Great video I need to know the levels of ketosis thanks. I have been on omad for about 6 months and my blood readings are between 75 to 95 with 1.2 to 2.5 ketones. I have lost around 50 pounds. I also have type 2 diabetes and prostrate cancer. I feel better than I have for the last 30 years. I am 70 years old. Thank you so much for all of your videos. I feel they have saved my life.

Thank you! I needed this. My ketones are only ever between 1 & 2. I was thinking I was doing something wrong. However, I am losing weight I just thought if my ketones were higher I’d lose more weight faster. Now I know I’ll stick to my levels. It’s working for me. Thank you! Your videos are extraordinarily helpful!!!

Thanks so much for all your information. I started keto last week, researched and eased into it gently. Had some issues with stomach due to no gallbladder and too much dairy, but lost 4 pounds in first 4 days, inflammation gone and loads more energy. One of your team advised MCT, which I got. I also swapped dairy for goats butter. I avoided keto flu by following the advice of lots of water, extra salt and magnesium. Yesterday my ketone level was 1.4, yay, but today (day 8) it went up to 3.8. Panic! I worried that it was too high, but after watching this video I feel more reassured. It seems my liver may be just healing now that the carbs and years of excessive wine have gone and my body is in ketosis. Sadly my weight has stayed static for the last 4 days, despite being fully in ketosis. I’ll see if it all settles down. If not, I may book in for a consult with you.

It would need to be near 16, question the level if it gets to 8.0.

So if I'm stuck on 0.2, 0.3 ketones even with a longer fast 24hr or 36hr, does this mean I should check toxicity? Thanks for any advice

Question, as I become more metabolically flexible, will I be able to achieve a deeper state of ketosis? So far, even with prolonged water fasting of 5-6 days my highest level of ketones (measured by a KetoMojo) was in the 3.1-3.3 range. And usually it's not that high, more like between 1.5 and 2.5. And, it takes me about until day 3 to get my ketones up over 1.2 (measured with a KetoMoJo). When I started in April my A1C was 10.9 and now it's 7.1. I'm just wondering if as insulin resistance continues to lessen achieving ketosis during extended water fasts will become easier. TIA.

Unless someone is type 1 diabetic it's not possible to enter ketoacidosis. If your body makes insulin you will not be able to enter that state.

I have heard this a number of places. I'm not sure if it's strictly true. After two weeks carnivore my urine ketones are 16 mmol/L. Blood sugar is only 67 mg/dl. As far as I know I am not diabetic. Prior to carnivore I could eat high sugar foods without issue. I'm not sure that insulin is guaranteed protection against high ketones.

@@lenavoyles526 yeah it isn’t hugely common but not impossible. I have learned a lot since I wrote that. 🙃 Definitely keep an eye on your numbers and pay attention to how you feel. Might need to ease into it and let your body adjust a bit slower. Requiring our bodies to work in a new way abruptly can be hard on it.

That’s awesome. I used to do the same thing, question... have you tested your ketone levels after your Omad meal? Does it go down? I want to stay deep into ketosis even after a meal. Could you give me some feedback

@@danielaguilar9913 Keto levels ALWAYS go down after you eat. Food always kicks you out of Ketosis because your body has food coming in which it can now use.

This is a great video. My ketones are 1.2 - 2.1, BS 75 - 98, and my weight loss has stalled for 2 weeks. I'm eating carnivore (not hungry) and eating within an 8 hr window. Some days only 2 meals/day in 8 hrs. How do I get my body to start burning fat? I appreciate any information, thank you!

I've been doing low carb/carnivore for 3 months and have lost 25 lbs and yesterday I had labs and my A1C was 4.9 but for some reason my urine showed I had a level of 80 mg/dL for ketones. Is this bad? Why is it so high?

If you're doing a prolonged fast and your ketone meter is reading HI (over 8), and your blood sugar is low (50-70s), are you at risk of starvation ketoacidosis if you feel fine?

Ex type 2 here. Fasted a total of almost 30 days accumulated since January. I'm on day 6 of 7 day water fast and my ketones are 7.1 according to my mojo meter. Last 7 day fast I was 5.8 on the final day. How high can I go without worrying. I'm doing these fasts to reverse insulin resistance. Glucose is 98 at measuring time.

