As a type 2 diabetic for over 20 years my most profound realization about the medical profession is their total lack of understanding of nutrition. I proved this to a point that my doctor quit her practice to go back to school to specialize in Diabetes. It took me years of trial, error and an understanding nutrition and portions, losing 150 pounds, walking 2 miles a day and getting my a1c from over 11 to 6.5 and being taken off ALL my diabetes meds, the results are undeniable.

@@sybillc263 I think what I stated in my reply shows what I've learned. What else I learned is that doctors aren't taught a lot of things like nutrition, it's most likely why they call it a "medical practice"...

When I was diagnosed type 2 5 yrs ago, was surprised my dietician said eat as much eggs, bacon and red meat I wanted. For years we heard these foods were bad. Avoiding carbs (esp sugar products) eating right, snacking on nuts, losing 10 lbs, and daily exercise dropped my A1c from 12 to 5.6 in 3 months with NO insulin.

Those are bad foods.. for your heart. For your cholesterol levels those are very bad foods. I hate this idea of "eat whatever you want within this particular food group." That is almost never the case. Even leafy greens are bad if you're taking certain medications because they can cause bad side effects. You need an individualized plan. And you have to take into account more than just your diabetes. Understand that your body isn't just dealing with blood sugar levels. You also have to worry about your fat intake and what kind of fat you're taking in. Eggs and avocados have great healthy fats but even the good fats need to be taken in in moderation. Steak is horribly notorious for raising your cholesterol levels which will lead atherosclerosis and heart disease in the long run. Be careful.

I've had half a dozen Dr.'s tell me how bad my type 2 diabetes is, acting as if I set out in life to be that way, no info, no tips, like they don't know much or don't care enough to explain what I should really do, I hate metformin, I struggle to eat properly due to low income, all of this has been so uninformed and frustrating that I have seen it all from getting healthier to not caring and now hearing you explain how it works and where my food intake is the culprit, I have a new point of view to go at this problem again with renewed hope thank you good Dr.😁

I struggled for 8 yrs but have found eating 1 boiled egg in the morning with a piece of whole wheat toast n 2 pieces of turkey bacon or turkey sausage n a 1/2 cup of tangerines or oranges or pears ,peaches is a good breakfast. Blue berries, strawberries with BlackBerry Hills sugar free granola is good also. But just 1 boiled egg in the mornings helps keep your blood sugar down. Remember 1/2 a cup of most things u eat makes a big difference in your bldsgr levels. Stay away from white bread, n white flour. Good luck dear.

Dr. Berry, I started listening to you over the winter. While I am now FULL CARNIVORE, I started in February with getting sugar out of my diet. At 57, I had been wearing bifocals for several years, and last years eye exam was my worst. Eyesight was 20/50, and 20/60. I was completely dependent on glasses for every task. After quitting sugar in February 2023, I felt like my eyes were getting better. By mid summer I was not wearing glasses at all. So I made an eye exam appointment for last week. My eyesight is now 20/20, 20/25. The doctor was absolutely amazed, never seen improvement like that. The office was all a buzz. I told her about you, Kelly Hogan, and Dr. Chaffee, and getting sugar out of my diet. If my eyes healed up without sugar, what else may have gotten a foothold in my body that will now heal on the carnivore diet. I am down 17 pounds and I feel fantastic!

Type 1 diabetic here. I've been without doctor care through the last year and a half due to my doctor moving away and doctors not taking new patients during the pandemic, so I rely a lot on what I can find on the internet. About a month ago I went full keto and while my body protested the changes and had to endure an ER trip after my blood sugar spiked over 300, I've settled into the diet - which includes the foods you listed. I'm also down to 18 units of Insulin a day (down from 24) and have lost 7 pounds so far. My eyesight improved to the point I can wear an old prescription I thankfully held on to, and all of the rashes I had on my body disappeared. I also have more energy than ever. Doctors start taking new patients in July, so I'm hoping I find a good one to go back under their care. Thank you for the great advice and your channel is an absolute wealth of information that I've slowly been working through.

