Those hobo pie makers are a great camping utensil. I'm going to try making a pocket pizza in mine, and maybe try some other recipes too. I understand the struggles of not having enough time. My trail rig/camping truck needs a transmission, I just fixed my daily, and my Chevy Apache needs brake work and I have a sway bar to install before the snow keeps it off the road for the year.

You are still doing better than we are . I purchased a new northern lite 10-2 in July. We go to use it for one night before it fell apart. The solar power system failed the first time we turned the battery switch on. 10 minutes later I tried to open the microwave cabinet, and the door broke off, went to the bathroom, and started smelling something about 20 minutes later. Went to go outside to see what was going on, and the door handle fell off. Climbed out the skylight and down the ladder to find out the black water tank was busted. Hopefully, I will get it back some day from the shop.

Oh my gosh, that's horrible. I feel bad for you. That has to be frustrating. I would be furious spending the money for a new camper, then have to deal with that. I hope it starts turning around for you soon.

We have the same type of issues with our N.L.also. my 10-2 LE has a new problem every time we use it. The go power solar chargers that they use are junk , the same goes for their plumbing parts. In 1 year we had to replace the charge controller 4 times and we are still trying to get our black water system to last over a few months before it has to be rebuilt. They have major design flaws in their electronic systems also.

Wow. Thanks for the good information. I won't be able to afford a new camper anytime soon. But when I'm in the market for a used one, it's nice to know what years suffer from quality control issues.
@pedalingthru2719 Жыл бұрын
@KennyOfAllTrades I have spoken with a lot of N.L. owners, and from what I can determine, most of these issues have only started showing up in the 2022 and 2023 models. The people I have spoken with that have 2021 and older models have no issues with their campers.

Hi Kenny! We are a couple of retired boondocking RVers who stumbled across your channel a week or so ago. We instantly subscribed! We now went back to the beginning and are binge-watching you right through from the first videos. What we like most is your gentle voice, gentle music, and your photography angles. Exciting that each week shows more and more the beauty of the Northwoods. We travel in Northern Wisconsin, the U.P. of Michigan and sometimes over onto Minnesota North shore and into Canada. We mostly love boondocking in the National Forest. We really laughed at your "chickamunga" pronunciation of our beloved Chequamenon National Forest of Wisconsin. Especially loved your trek up to Copper Harbor and through the Porkies. I grew up in the UP and this is all home stomping grounds for us. We are taking notes of some of your favorite places over in Minnesota to check out. Please keep your videos coming! We are now avid watchers, waiting for the new ones each week. (Because if you, Steve is now thinking of getting a drone, and E-bikes are next on our list). Steve and Karen of NE Wisconsin

LoL.......Love it Kenny! Raccoons here live in herds! When my boys were in Scouts I always took my vacation and helped the Scout Leaders for week camp. I had a blast with the guys. We always warned the boys not to bring a bunch of snacks as it always led to Raccoons raiding the boys tents all night. Those that did bring stuff I showed them that a "bear bag" was handy for Raccoons also. One year we had another very small troop stay with ours. Their leader was always on his boys and our boys cases about nothing at all. His name was " Sarge" One night our boys with their ornery 11-15 year old imaginations waited till Sarge was asleep and broke up candy bars and put them under his cot. About a hour later Sarge woke up screaming and carrying on. Seemed he had 5 furry masked bandits in his tent and one had even climbed up on his cot at Sarges feet. The hardest part was trying to chew our guys out for it while laughing our rears off!@@KennyOfAllTrades

I always admired how you show the good with the bad, not like most of the other "boondocks" or "van life" people who only show how good it can be. It's not for everyone and hairy situations can happen. last week, I had to bail on a trail and it took me quite a while to turn my Tacoma and off road teardrop around, unhooking and spinning the teardrop by hand.
@KennyOfAllTrades Жыл бұрын
I agree. it's not always as easy as some people make it look. And it can be expensive if you don't know how to fix all the stuff that breaks. I know some people get on the trials and run into big problems. They think it will be just like the perfect Instagram pictures and vanlife videos. Instead, they get an $800 recovery bill and thousands in vehicle repairs.

