Polygon is a name that comes up regularly in comments. Usually from my international viewers. Recently, I was contacted with the chance to ride a review bike for a few weeks. This video documents my impressions of their 2020 Polygon Siskiu D7 MTB. This bike fits in the void where there aren't many options for full suspension mountain bikes - pricing ~$1200-1300.
Overall, I'm impressed with the Siskiu D7 from Polygon. IMO, it is a decent and VERY smooth riding bike for the price. I also like that they have a dropper post equipped model for just a bit more.
Comment below with your thoughts on this bike. Is it a good value for the features to you?

While I've never heard of this brand, it is refreshing to see that making a budget-priced full-suspension bike that is actually viable is possible. Hopefully, some of the bigger brand companies take note, and follow suit.

Whoa I never clicked so fast, I bought this bike in December after shopping for months and even testing an Orbea hardtail for a week. This Bike is superb for the cost, I've only changed the grips and pedals. I'm really enjoying this bike, it is definitely an entry level full suspension, which is what I wanted but most bike shops here started at 2 grand or more. I think this bike is built for people who want to trail ride and hits the bumps and small jumps, I wouldn't go risking life or limb on it. Oh and thanks kevcentral, it was you that got me back into MTB, I took a hiatus when we had kids, now I'm old and on a budget, but mostly old.

Polygon is a brand of Insera Sena of Indonesia. They also own the Marin brand nowadays plus they are a big OEM supplier to many shop brands and larger brands. The Calibre Bossnut is a popular budget dual suspension bike in the UK made by Insera Sena. They also do some of the Halford's brand bikes in the UK. I believe they have done bikes for brands like Scott and Kona. If your bike has a made in indonesia sticker its probably Insera Sena as they are the major bike manufacturer in that country. I don't think there are any other major bike manufacturers there.

This is a anomaly in the scheme of bike production and its only producing frames in 6061 aluminum. Until the public realizes CHINA is the ONLY place where 100 percent compete bikes can be made then your only purchasing through middlemen and assemblers. Get what you want but bikes if high quality come from China exclusively, and thats not going to change in your lifetime.
@bonzobanana1
@bonzobanana1 4 жыл бұрын
@@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 Yes it is difficult to build a bike without some Chinese made components especially at entry level prices but many bike factories in the far east are more than assemblers, they manufacture the frame and forks, sometimes the rims and lace the wheels themselves and Shimano has many factories outside China but in the far east. Also Taiwan (Republic of China) is different to mainland China (People's Republic of China), Taiwan are by far the best country for high quality components at mid-level prices. Even high end BMW cars have loads of electronics and components made in China, China is the workshop of the world. I think its important to understand factories in the far east do manufacture more of the bike than US and European brands which often import fully assembled bikes from the far east or just do assembly work. I think its fair to call Insera Sena a manufacturer but most US and European brands are really importers. The most important thing is Insera Sena are producing a quality frame and bike that undercuts the price of similar bikes made in other countries, they are providing perhaps the maximum quality vs price point currently and maybe minimising their profit in order to achieve higher market share for their brand. You may find in 3 years their prices are far less competitive.
@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921
@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 4 жыл бұрын
This bike is only worth about 800 bucks compared with other brands offering a higher standard package from China direct suppliers. Its simply isnt a competitive price anymore. This channel has a major problem with current offers that exceed this level because of this bizarre anti China craziness that hasnt brought one job back to anyone. Its hilarious what is being offered to children in Europe vs what is shown on this channel. This style of middle end bike is in supermarkets for 800 bucks or less here, and Americans can purchase them for the same price.
@bonzobanana1
@bonzobanana1 4 жыл бұрын
@@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 I'm not sure what you mean the frames are good quality, they have been used by brands like Kona and Scott and are no worse than many more famous brand bikes. Many of the other components are the same as fitted to much more expensive bikes anyway. Mainland China has some truly terrible bike factories to some super high quality factories, being made in mainland China doesn't really indicate the quality level as it varies so much. Giant probably make the best mass produced frames, their top end bikes are made in Taiwan and their cheaper models in mainland China and those mainland China models probably have higher engineering standards than Insera Sena (Polygon) but then there are other factories who are inferior that many top brands use. Dorel use some pretty low end factories for their brands much inferior to Insera Sena.