I concur that KETO was great. I did it back in 2017-19 and then the Pandemic and my BF who lectured me for eating "too much cheese" and other that berated me for not eating carbs.... threw me off. I was more concerned with just having food and everyone was making bread and while we ate a lot of fish and vegetables roasted in the oven... The overall stress just was too much. I mean even my DOCTOR saw the results.. and said keep on whatever you are doing... as she had warned me I was prediabetic but then I normalized... I don't know why the mainstream medical is still pushing this bad advice. WHen i was full blown diabetic she pushed the metformin. She even called me.. (which she has never done so she was apparently super concerned!) after my A1C was 7.5....

Your videos about Keto have given me the answers I’ve been looking for, and is absolutely turning around the medical issues (diabetes 2, hypertension and osteoarthritis) I’ve been dealing with for several years! My doctor is quite amazed to see how dramatically my bloodwork has changed in the month since I started Keto; and I hope he’ll actually take my suggestion to look at some of your videos, as well as other medical experts who advise the clear benefits of a ketogenic lifestyle. Again, many, many thanks for your help.💐

Yes bacon wont spike your blood glucose, but come on! It's actually a group 1 carcinogen!!! The advice to skip breakfast is fine. Having avocado or even a salad! Why not just have a salad? Is it illegal to have a salad for breakfast? Eggs may be fine, but I wouldn't have 3 every morning, and steak? Seriously? Why not salmon or sardines? I don't know....If you're just worried about your blood sugar than fine, but as an "MD" he should be trying to give people the best advice possible. If you disagree with the notion that bacon like all processed meats are group 1 carcinogens than fine, but don't try to make political statements by saying that it is the "best" for diabetics for crying out loud. How is it better for diabetics than bitter melon or mackerel? This is why people are so confused, because "doctors" don't know what the heck they are talking about!!!! The advice to check you own blood glucose is great! Many of us are pre-diabetic and don't even know it. We should all be checking our glucose levels! The insurance companies need to cover those costs so we can AVOID being diabetic. An iPhone app would be great. Don't forget however that we don't have a similar test for colon cancer and heart disease. I agree with the "Keto gurus" that sugar was and is a major problem that we overlooked, and that saturated fats were vilified, but let's not get too carried away and start promoting bacon, when there are much better alternatives....

Hey Doc, On January 6th 2022 I was admitted into the hospital 3 days after diagnosed with Covid. I was given some preventive medications to help with the covid systems B and C vitamins 350 milligram aspirin and a steroid. Three days later I'm in the hospital with my blood sugar at 780. Never being diagnosed a diabetic before this and now in the hospital not knowing why I can't quench my thirst and I've never urinated more in my life. Took three days to get my sugar to the 250 range before each meal, checked out of the hospital now shooting insulin 4 times a day. That's the back story. while in the hospital I started doing doing research on what in my head would be the best thing I could do right now, and I didn't want to do a diet alone. I was in need of a life style change. Came across the primal blue print and I also came across your channel. Well after hour of listening to and following the blueprint I have success. After four weeks, Four weeks mind you, I have lost 37lbs. I work out 4 days a week, 1.5 hours a day. All cardio. I have brought my sugar Level into the normal range and I have not had to use insulin in 5 days. " It is February 5th 2022 mind you" Your videos have put me in the right direction, and I feel that I awe you a great deal of appreciation for putting these videos out there. I with my new life style I feel I will only get stronger. I am a 51 year old male, 5'11 and on January 6th I weighed 251 and today at the gym I was 214. In my book, you saved my life. Now my family will never have to know how diabetes destroyed their farther or husband, because that will not be my destiny. Thank you so much for helping me see the light. It happened for me when you said that dyeing from a heart attach right now would be better than the 12 years on insulin dependency, was the exact wake up call I needed.

I am neither diabetic, nor close to being diabetic. This just made sense to me so I tried it. A couple eggs, a couple strips of bacon, a small hass avocado, a small container of yogurt and my usual herbal tea. I found it to be very filling, provided lots of energy, no heavy bloated feeling, along with a smaller lunch since I am not starving, and I'm shedding pounds fast. All big wins and I am not even diabetic.

That's great, David! A lot of times, I go OMAD! That's one meal a day! I also don't eat breakfast until later in the day. So I basically skip breakfast in the morning. And with these kinds of foods to eat at my first meal of the day, I can definitely have that as my only meal of the day. But at times, I do eat one more meal around 6pm and it's usually a huge salad with all kinds of greens like spinach, bok choy, arugula, green leaf, and I add veggies, mushrooms, chopped pecans & walnuts. I make my own salad dressing with EVOO, Apple Cider Vinegar, a wee bit of lemon juice, seasonings; fresh ground Pink Himalayan salt, fresh ground black pepper, fresh ground garlic, semi-dried basil & oregano. Yummm! If I do eat a smaller meal before that, sometimes I add cold chicken strips to my salad.