Bummer about the window. I was in a hurry last year and put my trailer hitch through the wall of my cabin. It still carries the scar. I hate to see people leaving their beer cans like that. It gives the rest of ua a bad rep. I too find live rounds in the camp fire pits. It is stupid to be sure but I have had them just go pop and not much more. Still smart to check the fire pit though. I have a gravy recipe that is just sausage, flour and milk and you don't need to remove the meat from the pan. I will send it to you. Blueberry, cherry and lemon pie filling in the bread with the pie iron is a sweet treat at the campfire. Here is a little help with the window. Good video this week and I will have to check the area out next year when my camping is done.

My buddies back in high school would throw cans of soup into the bonfire. 20 minutes later, people would be covered in Campbell's. Of course, eventually, some got hurt. That's the way I feel about the ammo in the fire ring. It doesn't have any velocity, and chances are nothing will ever happen. But with my luck, I'd be bent over the fire, sturing it up while a 12 gauge goes off and I get a splinter in my eyeball. Hopefully, you can make it out there this fall or next spring. It's a beautiful woods.

You were just south of me this weekend. I was camping up in the Chippewa along the Woodtick Trail. Lots of hunting going on but my son and I found some solitude when we hiked along the North Country Trail and followed a few old forest trails until they disappeared. The stars did come out later around ~3 or 4 am- I only know that because a loud truck trying to barrel through the rugged forest road near our campsite woke me up about that time and I went outside to see what was going on. Anyways can't beat biscuits and gravy. I need to check out Foothills. I think I have an old DNR map of it someplace. Keep up the adventures- I am amazed at how many dispersed campsites you find.

I was reflecting about what you said in the beginning about solitude and remember what Jean-Paul Sartre said that "if you are lonely when you're alone, you are in bad company." Another fascinating one which i think you mentioned in one of your old videos is by May Sarton, "Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self." Once again thank you so very much sir. I hope you have a stress-free and amazing week ahead. Until next week when the baby joins in on the adventure. Stay blessed !!!

Scary episode. Biscuits and gravy looks really yummy. Something I would never fix while camping, plus I don’t have a stove.

@@KennyOfAllTrades My daughter loved the Adele appearances and we talked about what a cute nickname Dell is. As a parent (and Duramax owner 👍🏻😄) it’s great to see the quality time spent together in the woods. Keep up the great work dude! We’ll be tuning in.

Good evening from Godley Texas, currently at Fort Parker State Park, noises are always amplified in darkness. That or our Spider senses are at optimal level. Great location with the Fall colors. Stay safe and happy travels 😎

Oh my goodness! Beautiful fall colors and the roads you take your truck camper on! You’re braver than I am! And I hope you don’t pinpoint the campsites, I think even I can find the places you take us to. Looking forward to next week’s video ❤

For the gravy, personally I recommend saving bacon and sausage grease for later. To some that may sound weird or even gross but, keeping a little jar or coffee cup of pork grease in the fridge (for such an occasion) is how we do it the south. And we put gravy on EVERYTHING so, who ya gonna trust?? Also, the type of milk you ise has a huge impact on flavor and consistency. I was taught to use a 50/50 mix of evaporated milk in a can with 2%. Alternatively, you could also use whole milk. Add a GOOD dose of s/p and voila!

I saw the bacon grease tip in a recipe. It makes sense. My grandma lives in Michigan. As a kid, I would spend my summer breaks with her. She always saved bacon grease. I remember Grandpa would wake up at 4:30 am. Grandma would make him bacon, eggs, and toast every morning. He then headed to the cafe where he shook dice until 8am. Those were the good ol' days.

@@KennyOfAllTrades When I spent weekends with my mamaw and papaw, Saturday morning biscuits and gravy were the standard. Mamaw cooked the sausage or bacon, eggs, and biscuits. Papaw was responsible for the sawmill gravy and thats how I learned to cook it. I miss those times too! Definitely blessed!!

Sorry about the window. You know what they say, if you ain’t reckin you ain’t racing! Lol. Love the fall colors! I challenge you to make Cobbler in a Dutch Oven over the fire sometime. Your choice, peach, blackberry, cherry, etc…. Whatever you like. Blackberry Cobbler was probably the best camping treat I’ve ever had.

I might have to try that this weekend. Thanks for watching.