I bought one of these thanks to this review. I can confirm that there is much less space between the medium frames I got and the tire since I went with the 29" tires. To add to his review... I have done a decent amount of drops and jumps with my bike, it has zero issues with anything I have thrown at it so far. Drops go from small rock drops to a 3-4 foot wooden drop to mostly flat. I've done a few jumps some landing to flat and some not. None of this has ever pushed the ring off the rear shock. I'm 195-200lbs. If you do get this bike and run it on any rocky terrain do yourself a favor and run the tires at 25psi max as I got 3 flats running at 30psi. Note: they did send me the bike with contaminated brake pads as they assemble and test the bike before sending it to you and no one told the tester to clean the shipping gunk off the discs first.

I'm late on the polygon train but I just bought myself the 2021 polygon siskiu d7 dropper post edition 29er with large frame today. Its a pretty substantial upgrade for me since I have been riding my mongoose xr pro 29er for the last 6 years. Last year, I upgraded my xr pro as you did (albeit with a couple better components) but I absolutely love my mongoose now. Anyway, I'm a super huge fan of your channel so thank you for all the mongoose vids (and all of the other big box store builds you've done). It made me feel good to know I wasn't the only fan of the xr pro. I'm sure I will love my new polygon once it ships in October but I won't forget about my xr pro. Its been with me through thick and thin, and a couple of knarly accidents to boot. Again, thanks for the reviews and for being an advocate for all of us budget minded folks. Stay safe and God Bless.

@binkzera2777
@binkzera2777 4 жыл бұрын
Flying Lap Productions Just because a bikes handling is slowed down, doesn’t mean it’s bad. As an entry level mountain bike, I would argue that slowing down the handling, and making the bike more stable is a good idea, as it makes the bike more confidence inspiring, and makes for an easier ride, which is usually good for beginners. Sure, compared to an XC race bike, this bike might feel a bit sluggish, but this bike is not an XC race bike, and you shouldn’t treat it as such, in fact it looks a pretty capable trail bike that could easily go off some jumps, drops, and some pretty technical features.
@obi-wankenobi9871
@obi-wankenobi9871 4 жыл бұрын
@@archetypex65 It doesnt matter on an entry level bike. A beginner hasnt ridden a ton of high end bikes before, so he hasnt developed a taste for bikes yet. You can put a beginner on pretty much any quality frame and they will like it. The first proper bike wont feel sluggish or flickable, it will simply feel like a bike. Having some more spability can really help a beginner when negotiating technical terrain and the slower handling reinforces good cornering technique, since the bike takes a little more efford to turn around.

Been on a Polygon T6 since Dec 2018. Got the bike through a rep of theirs so really didn't get warranty support which I could use but their US importer was going to go out of his way to help me if really wanted super good peeps. Over all I have upgraded my brakes TRP Trail SLs or Quadiems, Sped Precision carbon wheels, Eagle cassette, XTR 2x11 and Spank Vibrocore handle bars, Fox transfer with kashima dropper and soon going DVO shocks XTR cranks and this bike will keep me going for about another 5-8 years+ very good base to start on for people. I am a ex DH rider speaking of X Fusion I was their first USA DH racer in the 2000s and know their engineers respect riders feed back and have built what i feel is a top 3 MFG for shocks world wide since I have been around with them over 20 years. You pointed at the handle bars as a issue 780 are for people who are more aggressive and want to grind up and down. Someone who wants to blast downhill as fast as they can on a 120, 130, 140 like a 160-170 enduro bike. Longer chain stay also help with that factor and like my bike from 2017 mud clearance is a issue for me but not anymore on the 2020s. If you look at their sponsored riders many of there are playful type riders if you keep riding their bikes and find their limits you will see they all have that focus on the fast DH. My T6 with 2.5/2.4 Minion DH casing tires at 140mm front and back eats rock gardens up and have zero issues. I trust this bike 110% give it the respect and it gives it all back 10 fold. If it was easier to get in the USA I would probably get one again.

