The Mongoose Ledge X1 is massively popular, now get ready for its big brother, the Mongoose Ledge X2! The X2 brings many of the same features as the X1, 17" dropper post ready alloy full suspension frame with internal cable routing, wide oversized handlebars, wide rims that work with tires up to 2.6", but it also has many new features that set it apart...like a QR rear wheel, cassette, the fact that it's a 29er, larger front brake rotor, alloy pedals, alloy hubs, and more!
See the Ledge X2 on the Walmart website:

You know I'm a big mongoose fan. I love that they are changing what type of bikes they are putting out to Wal-Mart. I would suggest taking it to bike bike shop for them to assemble verses buying it already pre assemble at Wal-Mart. Kev I'm not sure if your channel is the cause to these new changes or not but it sure seems like it.. Nice job...

@@KevCentral I thought there was gonna be a ks dropper post on the x2's? like the axum dp? I still ordered it because my x1 came with a paint chip on the head tube and missing nut on one of the wheels making them wobble when tightened with quick release. Kinda sad they aren't stickers as I wanted to debadge them.
@treadmedia1777
@treadmedia1777 3 жыл бұрын
@@coastaku1954 upgrade path is way easier if they already have cassette hubs, you just swap cassettes to whichever one you end up buying as an upgrade as they are interchangeable with a simple tool. Without the cassette hubs we would either have to buy a whole new wheel set or buy new hubs and would have to re spoke them. It's not hard, just time/money consuming.

Man it's great to see Mongoose going all out with the X2! I'm most glad to see that they've finally got the the proper cassette on there especially. But one thing I think these bikes need to come with are hydraulic brakes. Like some very budget Tektro's. It may be awhile until that happens, but we'll see! I don't ride any big box store bikes, and I like paying the extra bucks to get nicer bike. But you've gotta give credit to Mongoose, Schwinn, etc. They've really upped their game, and I think it's helping other big name brands realize what people want. Hopefully it'll encourage those big brands to lower prices in some ways. Anyway, great video as always!
@TivonSanders
@TivonSanders Жыл бұрын
The question that needs to be asked though, is that whether or not the average consumer is ready for the upkeep and maintenance needed to take care of a hydraulic brake system on a bike, of all things. I guarantee you that if I asked around Detroit, a lot of people would be surprised and even question the thought of a bike having hydraulic brakes.

This guy gets it! Throw in functional brakes and hubs that don't rattle after the first ride too.. I returned the x1 for these issues and more. How long before hydrolic brakes and air shocks cost the same as coil forks ya know? Throw it all in ;) $500 is a lot for a mongoose
@dangerous8333
@dangerous8333 3 жыл бұрын
@@Chris-bx4vk I don't agree with that philosophy. What you're asking for is an upgrade in components, which could drive up the cost. What Timothy is saying wouldn't add to the cost. In my opinion these budget bikes are designed for leisure rides or for the owner to upgrade. The less the company does in my opinion the better. Because no matter what components they put on it, for $500 they aren't going to be good and will need to be replaced anyway, IF you plan to do any serious mountain biking with these. Hence why many people are saying they wish they could buy just the frame. I think some people shouldn't be buying budget bikes if you're expecting them to come with everything you need, that's just never going to happen at this price point. In my opinion you really need mechanical skills and to be smart with your purchases to make budget bikes actually capable. People that need the companies to put better components on budget bikes would probably be better off buying a bike from a shop in the $1,200 range. I'm at $1,200 on my Axum DP and now it's better than a bike you can buy in the store for $1,200. I've seen people spend almost the same amount on all these budget parts that are barely an upgrade. If the companies were to put slightly better components on these and jack up the price a couple hundred dollars, I wouldn't even buy it. You need the skills to make budget bikes work imo, and I don't think many of these budget bike buyers have the skills. They're either going to be stuck with a budget bike forever, or might end up spending more in the long run having to replace all the budget "upgrades" they put on them. Budget bikes are for children and people with mechanical skills that can spin hay into gold. People on a budget who don't have mechanical skills are wasting their money on budget bikes. Those people that put buckulos forks and other crap on their bikes and now they're $800 in. Well I hate to break it to you, but your bike is still budget. You didn't add any value to it at all, and barely improved its capability.

Why not just put a slightly better fork on it. Like $400 range. You're already saving a ton of money on the bike. The fork is an extremely important part of a bike that I wouldn't skimp out on, ESPECIALLY on a full suspension. I'd try and save money in other places. My philosophy with these budget builds is not to keep them budget, but to build them into something that's better than I can purchase in the store for $1200. I can afford an expensive bike but I'm frugal and I started looking at budget bikes after my research made me realize that most people had to upgrade the forks on their $1,200 bikes as well. So it made sense to start at $500 and work my way up to 1200 as opposed to starting at $1200 and, well you get the idea.

Hey Kev, thanks for the update. I was half expecting ks dropper post like you mentioned from your live stream a little while back. $500 is starting to get closer to local bike shop prices, it would've been nice to have a dropper post like the axum DP. IMO the x1 should be $350 at most and the x2 should be $400-450. That said the frame is very capable, took the Ledge x1 in stage 2(160mm fork dnm, rear shock, cheap mechanical dropper post, mostly stolen... borrowed from my other bikes) to a local DH track and it did very well. As a vertically challenged rider with barely 28 inch inseam I hope the x2 still fits well, if not I'll be swapping in 26 inch tires. I find it odd that they are trying to market it for bigger riders, as it is a size medium but the cockpit is closer in size to my small Polygon siskiu d5.

