June Gibbons and Jennifer Gibbons were identical twins who grew up in Wales. They became known as "The Silent Twins" since they only communicated with each other. They began writing works of fiction but later turned to crime. Both women were admitted to Broadmoor Hospital where they were held for 11 years.. #FreakWeek #SilentTwins

I just watched your video on the boy in the box... the messages are disabled so I wanted to ask u on here Did u know that cold case did a show about it... the only difference is they solved the case which is why it's fictional... bc of u I just found out that a lot of the show's cases are fictionalized real cases. And finally, I love your channel..... I am definitely a fan and Im not a fan type person lol... ur an awesome person and u present the case with facts with minimal opinions and I love your opinions! You def have one of the best true crime videos on KZbin and I wish u great success.. I only subscribe to the best channels... maybe like 5 at most the rest are my kids. I can't wait to keep watching your videos since ive only just found you during the pandemic.... Hugs and kisses to those adorable dogs... so cool u rescue... Ur amazing

Oh.... I'm new to the channel if u could give me ur top 5 favorite videos for me to watch... and I would love for u to do a video on the strain of bank robberies... it is simular to the one u already did with hr pizza guy who had a bomb....this story is a group of ppl stalked bank managers and then kidnapped them and their family, while the manager would have to go to the bank and go to the vault and give them the money... until the police were able to find out that this was happening in the surrounding districts the bank managers were that primary suspects I know at least one was fired cause he was thought to have done it and kind about the kidnapping... so good... baseline secret uncovered did an episode on it... I hope to hear back from u on all my questions... Thanks again Kimmy from Baltimore

So, I was a twin, but my twin died before we were even born. I'm also adopted, and never knew I was a twin until a few years ago when I found my birth mom and she told me. It made so much sense though, because I ALWAYS felt like there was a missing piece to me. On another note, this story is creepy!

All my life, from as early on as I can remember, I’ve told my parents I’m not complete, or a part of me is missing. I’ve always felt kind of empty in a way. But on the other side of things, I’ve felt like I’ve had someone directing me in life. It’s like this force is keeping me from danger (as I’ve been in several near-death or extremely dangerous situations and survived). I brought this up to parents again as an adult and I was finally told I had a twin brother who was stillborn and my parents avoided telling me to save me from any pain. Now my emptiness makes sense because the person I’m supposed to have this connection with isn’t here but is always watching over me. Rest In Peace Cole, I hope I’m making you proud ❤️

My youngest brother has the extact same feeling you discribe. He was a twin as well, but my mom miscarried one of them and my brother was the one who survived the miscarrage... He always felt so alone in a way although he has me as a sister and 2 olden brothers... We never thought it was weird cause we knew that he had lost his brother or sister... He always knew that, but still felt and feel someone missing in his life....

Wow - I feel this way as well. I love my sister AND my family, but I don't feel really close to them at all. I feel like there is something missing. I've been having REALLY bizarre dreams lately as well. I too have had near death experiences, and am alive today. Almost drowned several times. I almost went towards the light, when I have heart surgery at 6 months old, which I strangely remember. I've also been in bad situations (by accident) numerous times, where I shouldn't be alive today. I'm so happy you said this.

My twin sister is paralyzed due to 3 brain bleeds at birth, causing Cerebral Palsy, but I can always tell when she's sick because I get sick at the sime time. I have two female geckos who are hatchmates. They have a neurological disorder called enigma syndrome. When separated, they stopped eating and became catatonic. 😳 weird. Specification: for those that are unaware, enigma syndrome is strictly related to the enigma morph, which is like a type of leopard gecko if you will. So sam and Gilly are both enigmas, and they have Enigma Syndrome. Hope that makes more sense :) and yes they’re named after GoT characters LOL