Hey Kev! Great video as always! I work as a bike designer so thought you might be interested to know that Polygon is actually the "own brand" of the factory that produces a lot of other brand's bikes! Those entity branded parts look like Raleigh branded parts for a reason! They both buy them from someone else (likely Zoom) and put their names on it, looks like they both just picked the same bits! This is a very common practice though so I wouldn't hold it against either brand. Finally, are you aware of SRAM's "trailhead" app/website? You put your forks serial number in, give it your weight and it'll tell you how to set your fork up near perfectly! Can't wait for your next videos!

The mediums are available with the option of 27.5" or 29" wheels. It's good that the bars come a little wide so they can be cut to the preference of the individual rider. The current version comes with a TransX dropper and a Rockshox Deluxe shock. Still about the best bike you can get for the price point. I typically ride bike that cost more than double what this bike costs, but I had no complaints riding the D7. It climbs like a rocket, and is plush where it should be. I ended up buying one for my wife, who is a more casual rider. Honestly I have a blast hopping on it once in a while and showing her what it can do.

I was about to rant on how bike manufacturers put XT rear mechs and cheap out on rest of the components evidenced here by SLX shifters, sunrace cassette and the MT200 brakes, but then I heard the price and it's really an ok spec. Sure - the MT200 levers are awful and first to be changed, but I've seen much worse spec for that kind of money. I had a few pairs of WTB mountain and gravel tires and they all were tubeless ready and easy to fit that way. I like for how WTB doesn't do the "pay us 20% or more" for the TL / TLE letters on premium tires. Regarding rear space - looks like universal rear triangle for plus size tires (up to 3" width)... and 29". As per the brand - they've been on my radar since I watch Downhill World Cup and Tracey Hannah has been pretty successful on their bikes.

I believe the reason for the longer chain stay is to give stability at high speed or down hill riding, as a longer wheel base is more stable, but only having 120mm or travel, I would classify this bike in more of the down country or trail category, which I think should have short, snappy rear ends.

The clearance in the rear is likely for larger tires, WTB tires are almost all their TCS(tubeless compatible system). You set the pressure in the shock using the sag ring, that rubber band on the stanchion, usually around 25-30% of the stroke, body weight +10psi is a decent starter depending on the max pressure of the shock. The gap in the rear end? Check the weather in Indonesia. It's more than likely an %199 chance of rain. That clearance is needed for mud buildup. I have family in Malaysia, and the last time we visited them I rented a T8 and an N9. I did try to rent a D7, but they only had small sizes (because Malaysia) The best way to describe them. The N9 was better at going down. The T8 was better at everything else. I didn't really get to experiment with air pressures much. But all in all they were pretty good bikes.

Thank you for the review. I'm a trek marlin owner and have wanted a full sus since about a month after I bought my marlin. Been looking at this bike from day one. But there are no proper north American reviews until today. I have a dropper on my marlin that I can put on this bike and shorten the bars to my 730mm preference. And I think I'd be set to ride my (not for bikes) flat ungroomed snowmobile trails in my local forests. Thanks again!

I have the Marin B-17 1, which is of similar spec to the Hawk Hill 2, just with 27.5+ tires. The geometry is killer (surprisingly playful for a 27.5+) and it sounds like that’s one area the polygon is weak in. Slightly biased, but I’d still save for the Marin. I’d buy another in a heartbeat.

I would definitely do some research into what Sag is for setting up your rear shock. It's the reason the bike doesn't come with an air chart as every frame an shock combo is going to have a different air pressure to get the correct sag. Also the excessive space is probably just for clearance for bigger tires, it might be plus tire(3in) compatible, and if not it probably has at least clearance for a 2.6 (which is pretty much standard on most bikes) where as the stock tires look pretty narrow. Bike design also isn't as simple as just making the chainstay as short as possible, if that were the case ever brand would be doing it. I would imagine it only feel sluggish because you are used to riding outdated geometry dept. Store bike, where something like this will feel a million times better the second you even hit a whiff of a decent.

