This is such a great idea! I've found I can't tolerate the flavored versions of electrolytes, because they usually have citric acid added. Citric acid burns my gums and other mouth tissues! I couldn't figure out why my mouth and gums were so inflamed, and I narrowed it down to the powdered electrolytes. The unflavored versions don't typically have citric acid, but they aren't very tasty! I appreciate having this recipe, as I could flavor it how I want without the citric acid. And I'm sure it's also much cheaper!

@cynthiagilbreth1352Ай бұрын
I’ve made this many times as well. I usually use the whole jar if the magnesium malate and then figure out the proportions for the potassium and sodium. However, I reduce the sodium by 3/4, as it’s too salty with the entire amount. I prefer to use the salt on food. Also, since I eat fish I don’t bother with the sea salt. Eventually the Greek sea salt has micro plastics in it according to some research I’ve seen. And by the way, Redmonds is sea salt, from ancient sea beds.

With their formula, I have concerns about taking magnesium without calcium and creating an imbalance. Why I no longer buy their product. The ideal ratio of calcium to magnesium (Ca:Mg) in your diet is between 2:1 and 3:1. This ratio is important because calcium and magnesium compete for absorption in the small intestine. A ratio outside of this range may harm bone health and increase the risk of other health issues
@KetogenicWomanАй бұрын
The beauty of making it yourself is that you can change the ratios to whatever you think is best.

Did not know this. So much calcium would we need to add?
@denisebotko745613 күн бұрын
@nightlady2001 The ideal ratio of calcium to magnesium is 2:1. This means that for every 1000 mg of calcium you consume, you should also consume 500 mg of magnesium. A balance of calcium and magnesium is important because they work together in the body. Calcium is found outside cells, while magnesium is found inside cells. Calcium helps muscles contract and bones, while magnesium helps muscles relax and soft tissue

I only had lime, but that is the beauty of the recipe! You can use whatever you like!

Does the LMNT recipe include the hidden maltodextrin? 😄
@NavyWifeАй бұрын
You will only have Maltodextrin if your flavoring just happened to have it in it. The three ingredients are all natural and do not contain Maltodextrin.

Somehow that math did not seem to match and I am not that good at math. If each tablespoon is 15 mL, which it is; and 1 teaspoon is 5 mL, which it is: 0.5 tsp = 2.5 mL. So if each serving is half a teaspoon (2.5 mL), there would be six servings in each 15 mL/tablespoon. Or are my eyes going cross?
@KetogenicWomanАй бұрын
The end result was 2 tbsp (6 teaspoons). So a heaping 1/2 tsp would get you approximately 1/10th of the recipe. It's also fine to just go with a level 1/2 teaspoon which would make this 12 servings instead of 10.

@@NavyWife No Salt does not have sodium. Sodium is the "bad" element in table salt. I believe they use potassium chloride.

@karynstouffer3562Ай бұрын
@YeshuaKingMessiah I didn't say that sodium was "bad." I said that sodium is not in the product "No Salt." And, sodium is not in all salts. Some are made with potassium, calcium, etc. The only time sodium is bad for someone is when they have sodium-reactive hypertension, which it sounds like what this threads' original commenter stated.

Mililiters we refer to when we scale liquids, for powder we use grams. And LMNT is not an honest company any longer their products contains maltodextrine. I would advertise them anymore. They lied to us.
@PinkLady54Ай бұрын
Some of her recent videos, she addresses this fact, of which nearly everyone now is aware. She is under contract to LMNT for another few shows, will finish her contract & then be done. Complying with her contract is why she is making 'lmnt' off their website that has NO shaky ingredients added unless the individual adds them. ☺️

I'm sure they have plenty of people that want the convenience of buying the packets still. Plus maybe trying to help the people who can't afford or wouldn't buy it anyway to be healthier. Keto chow does it too. I have made their recipe too. Happy to find that because they use a laxative form of magnesium (boo!) so I can make my own. I just skip the addition of mag powder and take mag glyconate caps. But might try malate in it as it's supposed to be less likely to cause diarrhea and must not taste too bad in powder form since they use it in lmnt
