Kelly, a good defense against poison ivy (which releases its oil on your skin)is Dawn dish detergent. That’s what was used to clean the oil off the birds caught in oil spills. Coat the detergent on the area and scrub throughly and then repeat. Since Dawn can remove thick crude oil from the feathers of a bird, it definitely works for poison ivy. Hope you have no contact.

Cumberland trail next? Connects to the Pinhote and one day will be an alternate route for the southern AT. Right now its incomplete so just a bunch of broken sections. Part of the Great Eastern trail plan.

Hey Kelly , Love your series of Hikes . I do the same thing. I dehydrate pinto beans and add dehydrated chicken , pork or ground bison. Then add white chili seasoning. Its so good. You can also do it with taco seasoning or regular chili seasoning one pointer on dehydrating meat . Cook in pressure cooker first then dehydrate. So Your meat won't be hard and chewy. I love fixing my own meals. Saves money and enables you to Hike More without stocking up on junk food all the time. Love your videos .

Yes beware their is a lot of poison ivy, so stay on trail as much as possible. Looking forward to your videos on Adam's Gap to Cheaha State Park and the Snake in GA, two of my favorite parts. Just under 7 miles passed Porters gap you will have about 2 miles of rock fields, it's slow going just take your time and be safe.

We have the Ice Age Trail here in Wisconsin. Approximately 1200 miles long. Unfortunately I think there’s a decent amount of road hiking. That probably puts many serious hikers off. I live on a road portion of the trail. It actually goes through the small town I live in. Occasionally I see people walking by with their packs and sticks. But not too often. Upon doing some research. It looks like only about 100 people have thru hiked it.

About that foam sleeping pad… is that a preference for lighter weight as opposed to a self-inflater like a thermorest? I hate accordion foamies & find them torturous. Each his own of course. What say you?
@kellyhays23 Жыл бұрын
I would say the foam pad doesn’t save much weight and is more bulky to deal with, on the other hand, for me, it was easier to just lay out and sleep on, didn’t have to worry about getting holes or blowing it up every night and it doubled as much air pad throughout the day. Took my a while to get used to sleeping on it but I think it’s all personal preference

For my poison ivy some years ago I was given diprolene/bactroban. Sure seemed to have done the job. I found myself standing in a heavy ground cover of poison ivy while searching for a trail. My ankles paid the price. Running stream water had no effect on washing it out. Best wishes to you.
@9melissal Жыл бұрын
You definitely need more than water to remove the poison ivy oils that cause the rash. Plus once it's made contact with your skin washing it off doesn't really matter, it's already done the damage unfortunately. I'm very allergic to it and have a very severe reaction to it. Always had to get high dose prednisone shots whenever I got it and it still would take me about a month of extreme discomfort to get rid of it ☹
@paavoviuhko7250 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I have been avoiding poison ivy for the last ten years.
