Watching Dogma in the theater was a hoot. Some of the more obscure Catholic jokes, the Catholics in the audience would burst out laughing. Meanwhile, the non-Catholics would do headspins, looking around at the folks cracking up, trying to figure out what was so funny.

@@thecianinator Sorry, it's been too long since I've seen it to remember many specifics, but it starts with the idea that God's very existence is threatened by the logical trap contained in some Catholic dogma. @TrulyMadlyShallowly2 жыл бұрын
@@jimlewis3306 The dogma itself - angels going against the word of God causing the end of Earth, because the word of God is truth - is just so. Catholic. The rules and beliefs of Catholicism can be really awkward, partly because they can be declared by leaders of the faith and are then considered Truth. The history of Limbo is a good example. Need a way out of the unfairness of unbaptized kids not going to heaven (a consequence of beliefs around baptism)? Hey pronto, invent Limbo. The dilemma that necessitated Limbo is a direct result of Catholic dogma and similar to the one presented in this film.

I was baptized protestant, raised Irish Catholic-polytheist and took theology courses on Buddhism, Islam, Judaism (which is just so fascinating and diverse. It's a good cultural and hostorical imsight and makes for better diplomacy in government jobs too. Personally, I use all my old theology courses in my work in theatre and as a teacher. SirBlot 2 angels are thrown out of heaven and go on a quest to find a loophole to get back into heaven. That loophole would have the side effect of destroying the world. Jay and Silent Bob are mostly just along for the ride, the hero of the story is a blood decedent of Jesus who has to find a way to stop them. Aside from some mild language there's nothing anti-religious about the film and it was kind of silly for any religious group to be protesting it. In the end it's fairly clear that there's actually a bit of a pro-christian, or at least pro-god vibe to the entire film that basically just says "hey there's nothing wrong with choosing god as long as you aren't using it as an excuse to hurt other people". But for some reason people took offense to the jokey nature of the presentation, I know some people were highly offended by the image of "buddy christ" which was just a friendly modern version of a Jesus statue where he's pointing at you and giving a thumbs up. Some people will take offense to anything, even if you are just implying that God has a sense of humor.

Baaaahahahahaha!!! I never knew this and it's absolutely hilarious! ESPECIALLY the actual broadcast at the end!! LMAO! Well done, Mr. Smith! Well done. I found Dogma to be quite entertaining myself, back in 1999.

Love how the media points out he looks and sounds exactly like the creator of the film

This is the best joke ever. A lot of people like truthfully comedy, you know it's truthful but it got a hint of a ridiculousness or a ridiculous prescriptive. This is 100% real and verified to be real. I guess I'm saying I liked the video it made me laugh a lot.

The news cast segment would have been OP if it had a label of "Possibly Kevin Smith" during his interview.

Opening credits have disclaimer - ample warning. Funny and Educational movie. I went to Catholic school and an Altar boy. I never laughed so hard as I did when I finally saw the Exorcist when I was19. Buddy Jesus save us all.!!!

I saw Dogma in the cinema it was an incredible experience. Quite unlike anything else I've seen since. A movie that emotes great reactions from the audience so was definitely worth seeing in the cinema on release. I got it on dvd sometime after that and have it to this day. It's a brilliant film and his all round best imo

A cut version of this film is KZbin. Has been for two years but not from KZbin, I'm amazed it lived without getting claimed and struck, but some stuff is cut out.