Same happened to me. But I eat everything but in moderation. I do lots of running & outdoor Excersise. My Ketosis level is 7.6 & Fasting Glucose is 99. Don't understand.

what if my keto is at 8, and glucose 68, at 48 hours into fasting? should I stop? just a little lightheaded, and feel hunger rush every couple of hours.

I tried keto for a few weeks, I was eating one meal a day, probably at quite a deficit and my ketones jumped to 8. I couldn't find out how to reduce it, or really anything about what factors influence the numbers, and can't talk to a professional in the UK as the NHS don't support it. No longer doing keto because I can't find the info to understand it fully

You don’t have to do longer than 3 day fasts to get into fasting ketosis. I started getting that range under 3 days of fasting. I broke my fast and I’m still at 80mg/dl and I’m healthy, not diabetic. Idk why it won’t go down. I eat a low carb diet. Nobody talks about what to do when HEALTHY people get into that “warning zone.”

Your ketone numbers are measured by “mM” but you don’t explain what mM is. My ketone testing strip color code scale uses mg/dL Are they the same thing? Does 5 mg/dL = 5 mM? Thank you.

I've been wanting this for so long!! Thank you Mindy! Ketone variation drives me nuts at times chasing numbers I think I should have....I personally feel pretty keto clear in a range from 1.5-2.5...but man, it gets hard to stay there when you have been in ketosis for a long time... it seems harder for me to maintain that range.

I have been in ketosis for a year now and I have a very hard time reaching even 1.0. This week I am doing the resetters for a 5 day fast to see if I can get unstuck. Staying in is very hard for me also.

You need to lower your protein and go higher on fat. You have to get fat adapted first. It took me a long time to figure this out, years. Then maybe you can fast.

I completed a 72 hour sardine fast (with the third day eating only 3 oz of sardines with skin and bones), and the next morning my blood sugar was 90 mg/dL and my ketones were 1.5. My sardine was followed by a water fast. 24 hours into the water fast, my morning blood sugar was 80 with 3.2 mMol ketones. This morning, my BG was 77 mg/dL and ketones were 4.2 mMol. I couldn’t make it to the 48 hour fast because I felt so weak, so I ate. 2 hours later my BG was 102 with ketones at 5.3! I was scared so I looked up this video and am thankful to know I’m in a safe zone! Thank you Dr Mindy!

Hi Dr. Mindy! Namaste..i'm from India. It's been a while I' m following your channel. I'm 37 years old T2 diabetic. I tried keto in the past few times. But whenever I start keto my ketone level shoots up (5 mM urine test) and blood sugar stayes at around 180 mg/dl. During keto Even I'm taking less than 20 gm of net carb, my sugar level stays high. Should I continue keto in that condition? Does it indicates high IR in lever?

Hi there Mindy. I have a question about Steve Jobs. From all my readings i've dearly noted that fasting has tremendous anti-cancerous properties. However, I was reading an article about Steve Jobs and saw that he practiced fasting for much of his life, yet he died from pancreatic cancer. He also was very picky with foods only eating certain things like carrots sometimes for weeks at a time, then other vegen friendly foods as well. Do you think having such a strange selection of food contributed to his cancer? I also read that his cancer was first diagnosed in 2003, but he lived till 2011. That seems like a long time to have pancreatic cancer. Do you think the fasting prolonged his life while he had cancer? Also if he practiced fasting, why do you think the cancer couldn't be resolved with constant low glucose environment? I feel like he is an outlier but I thought I would ask you. Appreciate it a lot if you can get back to me! Thanks

Did you notice blood sugar level going along with Ketone level >8 i.e., warning zone when fasting? I don’t think so. So I want to check with you based on what you saw.

On a 48 hour fast... right at then my glucose was 62 but my ketones were 8.0. I'm trying to reverse metabolic syndrome, prediabetes, insulin resistance... is it bad then to have high ketones? In a 96 hr fast my ketones got up to 9.5. Both times I got scared and broke my fast right away. With my ketones climbing higher and quicker with each extended fast, should I just stop doing anything longer than 24 hours? How do I reverse my metabolic syndrome and prediabetes when my ketones climb so high so quickly? 🤔

Remember that the ketones you are measuring are the ones leaving your body in your urine.

In in th)e fasting at 6.7, however I've not been fasting. I've been on a High Fat and low carb diet for 11 days. I'm now concerned and trying to get out for a while. I did a post in the Resetter Group page. I'll watch your diet variation video next. Should I be worried? I am T2D, and on this Phase (chalene's Phase It Up) my blood sugar has been incredible,even fasting is now below 100.

