What an incredible way to explore our country. Your decision to stay the course and walk your own path instead of compromising your journey to keep the whole group intact, shows how mentally disciplined and independent you are. Kudos to you and your trail family whom decided to take the long rewarding path. May God continue to bless you all with all the beauty this trail and life has to offer! Quick question… how do you find the small water sources if they’re not on trail? Who’s carrying the dowsing rods?? lol

Faith in our Lord can be so, so strengthening! Happy to hear that you have it. Water, at 8 lbs. per gallon can sometimes seem cumbersome and unnecessary. But, having lived in Arizona for a couple years and spending weekends in the Sonoran desert, I quickly learned that it is more valuable than gold! Whether you use a camelbak or another hydration system, that weight seems easy compared to the thought of running out!

Kelly, you are a straight up Iron Woman that deserves to wear the #23 (on and off trail!)... Some things are truly earned... P.S. If you have it, could you give me the lat / lon or approximate area of that 'hole in the ground'? I'm a caver, though I'm not sure I would climb in there due to lose rocks... I'm just curious if it is something more.. Happy trails lady!!!

Day #8 of the people's petition for Kelly Hays to become the official spokesperson for Dinty Moore beef stew. When Dutch settlers discovered America in 1936, they traded maize, beaver pelts & hardtack with the Natives. You probably thought I was going to say they traded Dinty Moore... but that would be absurd, as everyone knows Dinty Moore wasn't invented until 1938.