That is really interesting...I wonder if this Syndrome is in humans. In the medical field a “syndrome” type of diagnosis is basically saying that the “professionals” don’t know where, why or how. It’s an enigma, if you will.
@traci3868
@traci3868 6 жыл бұрын
That's super interesting. I wonder if this syndrome has ever been documented in humans before, and if not perhaps this is a case that should be used to explore that. Then again, while that fits with some of it I'm not sure what to think of the fact that things got better, not worse, when one twin died. That alone might cause enigma syndrome to be out of the question, but I still think it'd be worth looking into. Maybe it presents a little bit differently in humans, or maybe it's some sort of adjacent but related syndrome that nobody's really considered yet due to the obscurity of it. Either way, very interesting, and I hope that your geckos are doing well and are able to remain together. :)

I don’t want to sound ignorant and I’m sure their parents loved them very much, but I wonder if their family ridiculed them too much when they were younger and ended up giving the girls some sort of complex. I just don’t quite believe that these girls were “weird” or “bad,” I think there was a misunderstanding and the parents didn’t know how to deal with their children and their relationship with each other. Could be wrong, just my thoughts.

@Meowzers1250

Also being immigrants, especially black immigrants, moving to Wales where the culture is just so different that surely it had a part to play. Perhaps the girls were just shy, but the situation caused it to spiral. I sometimes struggle to understand the welsh and I'm English, I can't imagine how hard it must have been for the girls. Perhaps that's why they progressed when the were sent to a special school, they received the support and attention they didn't receive at home and helped them out of their shell.

I agree! That would also explain the fact that they were very close and only felt understood by one another. Hence why even though they wanted to live individually they were almost addicted to each others presence so much that their anxiety from separation would depress them

They felt like the only person who could understand them, was themselves. And it was sort of true, wasn't it? I thankfully had a mother who had gone through a childhood of being selectively mute as well, so she completely understood me and stood by my side. She did coddle me, but not too much. If it hadn't been for her in my life, I don't even know how I would of ended up like.

I feel like they were let down by a lot of people - I don't even find their case 'creepy' or 'odd', because it has so many potential solutions. On the one hand, they could have just had mutism and extreme social anxiety, coupled with a strong twin bond that made them feel alienated - I don't even feel like anything metaphysical is involved. But what I think the main problem actually is, is the way other people treated them - bullying, separation, poor mental health treatment. Instead of seperating and medicating them, why not give them therapy to make their relationship healthier? It sounds like they needed someone to teach them healthy boundaries, and also resolve past trauma from bullying, etc. That kind of environment would make anyone resent the other person, I think. I just think the whole situation is tragic and would be so easily resolved if it happened nowadays.
@ihatemickiegee

Caitlin Montgomery I thought the same thing. no mental illness is solved purely by captivity and medication/other treatments without psychotherapy or at least talk counseling. I also didn’t look at it as creepy or strange, I mean of course it’s intriguing and really makes you think, but not in the sense that we’ve never seen anything like any part of this before. we’ve seen cases of twins like this. we’ve seen horribly misunderstood people get horrible mental health ‘treatment’. it’s fucked up and sad that no one cared enough or at least knew enough to go about their treatment the right way and always focused more on making the twins run from their problems to ‘solve’ them instead of get to the root of it to produce a solution and heal the girls. like you said, their sanity could’ve been achieved so much easier or gone about in a much more intuitive manner... the people surrounding the girls failed them. society, professionals, their family. at least the family has the excuse though that they don’t know the best decisions to heal their psyches because they’re not professionals, but the psych wards failed that family and it’s just a shame their episodes and crimes weren’t prevented like so many could’ve been. my deepest sympathies to them :’(

I think that they weren't supposed to be twins, that there was only one soul but something happened that made the soul split, thus turning one baby into two. So they were only ever one half of a person, and the only way to be whole, was for one of them to die and the other half of the soul be returned to the other.

