The ketogenic diet is all the rage, but is it really ok to eat so much fat..? Well, depending on the rest of your gut function, microbiota, and nutritional intake, the answer might be no! Unfortunately, high-fat diets are well known to cause leaky gut, metabolic endotoxemia (think: leaky gut on steroids), mast cell degranulation, and a decrease in Bifidobacteria (good bacteria) and an increase in Proteobacteria (bad bacteria).
Some research:
- Keto aggravates colitis and increases Proteobacteria (bad guys)

- Keto increases Proteobacteria (bad guys) and reduces Bifidobacteria (good guys)

- Increase in Enterobacteriaceae (bad guys) and decreased Bifidobacteria (good guys)
