1:56 ??? The funniest shit about straight men saying this phrase (“I’m ok with u being gay as long as u don’t like me”) is that they don’t say that shit to their non-gay friends. Ex) yes, a gay friend MAY develop feelings for u, a straight man. But so can any other female friends that u have!! Do u go around to all ur female friends (that u don’t feel attracted to) and tell them “we can be friends as long as u don’t develop feelings for me”? The chance for a gay friend to have interest in u is the same for any other female friend u have. (yes, I’m talking about the female friends u think are “ugly” or not “girlfriend-material”). And most gay people will not tell their crush that they’re gay! (Unless they are doing a love confession. But if they only cameout to u as gay and didn’t confess their romantic feelings to u, it means they’re not interested in u).

Totally agree with this. Saying that you are "accepting" of the LGBTQ "as long as it's not done to you (me)" is backhanded tolerance. I hate to point out that that very reaction is its own a form of subverted homophobia that is rather self-centered than empathetic of the (LGBTQ) person who mustered the courage to confess. The irony of allowing our LGBTQ friends "to be who they are" as long as they stay on their lane is not acceptance but sugar-coated, unverbalized apathy and repulsion against them, no matter how subtle or passive.

I think what the guy is saying to come out to a str guy like him who has been a friend is one thing, but to confess your crush or love on him is another which someone may feel weird and may change the dynamics of the friendship all together. This feeling is the same even for a long time friend of the opposite sex. No matter how much you tried to be nice about rejecting it, it may be awkward after that. That's why most long time friends, whether the person saying it is straight or otherwise, they keep it to themselves for fear of not damaging the easy and good friendship they already shared.

Honestly, straight people who say “I’m okay with gay people as long as they don’t fall for me” sound so wrong to me- reaching homophobia. If you’re okay with gays then it means you’re open minded as to let them confess and be themselves without limiting what they say or do in front of you. If the same sex person confessed to me I’d feel good and thankful since love confessions means that I’m charming to the other person. If not reciprocated then just reject them like you would for any other straight individual/friend. It’s not a difficult concept.
@AdelCh44 Жыл бұрын
I have to disagree. Regardless the gender, a friend's confession can totally change the dynamic of a friendship. Because you know this person you considered like a bro/sis is conscious because of you. And so do you, since you appreciate them but keeping wonder if whanaver action you make is sending a wrong signal to them... So basically, the idea behind this sentence doesn't shock me, maybe more the lack of tact since that's supposed to be logic even with girls as a straight guy, so no need to really emphasize this.

Tbh I myself feel, especially after hearing these stories and watching this interview, that bcz of the historical unacceptance of homosexuality in Korea many Koreans are too scared to come out even when the environment around them would otherwise be relatively safe or even supporting, resulting in less lgbt visibility (so many Koreans have said they’ve never had a gay friend) which just creates a feed back loop. That's an interesting assumption .. really?! I kind of thought the Korean society favors confucian teachings and buddhism as religion, not true? I read in the general press that quite a few christian (pseudo)religions are indeed represented in your country but it's kind of hard to imagine that any western religion, protestantism in particular as you mention on here, would have such a strong grip and what more in politics. So why would any christian religion play any role whatsoever in the Korean social makeup, I wonder ... Korea was not colonized by the West, was it.. nor has it been under American influence for that long ..
@roar5853 Жыл бұрын
@@tymeamora It's long to explain, but maybe Christianity is more political than Buddhism in Korea. When Korea was colonized by Japan, it was Christians(there were pastors, nuns, missionaries from the west who came to evangelize) who tried to tell the world the truth of Korean discrimination and massacre by avoiding Japanese surveillance. They also supported Korean independence activists. It was a time when Christians were a minority, but that's why the religion of Korean independence activists is often Christian. Think about how amazing the Bible's Exodus came to Koreans at that time. The Christian god was the god who freed the people who believed in him from slavery. And the people who actually preached the religion took care of orphans and widows, as the Bible says. During the Joseon Dynasty, Catholicism was just a Western philosophy, but Christianity was trusted as a 'just religion' throughout the colonial period. And once again in the dictatorship, Christianity supported Korea's democratic martyrs and contributed to spreading the truth of Korea under the supervision of the dictatorship. Therefore, Christianity is very political in Korea. However, Christian fundamentalism and Confucianism combined to establish a fairly conservative Christian tendency compared to Europe. Think of the very conservative Southern Bible Belt.
@tymeamora Жыл бұрын
@@roar5853 I appreciate your explanation, thanks. Japanese occupation and its aftermath did not actually occur to me, nor would I imagine that's how the western missionaries made their way into Korea (and in Japan itself Christianity doesn't seem to have much relevance, does it?). I can see they were hands on both socially and politically as you're mentioning it. So would you say the LGBT hasn't yet been socially/politically aknowledged in Korea out of religious consciousness? Did Cristian teachings get ingrained so deep in Korean awareness in such a short period of time? I mean, in Europe the initial rejection of homosexuality had been the natural reaction of 2000 years of Christian canons including its promises of eternal doom and purgatory .. Europe has not forgotten the horrors the churches brought upon their people historically in the name of Christ, so when state and church had been finally separated and most European societies became more or less secularized, LGBT has been readily aknowledged as human rights. As a western European I can tell that the vast majority of people, here and now, are really truly not interested in the others' very personal life choices (like who you choose to love, why you're not married or choose not to have children, etc). As I see it, Europeans have learned pretty quickly what's in their own best interests and social hypocrisy was deemed to be detrimental for the greater good. Your comparison about the Southern Bible Belt is rather evocative .. sort of scary nonetheless..