I've heard of the silent twins but never in this much detail. I also have selective mutism and I had no idea that these girls had the illness too. It's an anxiety disorder, and the eating and watching TV and walking you mentioned (as well as things you didn't) is a huge part of it!! It's definitely more than just commination issues
@Bespeon
@Bespeon 6 жыл бұрын
I have it too and no they're not, it's literally just the inability to speak in social situations. Other symptoms are due to other mental illnesses or disorders (or even autism, many autistic people have issues speaking in social situations, similar to selective mutism).
@beepboop9976
@beepboop9976 6 жыл бұрын
Bespeon everyone is different and so are their illnesses. It's an anxiety disorder, linked to social anxiety. It's not actually just inability to speak in social situations there are lots of different scenarios and situations where a person with selective/elective mutism finds themselves unable to speak. The fact that it's linked to social anxiety means that if their SM is severe enough they may find it very difficult to walk, talk, eat and not want anybody to be in the room while they do certain things like watch TV or anything that involves them making noise someone may hear. I always use headphones, I don't use a TV as the thought of someone listening to what I'm watching gives me unbareble anxiety. I knew a guy who wailed when he cried because he was trying so hard not to make a noise when he cried that it ended up coming out as a waiI I know when I freeze and my SM kicks in, I'm unable to move my body either, not just talk.

My twin brother and I use to sneak into each others cribs at night and hold hands when we would sleep, and my mother said that if we weren't touching each other than we could not go to sleep. Jake and I ever since we were little could talk to each other in a way that others can't understand ( mumble whispers etc) its an amazing bond, even though now that Jake and I don't really have the same friends, we will always have a friendship that could never be replaced. Just came across this video. As a speech-language pathologist, I work with people with communication disorders such as: articulation/phonological processing disorder (or commonly called “speech impediments.”), language disorders, voice disorders, and fluency (stuttering and cluttering), and so many others such as selective mutism. It is common for twins to have similar speech distortions or processes. I have worked with a lot of children whose speech sounds are so unintelligible and are rarely understood. Often times, kids will all together stop talking or rarely talk because no one understands them, constantly asks “What did you say?”, bullied, and people assume their stupid. I have worked with so many kids where they were labeled “weird” because of these behaviors that stem from the communication disorder. I’m not saying that all of their behaviors stem from their communication disorder, since I do not have all the details of their case. I just wanted to post this to help raise awareness for how communication disorders can adversely impact someone’s life. I actually find this less creepy and more sad.

I think you’re right a speech impediment and possibly high functioning autism? They were let down by the uk justice system, health and education and needed some form of early intervention by todays standard. Plus I do wonder if their parents would be so trusting in the system if this happened today? If your still in interested there is a BBC documentary with one of the twins on KZbin and I’ve heard they will be doing an updated one. From the UK

tbh i dont think this had anything to do with sharing a soul or anything, i think these girls had severe anxiety and just weren't treated properly. they wouldve developed this strong, strong dependence on the other as they were allowed to engage in this silence around everyone but themselves. i feel if they had been taken to a psychiatrist earlier, or if there had just been some sort of attempt to help them become more independent early on, before the bullying and ostracizing in school happened, they could've ended up living proper lives. but once they had gotten to a point where it had been silence for years, the anxiety and reliance on eachother would've built up so strong it'd take immense effort from both the twins and their family/people interacting with them in order to break free of the trap. the freedom described when one twin dies makes me think they really were holding eachother back without realizing, like, they were just so dependent on eachother subconsciously they weren't capable of doing what they wanted to because they'd been with eachother and eachother only for their entire lives at that point. its like going to a party and sticking to one person youre comfortable with, except for these girls they were the only people they were comfortable with and neither could break free of their norm to interact with new people until forced to due to the death of one.

I’m a twin :) The relationship we have is incredibly unique and strong. He is the first person I text when I have panic attacks or any kind of insane anxiety about things (and vice versa). When we were younger we weren’t like this at all. We grew up kind of like normal siblings and would get annoyed when people would obsess over the twin thing. But when we reached 23-25 we started maturing and realizing how unique it was to have a sibling that shares the exact same timeline of events, same experiences, same friends, same memories mostly. It’s crazy bouncing memories off of each other. I remember things he doesn’t and he remembers things I don’t and we are able to remind each other of specific memories and it’s pretty cool to have that ability.

