I am 67 years old and have trained with some big boys. When I lived in Hawaii I became friends with a retired LA cop who trained at Golds in the 70's and at one time owned a gym in the LA area. He stated that Arnold would gain weight 8 to 12 weeks before the Olympia and that he had never seen anyone respond to the juice the way Arnold did. I can tell you that I used to buy the Weider crash weight in the cans. They tasted good especially for that era. I also took the Hoffman weight gain and it was like drinking sand.

I recall a muscle builder interview conducted by joe Weider: Ken told joe" I eat 3 eggs and a piece of meat every meal, and I get cravings for ice-cream and cookies. Ken related a story where he ate 2 pints of ice cream and 2 bags of cookies and for dessert, a cream pie, he also related "Funny the next morning my waist was more shrunk more ever, but don't try every day. Joe Weider was amazed! Does anyone else recall this part Ken Waller interview around 1977?

Ask Ken about movies/tv. He was in a movie called "Kill the Golden Goose" where he was a bad guy heavy who get's a fork to the throat by a martial arts guy (with awesome hair) after calling him a coconut head. Also, ask him what he did in the 80's/90's. I recall seeing a late 80's(?)/early 90's magazine article about him owning or running a gym or something. It had a pic with him leaning against a car (probably a vette) wearing the usual big baggie pants of the era.

Very funny interview. Hearing things like this always makes me wonder about how much protein a bodybuilder actually needs. I know it’s quite a bit more than the average person, but does a pro really need 500+ grams a day?

You'd be surprised, Vince recommended up to 10x protein per k of muscle! Such claims might be outlandish, but recent studies show that the more protein one eats, the greater the gains

@jessfrankel52124 ай бұрын
Waller's recollection of him never taking juice off-season falls into the "That's total BS and I'll take that for $500, Alex" category. Waller WAS strong, particularly in the legs, and he had a massive, thick physique, but not taking the occasional shot/cycle off-season...total crap, as far as I'm concerned. As for the 'hilarious' ice cream story, that kind of humor reminds me of Bill Murray's character in Stripes making fun of the farm boy having his way with a cow. "I wanna party with you." Lame. Waller was a fine champion, but I doubt he--or any of the other champions of that era--were clean during the off-season.