I decided to experiment with measuring my ketones for the first time on a fast using the ketostix which measure your ketones in urine. (I know that isn’t the best way, but I wanted to experiment.) The numbers that Dr. Mandy gives are different

Dear Doctor, I just did a test ( 2.5 hrs after wake up, no food except water). I got glucose 107 mg/dl, ketone 0.9 mmol/L, GKI 6.6 . My glucose seems high, but GKI shows I am in low ketosis. Do these numbers indicate any health concerns? Thank you so much!

Dr Mindy, I really need your advice. Ketone numbers had been good throughout September but yesterday bs went from 101 / ketone 2.4 to 93 / 1.3. Ketone went down instead of up. Today though fasting BS 110. Ketone 0.4 and before first meal BS 103 and Ketone stayed the same. Why all of a sudden the Ketone has gone down so much and its not going up. Thanks!

What number is a safe blood glucose and blood ketone level? I did a test this morning and these are my numbers: glucose 59 mg/dl, ketones 6.4 mmol/L, GKI 0.5. I'm 64 hours into my water only fasting. Are my numbers good? Or should I break my fast

Thank you for this video. I was a little confused looking up ketone levels. But I knew finding dr Mindy, she would answer my concerns. I’m attempting to do a 21 day fast. Im currently on day 6 and my ketone level is 4.7. I felt great up to today. felt a little keto flu on day 4 and 5 otherwise great. Not hungry and had energy. But today I feel sleepy with my ketone at 4.7. I have the keto mojo as well. I may stop at day 10 but we will see. Thanks Dr Mindy!

What do you say about fasting for Histamine-intolerant people? Some studies suggest these people can have more histamine produced if they fast. Any thoughts?

My sister has normal morning ketone levels of 4 or 5 easily! She is on 3 meals a day. How could this be?? The meter is working properly as my low ketones are showing correctly. She is in a wheelchair and cant walk, could this be ketones stimulating, sitting all day??

My question is how long do I stay in therapeutic ketosis. End of last year I went 5 day water fast and reached a level of 7.3 as the fast ended. Should I have stayed at that level for a little longer? My glucose was under 80 if I remember. I'm trying to reverse insulin resistance and I no longer take any medication but my fasting to high range is around 100-140.

I easily reached the theraputic level of ketosis of 3.4 mmol/L with the carnivore diet. I just eat bacon and eggs twice a day. If I am too lazy to cook, I just have a can of sardines. It is very easy, I don't even exercise and have to kind of force myself to eat because of how not hungry I am.

I am 5'4" and 110lb, not diabetic. My ketone is 0.1mmol/L, and glucose is 80mg/dl. Is this problematic? thank you!

However, if you are trying to enter ketosis, you may need to make adjustments to your diet or lifestyle. I am on my day 7 of water fast and type 2 diabetes. My blood sugar is between 70-90 range and no medication taken during fast. My blood ketone was 3.8 on day 5 and now 5.3 on day 6. Kinda worried because of any googled answers said beyond 5 should go to doctors or ER because of ketoacidosis. Can anyone confirm that blood ketone at 5 range and blood glucose at 80-90 range is safe during extended fasting?

Just started testing my ketones and it was really informative to how much carbs I can and/or need to add. I added a small amount of carbs that my body was craving and I felt so much better and stayed in ideal ketosis.

Hi Dr. Mindy! First, I would love to thank you for your wisdom, there is so much information online and it can be quite confusing 😕. I have been doing the keto lifestyle, plus intermittent, and water fasting. My health has made many positive changes from weight loss to improved blood pressure. I did 4 days of waterfast and still are at 2.9 ketones and 4.1 glucose. And still feel tired and not great at all. I am affraid ro refeed and need to go through this fase again. (15 kg overweight)