As someone who got bullied as a kid for having selective mutism as well, it really is like that. Things people can't understand, the unknown, makes them really cruel at times... I felt like an outsiders as a child, because nobody, except my own mother, even tried to understand me. I can't see anything creepy about this story, but I guarantee many people do. This all just seems really sad to me. Almost like.. an alternate story for myself, where things didn't end up going well. I was supposed to be a twin: during her pregnancy my mother experienced intense bleeding and went to hospital where they informed her I had died. However, when checking again they found me alive (obviously). They concluded that I should have been a twin, and by the way things looked it would have been a sister. I don’t know about the bond with a twin due to this, but I’ve always felt a massive void, like half of me is missing. I’ve felt it for as long as I can remember and I’m 22 and the feeling still hasn’t gone away, and I doubt it will.

I have younger brothers who are twins. When they were starting to walk and "speak", they were in different stages of development (before age 2). One could speak clearly (for his age anyway) and the other could not. The one who could speak well would always translate what the other was saying for us! It was soooooo cool and interesting to watch them grow up. I love my bubbas 💕 (I didnt mention them by name because they are still young boys and i'm their big sis so i'm protective 😉)

My mom is a twin. But my aunt passed in 2011. She has told me so many times that they were just so undeniably close. They could sense things about the other. And I'm pretty sure they had their own language. My aunt was "the good twin" as she described it. Lol. Not as mischievous as my mom. I also remember my mom telling me how they used to switch clothes and take eachother's classes in school. Twins are absolutely so incredible and fascinating. I know twins run in my family, on both sides. Also, this story is so fascinating as well. I love love love your videos, Kendall Rae. I look forward to them and can't wait to watch them when they're posted. Freak week is my fav!!

I personally have Selective Mutism. It makes you feel as if you're trapped. It is utter hell living with SM. I felt absolutely crazy, and even tried to commit suicide because I wanted to be happy. Selective Mutism made me extremely depressed to the point of self harming and crying every single night. It was hard for me to understand why I wasn't like the other kids at school. I was outgoing at home (never stopped talking), but at school I shut down. Nobody understood because not many people know of Selective Mutism. I was (and still am) getting bullied. I had a counselor that told me I was choosing not to talk, so I stormed out of her office. However, I got in trouble for acting "inappropriately." I felt so alone and out of control. If the girls had SM, I don't blame them for their actions. Sm is poison to the mind.

We’ve randomly started singing the same part of a song at the same exact time many times. People have witnessed us do it too 😆 super trippy!

I don't think there's anything weird about them, it seems like they developed an unhealthy bond with no boundaries because nobody else understood them. Then on top of that had to endure the trauma of racism at school. It makes sense that they'd stop talking and have a toxic relationship. High doses of medication for years in a high stress environment could definitely have caused Jennifer's death. A really sad story all round.

While it's definitely not as weird or creepy as this, I have my own kind of twin story. I had a fraternal twin in the womb, but he/she miscarried. Even before my mom told me, I'd have this reoccurring person in my dreams. His name is Shard, though I don't recall how I came to know that (If someone has any idea what 'Shard' means as a name, I'd love to hear it.). He has blond hair, like my mom, and brown eyes, like my dad. He appears probably six or seven times a year and plays a passive role in my dreams. But I get a distinct feeling that he's important. The only other reoccurring people I get are close relatives, so it would work if he is my twin. He's also grown up alongside me throughout the years. All he does is stand around and look at me expectantly. In fact, I don't think he's ever spoken before. Sometimes he's the only thing I remember from a dream, even if he appeared briefly. It's kind of strange... :/

Revisiting this case it sounds like they were each other’s own twin flame (ironically) because twin flames were once the same soul now split in two and it’s incredible to me that they described it that way. Also, twin flame relationships aren’t always ideal and healthy, at times they can be quite toxic or volatile.

