Watching Dogma in the theater was a hoot. Some of the more obscure Catholic jokes, the Catholics in the audience would burst out laughing. Meanwhile, the non-Catholics would do headspins, looking around at the folks cracking up, trying to figure out what was so funny.

@@thecianinator Sorry, it's been too long since I've seen it to remember many specifics, but it starts with the idea that God's very existence is threatened by the logical trap contained in some Catholic dogma. God taking time off to play skeeball in a New Jersey arcade is just frosting on the cake.
@TrulyMadlyShallowly

@@jimlewis3306 The dogma itself - angels going against the word of God causing the end of Earth, because the word of God is truth - is just so. Catholic. The rules and beliefs of Catholicism can be really awkward, partly because they can be declared by leaders of the faith and are then considered Truth. The history of Limbo is a good example. Need a way out of the unfairness of unbaptized kids not going to heaven (a consequence of beliefs around baptism)? Hey pronto, invent Limbo. The dilemma that necessitated Limbo is a direct result of Catholic dogma and similar to the one presented in this film.

King Jay the Bearded try googling "ozzy osbourne joins a christian march against himself", the story is out there, but you may only find trace bits of information. Most of the videos posted seem to be dead links, but sometimes you'll find a few screen caps of the news footage. Someone has made a serious effort to have them taken all down, I don't know if it's the news outlet enforcing their own copyrights for their footage, or ozzy's PR team trying to scrub the info. Example: www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/3ecrp5/til_ozzy_osbourne_joined_a_christian_protest/ If nothing else you'll find interesting stories like the time he was fired from the band: loudwire.com/ozzy-osbourne-fired-from-black-sabbath-anniversary/ If you want more interesting ozzy stories, try his book "Ozzy knows best" which is a collection of stories from his life including the bat incident and the time he pissed on the alamo while wearing a dress, there's a partial preview here: books.google.com/books?id=BaxCg6XeyzAC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false

I was baptized protestant, raised Irish Catholic-polytheist and took theology courses on Buddhism, Islam, Judaism (which is just so fascinating and diverse. Even more so that Catholicism), Hellenism, general Abrahamic tradition etc. It can be really useful to know as mich about as many religions as possible in a lot of fields. It's a good cultural and hostorical imsight and makes for better diplomacy in government jobs too. Personally, I use all my old theology courses in my work in theatre and as a teacher. Kids love learning about other people and their traditions and art is way more interesting when you incorporate the lore of many peoples as oppossed to a slim handful.

Yeah, but nobody ever accused Catholicism or Catholics of being consistent. I mean, the same could be said for most religions, & the various other denominations of Christianity as well, but Catholicism takes inconsistency to a very strange level. Of you look into the actual Catholic dogma long enough, you realize that Dogma the movie (masterful as it is) was barely scratching the surface of how strange Catholic dogma really is(are?).

The thing is I really liked Dogma. I'm not Catholic but as a Christian I actually thought Smith captured the intent of the Bible more than if you watch TV and listen to people tell you what's in it. What makes it such a good comedy is that there's some truth in the way it mocks, but it happily mocks everyone the same. To me it's one of his best films and I still watch it whenever I come across it on TV.

SirBlot 2 angels are thrown out of heaven and go on a quest to find a loophole to get back into heaven. That loophole would have the side effect of destroying the world. Jay and Silent Bob are mostly just along for the ride, the hero of the story is a blood decedent of Jesus who has to find a way to stop them. Aside from some mild language there's nothing anti-religious about the film and it was kind of silly for any religious group to be protesting it. In the end it's fairly clear that there's actually a bit of a pro-christian, or at least pro-god vibe to the entire film that basically just says "hey there's nothing wrong with choosing god as long as you aren't using it as an excuse to hurt other people". But for some reason people took offense to the jokey nature of the presentation, I know some people were highly offended by the image of "buddy christ" which was just a friendly modern version of a Jesus statue where he's pointing at you and giving a thumbs up. Some people will take offense to anything, even if you are just implying that God has a sense of humor.

Awesome i loved dogma growing up. Some of the things people protested and raged about in the 90's was laughable. Such as pokemon being the devil

"Are you the guy?" "No, I get that all the time." I did too. Back in the 1990s a lady who checked out books from my library said I looked just like her new grandson-in-law who lived in Jersey and directed those wacky curse-word movies.

This is the best joke ever. A lot of people like truthfully comedy, you know it's truthful but it got a hint of a ridiculousness or a ridiculous prescriptive. This is 100% real and verified to be real. I guess I'm saying I liked the video it made me laugh a lot.

Lot of people are talking shit about Kevin now with the whole He man thing but he’s a great dude. Tells stories very well. There are so many great actors in Dogma. Ben and Matt, George Carlin, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Chris Rock, and Alanis Morrisette. Idk how to spell her name I guessed lol. Alan Rickman as well of course.

How often do you see an audience that engaged and glued in on the speaker? Kevin’s always had that talent, and I don’t think it’s attributed to him as much as it should be. That’s why he took to stand-up comedy pretty effortlessly: he’s already a terrific, and consummate public speaker.

Friend: WTF lol?, Hell yeah let's go!. But first we gotta make signs with glitter and stuff you know what I mean lol?. Kevin: Yeah we're definitely doing this now. 😂😂