Bacon, which is loaded with sodium, is one of the worst things you can eat. The sodium causes you to retain water, which, in turn, can increase blood pressure. The best rule of thumb is, if it tastes good, it’s bad for you.

When I worked in medicine (at a family practice office) one of our patients went to diabetic nutrition counseling and she came back to see us a couple of weeks later. She said, "Look, I know I'm not a medical professional, but this just seems wrong. Their advice is to eat a bunch of carbs and take the medicine. I ate what they told me to eat and my sugar is HIGHER. Wtf?" I of course agreed, but I'm not the doctor. I can't legally say anything that could be construed as medical advice. On her next visit with us 90 days later, her sugar and A1C were in the normal non-diabetic range. When asked what she was doing differently, she said she had been following a pretty strict keto diet. I cheered inwardly that she had discovered this for herself, but of course, the doctor had to give her the canned lecture about fat and cholesterol and all that crap. She went to her diabetic specialist and nutritionist for follow-up and they blew a gasket in rage because she wasn't following their plan. They didn't care that she had amazing results because she wasn't doing what they told her to do. They ejected her from their practice and reported her for medical non-compliance to her insurance company, which threatened to drop her insurance coverage. It was a whole big mess, but I am SO HAPPY that she chose to do what seemed right and achieved amazing results!

I'd quit sugar about 2 years ago and the best thing I've noticed is that I no longer get those horrible muscle cramps! I'd had them for 30 years. I agree with most of this information, very educational video. I skip breakfast at times but, not always; There is also a key missing in this information:🔑 I find that most diabetics miss enough hard cardio or exercise to move the blood in your system fast enough, the faster you can move the blood in your system, the faster fat gets broke down. I'm not diabetic but, I'm 60 years old and, had to lose 100 pounds in 6 months for my heart. Well, I stepped that loss up several notches and, lost 105 pounds in 2 months, I monitored my heart while doing extreme cardio, checked my blood glucose and, I was told that it could not be done safely? Well, I did it in 2 months safely, sure I got my heart rate up to 285 bpm for 15 minute segments and, checked my blood glucose 10 minutes afterwards 84 with an A1C of 6.1. When I skip breakfast I drink plenty of water, I also do meditation exercises to get me to the lunch hour or around 12pm. I then ate eggs, bacon for lunch: then 2 hours later ate a spinach salad with some tuna, onions and mustard in it for my protein source, no mayo or salad dressing, I'm back to my 28" waist pants size I used have when attending HS. I also do weight training for 3 times a week, cardio 3 times a week in between. I'm 6 feet tall, weigh a healthy 179 pounds and, noticed the white of my eye is brighter than before. My heart is stronger, lowered my cholesterol by taking a flaxseed supplement, I also take in nettle leaf: this helps regenerate proper nerve function, wards off cancer, heart disease, stroke and helps eat off the plaq off your brain to keep you from getting old age related brain diseases. This has also improved my thyroid and, kidney function: the nettle leaf also gives me sustained more energy than I had before, I don't wake up as often to pee so, I think it has beneficial properties to improve prostate and, bladder function. My wife also uses it and, she don't have to pee as often: she used to have a very weak bladder, she said it strengthened her bladder. We both also eat and, love peppers: neither one of us has any sequel dysfunctions in the bed room: I'll be 61 in December, she turned 65 in August. The fact remains: there is a lot of misinformation out there, my doctors tried to tell me I was too old to do what I did on my weight loss journey but, why are my labs good all across the board? I had a recent Echocardiogram and, they said I have an extremely strong heart, no calcification, excellent clear valves, why? The human body is more sophisticated than most humans can understand, if you have a strong enough of a heart, by all means doing what I did will only help you: You are responsible for your own health: stop listening to the bologna, get your A up and, stop being a couch potato 🥔, take control of your health. I'm old schooled and, learned not to take no for an answer, I found out my way was best for me. My advice is to listen to your doctor but, at the same time find a way to move more often. If I can do it, anyone can do it! The age thing has no bearing, to me age is just a number, be proactive for your health, life is too short not to take control.
