I never even thought i was needed such a channel in my life, but since my old age and grumpiness got the better of me and after lots of disappointment over modern triple A titles i can say that Splat puts a smile in my everyday face and some very cool titles in my library and for that i can never be too thankful for the work he puts in this every single day.

That was my first thought, too. Until I remembered some truly beautiful granite statues from ancient Egypt. One of my favorites is a falcon. Simple, elegant...thousands of years old. In short, rocks rock.

13:30 Maybe it genuinely cant smelt iron (doubt it though since it seems you need iron bars to built the iron tier workbench so how else would you get there) but you put the fuel and ore in the wrong slots, so it wouldn't have worked regardless.

11:45 Also little need to conserve wood like that. When the job finishes, the fire is paused and won't consume any additional fuel. Unrealistic, but a nice comfort feature. Wooden items (like chairs, tables etc) can be used as fuel, too. 10:53 The little plant on the ground should be the one to provide nectar for healing items. As far as weapons go, spears are my fave against melee enemies. When they hit, they push the target, giving you more time to back away. Swords do more DPS but less knockback and are good against bow users. Daggers are rather weak (short range, low damage, mediocre DPS). Axes are primarily tools for harvesting (wood, furniture, appliances). About crafting and containers, you can use differently colored containers to keep your stuff ordered and tidy, and use some logical placement, e.g. raw food > stove > finished meals, or ore&fuel > furnace > metals > anvil > weapons. Mushrooms are an OK food which can grow underground, but always cook them before eating.

What makes dwarf fortress very special is because it provides you a living world. Demons, monsters and undead may have been around hundreds of years before they visit your settlement... and may wreck havoc for many years on civilizations while you're playing before visiting you. The vast majority of games have the demons, monsters and undead all passively waiting in some location for you to come kill them (making them literally couch potatoes). Also the trading, building, traps you create, mining and battles are also all great fun.

Around 2-3 years ago i played the game, going as far as finishing the story (up to the point it was developed then). Been keeping tabs on the game and i can see that it's even better than it was. At the time it was already quite engaging and fun, but the plethora of new mechanics, reworks, rebalances and things to do is amazing. At some point, i will surely get back into it, going through the full story to see the final ending (which i haven't yet, as it wasn't in the game yet).

I need to try this one out, I'm really curious to see how far you can go with the leveling/mutation system. I like that it takes into account the use of resources of different tiers all through the game even passed their original use, so you're always progressing in a way, whatever you're doing.

some resources get a use in tier n and tier n+1. it's particularly weird that once you're finally done building, say, your full iron set, you unlock goblin equipment that's made of iron (again) and some other stuff. so instead of reusing old unused resources it introduces more need for the resource that you have literally just used. I wish it was more than that, but not really, you do tend to stockpile lots of low tier resources that you don't need.

Unless things have been rebalanced there is a low to mid tier boss you literally can't beat on the hardest difficulty because it's regen is insanely high. Had to basically continuously bomb it with an explosive barrel chain reactions but had to have like 2 stack of explosive barrels. Basically place a barrel and blow it up then start placing more barrels in the blast.

The people of Ludeon are aware of this game and have confirmed that nothing of theirs was stolen lol On their forum they even spoke out against people who were ripping into the game for being so similar: "I read through this thread and just shake my head multiple times over how toxic and disrespectful multiple members of our community are being over a single game on Steam that has a similar look to RimWorld despite: 1. Not having any point for point RimWorld graphics 2. Literally nothing of ours was stolen 3. I follow a few gaming channels, mostly ones that do in depth reviews / retrospectives. Your channel is slightly different but ir really easy to listen to. You've covered a few games that i've been replaying recently, Evil Genius, Dawn of man, Home wars and Dead State. I've been thinking of a game recently that you or your followers may know of but i have tried to find it. It would be 4-5 years ago, i can't remember the name, i can't remember if it was in development or a released beta, it might have been fully released. It was set in a fantasy environment where you are on a environment that floated like clouds. It including trees, small hills and rivers. During the day you would go down to the surface to gather resources while the the creatures slept, then during the night they would climb the chains that anchored your floating habitat and raid you back while you tried to build your habitat and shore up your defences. The game may have been abandoned. Anyway, nice channel.

This game is no doubt fun. I've played it to the point of nearly completion. What I didn't understand is why is there any building system, because as it stands it serves no purpose. Nothing ever attacks your base, and you can put torchs to stop anything spawning near you base. If they could give it more a rimworld feel that you get attacked and need to set up defenses then that would be nice. However, I doubt that'll ever be the case as you can just as easily build on the 19th floor as you can on the above ground areas.