I have been riding this Siskiu d7 L size with 29” wheels since its release in 2019 and i ride it if i want a less aggressive ride along the trail . I only upgraded it with a dropper post and changed the pedals that came with it. And i have no complain whatsoever specially with the price I’ve paid. I’m giving it a thumbs up. Again, i only ride it if i wanna ride a LESS aggressive trail ride as i had my shares of crashes with it. I still ride my enduro bike (from another brand) if i wanna ride a more aggressive ride.

Pretty great looking bike for the money! The Geo though, it's a head scratchier. I love that they offer longer chain stays for taller riders (more brands should be doing this!), but then they have a shorter wheelbase and reach that gives the bike a kinda short front center. Add to that a really steep seat tube and tall stack it makes the bike pretty odd on paper. I'd have to ride it for a bit to figure out what they were going for.
@trailtalkmtb6603
@trailtalkmtb6603 4 жыл бұрын
432mm on the smaller sizes and 436mm on the bigger sizes are still pretty short and 465mm reach isnt that short, very similar to my Marin Alpine Trail. The stack measurements on the geo chart definitely arent right. It actually feels like a modern short travel trail bike to ride. Rides very similar to a Gt Sensor, Giant Trance 29 etc, just slightly steeper head angle.

The geo on the bike actually looks pretty darn good. 432mm for a chainstay isn’t out of the norm. Head tube angle is 67, and wheelbase is 1152mm. So it’s not really slack and or long. In comparison to other modern mountain bikes it should be plenty nimble, with enough length to make it feel stable at fast speeds. Nice thing about 780mm bars is you have the option to cut them down. You can’t go the other direction. I would recommend this to someone wanting to get into mountain biking. Love the looks too.

I have the medium 29er version of the D7. Absolutely love it! The Trail Boss tires that are on it are wire bead. I replaced them after a ride or two with WTB Vigilante Tubeless compatible tires. They were a PAIN to get on the rims and setup tubeless. I’ve actually found the D7 to be quite nimble in turns. Not as nimble as my 27.5 Diamondback but that bike has a much shorter wheelbase than the D7 and steeper HT angle. The X-Fusion shock has become one of my favorites. Really enjoyed your review of this bike. I hope the more you ride it, the more you enjoy it!

Hi Kevin, Your viewers might be interested in how some of the better used or "vintage" bikes compare. I just bought a (dual suspension/full suspension) XT/XTR K2 Attack 3.0 for $175, and it's great fun. Reviews often mentioned that it handles like a much more expensive bike. By luck or by design, it hit a sweet spot and rides really well. It was fairly popular, and can be found on the used market. Try finding a new XT/XTR bike for anywhere near this price. I'm very happy with it. I even like the look and the color scheme. Many of your viewers would appreciate the quaity-to-price ratio of some of these excellent used bikes.

Entity is Polygon's in-house brand. Also, even though the WTB tires don't say they're tubeless, you can run them as tubeless tires. I did have experience with them weeping after a time, so add more sealant than you think. Also, x-fusion does make some good stuff. It can take a beating and keep on ticking. There is a bit of advice for the rebound knob on the x-fusion shock, though... It does have clicks going in the other direction, but they're borderline not defined. If you rotate it slowly enough, you can feel the indentation of where the click is supposed to be.

The chainstay is long so that the bike is more balanced. It puts more weight on the front wheel so it’s more stable when you’re going fast and it gives you more traction on the front wheel. It also leaves room for mud so the mud doesn’t stop the wheel from spinning

What's going on is an extremely steep seat tube angle. The chainstay is 432mm long, aka normal. The seat tube is very steep at 70deg. That also means the reach gets short so you are way over the front and will not lend to fun geo. It does, however, solve some suspension related climbing issues by putting the seat forward allowing more power from the rider. It's an engineering solution to lessen the cost of the manufacturer and still overall provide a decent riding bike.
