It is still amazing to me that she had to learn all the lyrics within 48 hours. She knew their previous songs but not Imaginarium. There is a documentary about them asking her and her tentative steps into the first concert. She had a very big burn out the year before she came to Nightwish and this was her first steps on stage again. But bloody hell, she made it so grand. I would love to have her as my vocal coach once.

Well, why not? They have learned over the years (apparently the acceptance of "what happens, happens, and it is all part of the live experience" came about when they nearly fell apart completely in 2012 and brought Floor in to rescue the tour) not to take themselves too seriously and that live shows are a time to have fun. Every show is essentially Nightwish having a party on stage and inviting everybody to come along! Tuomas describes this realisation in an interview, and that it has cured him of his nerves, and we all benefit because in that less stressed atmosphere, the performances are far better. While a little nervousness primes a performer to give a good show (btdt, gtts), having a sleepless night then throwing up before a show is about as poor preparation as you could have.

Yes, they just have a fun time on stage, every one of them. I agree, I also really enjoy this about their performances. It shows, that they aren't just doing it to get paid for another gig, but out of joy for what they're doing.

@@19AngelsSorrow89 My favourite part of any of the live videos from Nightwish is where, in Buenos Aires 2012, as they returned to the stage at the end of the orchestral section of Ghost Love Score (the one where they were still fine-tuning Floor's arrangement of it), Tuomas was carrying a whole pack of chilled bottled water, which he distributed to the audience himself before getting back behind his keyboards. I've never seen another band do that. They appeared to have their crew running a "bucket chain" of bottled water from backstage, too, although that is merely rare among other bands. The love goes both ways.

The most brutal windmills in the business - but could we expect anything less from the Goddess? Tuomas (the keyboard player) runs a very close second. In case nobody has mentioned it her range is about 3 1/2 octaves - approximately B2 to D6 (although we all know she can go higher or lower than that when she feels like it). She can do it all - from operatic to belting to growls and all in the same song (many examples of it here on YT). And she's the Valkyrie Goddess of metal (she is a hair over 6 feet tall, after all - 6'4" with her heels). Happy New Year to you and yours!

This particular show (of the handful we typically recommend from) is all songs written for the previous vocalists - and Floor adds to every one. She sings more than what was written, adding personal touches that we didn't even know it needed but now cannot imagine without.

Fun fact: we call it chicken skin (kippenvel) in The Netherlands as well! Anyway, thanks for doing these vids, really appreciate the insights into some of the music I love from a composers point of view. Could I recommend a view songs for perhaps future reactions? Devin Townsend: there's a bunch of amazing, truly amazing songs that guy has done over his almost three decade career, such as Kingdom (the EMGtv-version; has some of the most incredible vocals, or at least most unexpected vocals; there's another great version of the song from The Retinal Circus, with Anneke van Giersbergen (it's actually a duet of sorts)), Deadhead (at the Royal Albert Hall; such an overwhelming, epic wall of sound, with tortured lyrics presented in a vocal style that chills the brain), Higher (at Plovdiv with a complete freaking symphony orchestra and a full choir, chicken skin guaranteed), Om (again at Plovdiv, another absolute monster song). But I would make the case for Grace, from The Retinal Circus. Almost no reaction vids so far, even though I feel it might be his best work so far. There's an introduction by Steve Vai, it's another colab with Anneke van Giersbergen, a church choir is on it, and it's just 100 mile an hour of like hippy heavy metal. Super uplifting, amazing drive, just a wonderful, masterful song IMO. Speaking of Anneke, how about a reaction to Valley of the Queens, by Ayreon? Sung by Floor, Anneke, and Marcela Bovio. Acoustic guitar, several different flutes, and three of the best female singers alive on one stage. Incredible. And I want to make the case once more for The Poet and the Pendulum, by Nightwish. I really feel that's Tuomas' masterpiece, so far, and his most intimate song, and the most difficult one to perform for him, because of all the pain and misery that's in that song. Emppu and Marko actually go check on him a couple of times during the song, to give some moral support and comfort. But the song has everything, a boy soprano to start things off, a hook/ chorus, that, if you try to sing along with it, will leave you gasping for air, Floor going pretty much full soprano at several stages, an unbelievable visual show that accompanies it. It is about 20 minutes long, so I'd recommend a bigger cup of coffee for that one. ;) Happy new year, and I'm looking forward to some Tool tomorrow!