Kendall, I have a twin sister and yes, we have a super special/ unique bond! We actually used to have a secret twin language when we were a lot younger (very very primitive) but unfortunately neither of us remember it anymore lol. Sometimes it does still seem like we share a brain wave, although that could also be attributed to living together in close quarters for 20 years, since I sometimes feel a similar closeness with my younger sister. We’ve definitely never been like these two, not even close! Still frustrating to have people confuse us all the time haha

Not being able to regulate themselves without the other, but becoming frustrated because you can only communicate with one person? That sounds like my worst nightmare. I know many people on the spectrum, including my best friend, and I am seeking a diagnosis myself. I’m so beyond thankful for any and all the progress that has been made in aiding those with ASD. It’s not perfect, but it makes me more confident that I’ll be able to get help as I need it.

Up until about age of 16 they sound exactly like these two twins I knew... steva and eva. Very strange girls. I was friends with them kind of. They NEVER spoke and when they did it was quiet and faint. They would talking to each other in idk what language but they only knew English (parents only spoke English). They communicated with looks, whispers, and weird words i couldnt identify. They also passed notes in class with symbols. They werr extremely quiet in class so i figured it was anxiety. I talked to people who neighbours with them, and they said they had never heard them speak a word either. They said when they werr younger (7ish) they wouldn't even laugh they looked like it but made no sound. I discovered they had a younger sister, i forget her name but she was about 9 (we were 12 at the time) and I asked the sister if they talked outside of school and she said they did not. I spoke to teachers when I was partnered up with them for projects and how I am supposed to do it when they dont speak and she said that they are mute, but selectively. I guess their mom said they never spoke after the age of six, and they stopped showing emotion after eight. They were very smart girls from test marks I saw (typically 90% +). They were becoming more strange... i dont know how to describe it you couldn't point anything out in specific but the rest of the school noticed it too. My friend who lived behind them noticed they looked out their window for HOURS standing side by side directly into her house. They walked in sinc, even when running laps in gym their steps matched. I asked steva one day (she would whisper singular words from me which was more than she has said to anyone else) so I asked "do you like being a twin?" And her blank expression turned into and angry one. She answered with "no." I asked why and she said "it's bad" i asked how, she said "I hate eva" (she said all in whispers). Then after her angry expression went back to blank. The day after I never saw them again. They just, left. My best friend who lived behind them never saw a for sale sign, or the girls ever again either. The house was vacant.

I think the reason they didn't get along is due to a reason that's hard for us to face as individuals, let alone twins. We are our own worst critics, and since these girls are so near identical to one another, it gave way to an intense mutual understanding but it was also like looking into a mirror where your worst faults were laid out in plain sight. I think it was just really troubling and difficult for them to acknowledge and face their demons.

Clearly it is the bullying and feeling of being rejected from society at a very crucial and vulnerable age that started this problem, and unhealthy habits which the sisters encouraged in each other that continued it. That is why they though that the one had to die. If there was no one to encourage the unhealthy behaviour, it would be easier to stop it. You say Jennifer died of an illness one rarely dies from, but remember how being hospitalized and given medication for years will do weird thing to your immunesystem.

It’s insane! Given that my mums a twin I’m super likely to have twins! It misses a generation as far back in the family history that we’ve gone through!

It’s kinda Goth, isn’t it? I thought she made up Goth for her Freak Week series. I wouldn’t want that to be her everyday look.

I honestly believe I was meant to be a twin. Twins and triplets run in my family. And I was a C-section baby because my mom carried a tumor at the same time as me and the tumor was around the same size as me and blocked my way out. The tumor had teeth and hair in it. I've always felt like the tumor somehow absorbed my twin, but of course I can't prove that. When I was younger I actually used to tell people I had a twin that didn't make it home from the hospital. I play it off now as a horrible joke made by a kid but a part of me really does believe that and I can't explain why (also I'm an only child so it could just be my inward desire to have a close sibling bond like twins often have).

It's called a parasitic twin, horrible name I know, there was a lad who had one growing in his stomach, with hair, teeth and bone

It's actually common for tumours to have various tissues (not sure correct term) in them, doesn't make it a twin sadly
