to flip?
@sf_angler
@sf_angler 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Fortunately I have never gaffed a short fish yet, I am really worried about that so I'm very cautious about only gaffing fish that are 100% keeper size. I use a strong rod and line so that I can easily flip shakers over the railing.

Do you ever have problems using such heavy lures with a baitacaster?
@sf_angler
@sf_angler 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, it was a very steep learning curve and I still pop off lures occasionally. It was helpful for me to use heavy breaking until I got the hang of using my thumb to control the speed of the spool, especially at the beginning of the cast. 4 strand braid also helps as it doesn't dig into the spool as much. I enjoy the baitcaster much more than spinning though so it's worth it in the end in my opinion.