I have been advised to try a ketogenic diet a year ago for neurological pains linked with Lyme disease and perhaps improving immunological processes involved The results have been spectacular with an easy ketosis between 1-2, OMAD, 25 kg weight loss, easy workouts, muscle regain and reversal of a T2D with normal HbA1C and fasting sugar around 110 Having reached my weight goal I have been cautiously introducing low GI carbs and some fruits Over the last months an antibiotic treatment has been reconsidered for my Lyme and I chose disulfiram that is being experimented To my surprise I discovered that disulfiram induces acetaldehyde production that had hidden my lowering ketosis, missed by my semiconductor alcool detector as alcohol or ketone whilst my blood ketones had lowered to 0,1-0,5 , fatigue, myalgia and joint pains intensified without knowing if it is a Herxheimer reaction or a side effect of disulfiram or simply the reintroduction of carbs. After 3 weeks I stopped disulfiram which is also a possible source of hypothyroidism I would be happy to have insights about interaction between disulfiram and ketosis. I plan to raise my ketosis to 1,0-3,0 mmol/l

How odd! I have had a tummy bug since last Tuesday. Ate one meal on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, none since. (Wednesday) i feel great. I'm hoping that the rest of the subcutaneous fat might go from my stomach, along with the other benefits. LXX 💱 XXL

Dear Dr thank you so much for posting this video. Regarding the dangerous numbers of ketones; I always go over into the dangerous zones when I’m purely water fasting. How do I stay within the stage 4 and not exceed this level. I assume when someone waterfasts they are purely waterfasting and not taking in calories.

Amazing video, thank you for the information, i been on the carnivore diet for a couple of weeks now, today i tested my ketones level for the first time and it was 5.5, I didn’t eat anything for around 27 hours, and walked 3.5 miles and did a weight work out i wonder if this is something that i should worry about?

I'm prediabetic. I eat all kinds of food but in moderation. I do lots of running & outdoor Excersise. My ketosis level is 7.6 & Fasting Glucose is 99. Don't understand why my Ketosis level is so high.

If you eat high fat, the fat from your food raises ketones. Cut back on fat and see if it comes down. If you fast, your ketones should get lower because it's harder to pull from body fat.

Great information as always!! Keep changing lives, any chance of a video on quantity of food to eat prior to going into a 3-5 day fast as I am already very lean the reason is immune system cell regeneration not weight loss but don't want to have too over eat to store to get through the fast. Will my body just put the brakes on my metabolism if I go into a 3 day water fast at maintenance calories? cheers

I SUCK! I’ve been on keto for 5 years. I went off keto for 4 months. Back on it now. My stress is high, strict healthy keto. After a 3 day fast only went to .07 ! Ate salad, back to .02 ! Blood mojo testing. Now 2 days later, I’m experiencing waves of dizziness, weakness.

I was doing my first 3 day water fast. 2 days was excelent, i felt good, my ketons were 4, blood G was stable low , at 2 nigt i had headache, i felt my hart beating, at morning my ketons were 13. So question is- how i can stop that to happen? And how to break up fasting when ketons are so hi? I slowly started with bone broth, then probiotics, prebiotics and protein in about 4 hours, all day my cetones were in range 10-11, i had terrible headache. At eavning my ketons are 0.5 , i feel me ok, but i think it took too much time to get aout of that condicion. Maby there is some video about this theme? I did'nt find🙃 Thank you🤗

Michele Rucker how are your numbers today? It can be scary at times. Dr Mindy says when ketones are 7.-8. Break the fast. Or when blood sugar is below 50 break the fast. You can always eat some nut butter and lower you ketones . How are you feeling is most important ? Are you new to fasting?

Christy Smith thank you for getting back in touch, my numbers started going back down now. My blood glucose was 72 this morning and my ketones were at 2.6. I felt very relieved. I have been keto for 8 months and I have been fasting fairly regularly the last 3 months but this was the first time my numbers ever scared me. I have lost 70 pounds and have been insulin resistant. My body is starting to function better now😇😇😇

I have been doing a pretty strict keto and fasting. I have been in the 3.6 range. My goal is weight loss. Is this an ok range for weight loss or should it be less? I am losing some weight but it’s been slow. Is there a way I can lose more weight. It seems like if I’m in ketosis like that, I should be losing weight faster. I have been reading your book and I have been implementing lots if your suggestions.

Dr Mindy, 9 days ago my ketone in fasting had been between 1.1 and 1.6 and the second reading had gone up between 1.2-1.9 but today the first reading was 5.3. Why is it so high all of a sudden? Thanks!

Does your GKI matter? I am doing Keto for fat loss and my Keto meter says my GKI is 2.1 (Labeled as High therapeutic Ketosis) But my Ketones register at 2.3. Am I in the optimal Ketone range for fat loss? Please help. I am so confused