So my Ledge X2 showed up 18 days early from their scheduled delivery date. Box was in good shape, only a couple bumps. Everything inside was as it should be. It snowed 2 or 3 inches yesterday so im not riding it yet but have a few observations. Looking at the tires i thought they looked the same as the XR Pro, (have both bikes side by side) measured them with a caliper sure enough, they are the exact same size, these are not true 2.25. The brake levers are super cheesy and have lots of slop, the pro marks on the XR pro are better (I swapped them). The front fork has zero top out, you can hear it knock every time they rebound. Bike shifted through all the gears just fine and seems super smooth. Im concerned about the size of the front sprocket. While i realize this was built for off road we do a combination of off road but throw in quite a bit of bike path. Im concerned about the top end speed compared to the XR pro that im about to sell to my buddy, don't want him smoking me on the pavement. When I get a chance to ride it I'll add more information. They need to give you a salary, this is the second bike i bought because of your reviews. Keep up the good work. 👍

Another great video Kev thank you! I was at Walmart tonight considering buying the X2 because of your review. What's weird was the shifter and the derailleur were not Pro Rush branded but rather Falcon branded. The real derailleur was Falcon GYR and the shifter just said Falcon and had a see-through window to show 1-8 gears. I've never heard of this Falcon brand. How do they compare to Pro Rush? I'm wondering if your video calling out Pro Rush manufacturing defects is the reason why Mongoose has changed to this Falcon brand. But what is also weird is on the Walmart website they say the X2 has a 13-40 tooth freewheel but I thought it's supposed to have a cassette. I want to buy this bike But I'm a little concerned if it has a cassette and I'm concerned about The discrepant information on the Walmart website about freewheel and about Falcon. Mind blowing how fast new models are coming. Once the new version drops are these companies done producing the previous model such as the x1? I pulled the trigger on the x1 and order never went thru. Have been waiting on Axum DP and Women's Comp to restock. Just bought two Schwinn Taff Comps which I will most likely be returning (in transit now). Now getting two of these (as long as order processes). Ready to hear the new geometry specs and rim width! Out of the box would you recommend the Mongoose Ledge X1 or the Schwinn Axum DP?

I'm a bigger guy too. My advice, learn how to build wheels and replace the hubs or ask a shop (cheapest way). Or buy a wheel set. The hubs on these budget bikes are garbage. The front hub on my Axum literally blew out on my first ride and I had to walk 2 miles back to my truck. When you change your hub you can change to a cassette. Really cheap if you do everything yourself. As a bigger guy, or if you want to really get serious on the trails, you'll have to understand these cheap forks aren't going to work for you. Not to mention, I would never put a budget fork on a full suspension bike. If I wasn't going to get crazy on a full suspension bike I would just buy a hardtail. You'll need 34 mm stanchions minimum. You'll have to spend a little more than others, but those budget forks people buy aren't going to last that long unless they don't ride hard. They'll be buying another fork down the road and in the end they'll have spent as much money as you. You might as well get something good the first time and then you can transfer it to your next bike. My recommendation. Try to find the Bomber Z2 for $420 on sale. Hands down the best fork under $500. I love it, and I weigh more than you, and I'm 6'2. Trust me it's still worth it. Every $1,200 bike I looked at needed the fork to be upgraded still. So I didn't see the point starting at $1200. You saved a ton of money getting a budget bike. Spend a little more money on your fork and try to save money in other areas, and don't worry if your budget bike gets up into the $1,200 range. I guarantee if you're smart your custom built $1,200 bike will be better than a store-bought $1,200 bike, and that's the idea.

So basically if you want a hard tail, Pacific Cycle has the Schwinn for $348, and if you want a FS bike, they have this Mongoose for $150 more. Is the rear suspension worth that? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️ Not that I am in the market for a bike but the Schwinn would not fit me; too big of a frame.

Well let's see on her maiden voyage the rear suspension started creaking 2 miles into a 7 mile ride and got progressively worse the rest of the ride. Headset was also popping by the end of the ride. Got home disassembled the headset and found some foreign material in the upper bearing. I think it was some kind of assembly glue. And as usual for Pacific Cycle there was no grease to speak of. Rear suspension turned out to be the shock mounting pins, greased them up and they were completely silent for a couple of rides but are starting to make some noise again.

Having the fork branded "element" brings some negative associations with me, I'm so used to seeing it on the barely functional forks slapped on sub-$125 bikes for marketing reasons. Definitely much higher quality though.
@treadmedia1777
@treadmedia1777 3 жыл бұрын
something tells me this is also barely functional, just watching how easy they are to bottom out from the video, I don't expect much. The x1's were horrible I tried to use them for a bit of light off road immediately regret it as it bottomed out and then the back was super stiff like a hard tail. First thing you need to change on most bikes is suspension, this goes for entry level local bike shop bikes also. Only difference is wal mart suspensions can get you hurt, where as local bike shops with coil suntour forks will be safe but won't perform well.