Thankfully, if we looks at numbers... S.Korea is actually one of, if not the fastest growing in acceptance rate within the last 20 years towards the lgbtq community ( it actually doubled and has gone to to the 40%-tile )... and this was most likely greatly increased by an entire old gen passing and a new gen becoming the adults of modern day S.korea, so believe it or not ( Just like the woman said about china) Koreans are a lot more accepting than people would think... it's simply not discussed much and is in a way taboo, or keep it quiet type of topic.... but in general a good amount of them either accepting or simply don't mind the community at all, truely the only thing holding them back from progressing much further then what they are now is the remaining older gen ( whether it be in personally family households... work-wise... politics wise )

@@rsdxxxx I wasn't referring to the act, but the fact that it simply just having the attraction itself was enough for society to view you as deviant. In other words, until recent times, the attraction toward same sex and children - without anything more - were BOTH (generally) viewed as mental perversions. There are people who have never been attracted to any person older than twelve, same as how some people who have never been attracted to someone of the opposite sex. I kid you not, there are actually people who identify as non-practising paedophiles who advocate against the stigma attached to paedophiles because though they are sexually attracted to children, they have never hurt anyone or participated in the abuse or exploitation of kids. In view of the fact that there are people who though sexually attracted to children have chosen to live a life of abstinence (just like how some who are only attracted to their sex choose a life of celibacy), my question then is what would be your basis of deeming such a person - who, through no fault of his, is only attracted to children (being born that way) - mentally perverse, when he has never acted out his/her desires and thus the issue of non-consensual sex, manipulation or harming a child never arisen? Is it because the attraction to children is unnatural or would be accepting of such a person's desires as far as he/she is not (directly or indirectly) hurting any child? if you lean towards the former, how is this different from being attracted to the same sex? The reason society now embraces homosexuality is because you can't help you who you're attracted to? How is this different from a paedophile who can't help his desires - moreso when it is not translating to the abuse of any child?

Just some days ago came the news that SK didn’t allow the pride parade on June and instead put a christian event … I’ve noticed that as a country it has discrimination not only for sexual minorities but also xenophobia towards SEA countries and black people. The problem nowadays is that so many groups are becoming increasingly more tribalistic. Echo chambers form, unwarranted self-righteousness grows, dogma becomes spewed. Before long, they get so wrapped up in their soapbox that they start complaining about feigned sleights. Too many groups these days think they own exclusivity rights over activism. Over change. These people are delusional. Being opposed to a group suffering from tribalism does not mean you are against a particular cause. They're just too wrapped up in their own narrative to realize they can no longer see the forest from the trees and are unable to separate themselves from their own biases. The kind of change they speak of will impact generations. No such change can be enacted based of the fleeting emotions of biased people. It can only come after careful and thoughtful deliberation based on facts, logic, and reason. To do otherwise would be to be socially irresponsible.

YOUR IDENTIY IS FOUND IN CHRIST. Not in your feelings. Not in your thoughts. Not in the world. Understanding that God does not make mistakes is a very serious statement that comes out of a place of LOVE. Someone telling you "how you were born was not a mistake" is someone saying that they love and accept you as who you were originally created to be. Since you are so unhappy about how you were created, a comment like this should in fact, make you feel loved. So it is completely bizarre to me how anyome could get offended if somebody compliments or speaks truth over your insecurity. Our desires for what we want are so big that we do not even see the truth in what people are speaking over you. I have endless sympathy for those struggling with identiy issues. Although being deceived by the enemy is VERY VERY hard, God says do not lean on your own understanding but instead take ALL your requests to God and HE WILL HELP YOU. You do not have to see the way, you need to have Faith that God will MAKE a way❤ It is a huge prideful situation indeed. which makes complete sense !!! Because it entirely goes against what the Bible tells us. Jesus tells us to lay down our pride! and trust our creator!! Why? because we are who God created us to be and he CAN NOT make any mistakes. No matter how much we try change ourselves on earth, God intentionally created you as male or female for a reason. The Bible also says "The world will be lovers of themselves". "They will be prideful" .And indeed this is exactly what we see happenng. I pray that people will know that The battle in your mind about your identity comes from the ENEMY. SATAN IS A LIAR. But luckily we have TRUTH to be found in the gospel of Jesus Christ!!! Please take this seriously, We should NEVER listen to our flesh. Our souls are FAR more worthy and valuable. YOUR SOUL IS FAR MORE VALUABLE. Flesh will die. But souls will never ❤ I am saying this because my heart is concerned for what is happening in the world. God is all loving and knowing. He is our healer, our beginning and end. I pray that those struggling with Identiy issues will take it to God instead of running from God. That they Will pray about it. Will seek help about it. Will not form part of movements or friend groups that encourages it. Especially going through procedures to change gender, is equivalent to self harm. Except, you are harming your soul and eternity further. Turn your life to Jesus and Let Him HELP YOU for your true IDENTIY is found in Christ. Jesus bless you !

The guy who said not to be a target makes me a little pissed. Because here in Poland 🇵🇱 I've had situation on the gay app. The Guy said to me: "I'm straight I have a Wife and Kids but I want to have sex with a Gay and I want to be your slave." And I never had a situation from me or my friends to even flirt with straight people.
