The gateway to the Sierra Nevada, Kennedy Meadows showcase an opportunity to gain once in lifetime experience while trekking the famous Pacific Crest Trail. It has a small community, with its General Store serving all hikers and adventurers alike. Truly a thru-hikers haven, they have a restaurant that served protein-rich food and beverages. Hikers can stop by and spend a day to regain strength and re-supply for the continuation of their journey.
From the Kennedy Meadow campground, we travel Northbound and found a decent spot to spend our first of the three nights in the South Sierra. We named all our trail camp on our own based on the name the place or highlights in the area. This PCT section of Kennedy Meadows all the way to Olancha Pass junction has some of the most beautiful meadows in the Sierra Nevada. Passing through this wooden bridges across the Southfork Kern River is another highlight of the trip. This 20ish miles is within the South Sierra Wilderness. This year, water is not a problem along this PCT section due to great winter we had. In fact, fish can be found even in small streams.
Be advised that the last leg of this hike will pass through the Olancha Pass and down to the steep unmaintained trail of Olancha Pass Trail. 4,000 foot drop in less than 6 miles.
Thanks to Jason Kuo for setting up the trip. Also to Liming Hueng for the food and drinks at the end of the hike. Thanks as well to David Feiler for the ride to and from LA.