The song is said to represent a "musical suicide" and he even said in an interview once that he had two options - he would either commit suicide or write a song where he would kill himself. The song is divided into 5 sections, each containing different themes and styles: 1: White Lands of Empathica, 2: Home, 3:Pacific, 4: Dark Passion Play, and 5: Mother and Father (this last part was written by his parents). It's an extremely powerful song and piece of art, one I'm still affected by everytime I listen to it. So much depth and emotion. And please listen to it with lyrics! I can't wait to see your reaction to this performance and hear your input!!

I love "Imaginaerum", the album this song comes from. One cool thing about that album is that they had one version of this which is two CD's. The first CD is all the complete songs, and the second CD is all the same songs, but just as instrumentals. Just goes to show that the instrumentals are good enough to stand on their own, and then her vocals just make that instrumental work even better.

Fellow Hawaii resident here on the island of Maui. I've been a longtime fan of Nightwish and I just recently rediscovered the band with Floor so I've been doing the reaction rounds and came upon your channel. Mahalos for everything you're doing with the keiki and your commentary on these reactions are spot on. I am glad to know I'm not the only Nightwish fan out here in the middle of the pacific!

Yeah,.. Nightwish is pretty amazing. They bring me a journey in about every song. The composing is .. .... feels almost magical. The buildups, the drops, the heavy and sensitive parts, pauses, the playing with tension, the harmonies,.. so good! Let alone the lyrics, the very near to perfect execution and the happiness and fellowship they show on stage. Every member brings it’s own goods and they harmonize perfectly. I like almost every music genre and listen to loads of different bands, but Nightwish will probably always stay my number one. Thanks for these videos! Best wishes + greetings from the Netherlands.

To recap your journey so far :) Ghost love score - album Once, release 2004 Storytime - album Imaginaerum, release 2012 As you are decomposing (love that, lol) I would like to recommend you the song Shoemaker. Also from Nightwish, from the album Human. :II: Nature. Released 2020. Tuomas Holopainen is a surreal composer, and the joy his music has brought me over the years cannot be described in words. To have been able to listen to his evolution has been a treat.

It's taken me far too long to find this reaction channel. It's not often I find myself watching the reactor more than the video they are reacting to. Your face and the visceral emotion It is showing, is a true joy to behold. Nightwish has always evoked strong feelings in me and I have no musical training at all. To see someone with your history and training show clearly how I feel is well, wonderful. Thankyou for this, you have a new subscriber and I look forward to more of your content.

Happy new years! I hope we can make 2021 a better year. Not sure if you're still reading comments from this video, but I really wanted to reply to this specific comment you made: "I try to listen to her voice as part of the complete musical arrangement" Based on this, I really really recommend at some point you go through the latest Nightwish album Human Nature. Tuomas, the writer, has become a lot more experimental with this new album both in the instrumentation and in the vocals (I've heard the metaphor "played like strings" a few times now). It's not quite prog but they definitely broke structure more than usual. Two examples of this are Tribal and Shoemaker Not to mention, the second half of that album is almost purely orchestral! We would LOVE to see you react to that.

If you want a suggestion for a next song i would recommend `Song of myself` at wacken 2013. Its got an interesting song structure, a bit dark. Inspired by tuomas's favorite poem of Walt Whitman.

As a composer, I still think you need to watch their movie Imaginarium, by Nightwish. I believe Tuomas has mentioned that one of the primary drivers for the movie was making this song, and some the themes it shares. This song Storytime was originally on their Imaginarium Album, and was written for their then second singer Annette. The fact that Floor can sing it so well just shows her versatility. It plays in to your comment about the change of key at the end as well.

Forget the Ayreon recommendations, you've got your Nightwish work cut out for you as it is. You are by KZbin reaction standards obligated to finish the holy triumvirate of Ghost Love Score (Wacken '13), The Poet And The Pendulum (Wembley '15) and The Greatest Show On Earth (Tampere '15), in that order. That's a given, everybody knows that. xD Happy new year, dear Decomposer! You're a cool guy who needs to get subbed hard. :)

*Another good thing about being a Nightwish fan, especially if you are an original score lover/collector like me, is that their albums are released in various versions....personally I always choose the edition, in which I get the best view on the album including the "making-of"....which I will find, mostly, on 2 CD's [CD 1: Album Version, CD 2: Instrumental Version] or sometimes on 3 [CD 1, CD 2 plus CD 3 (Orchestral Version)]. Wishing you a happy New Year & stay safe. Greetings from the south of Germany.* 🎵🎹😎🎆🥁🎺🎸🎻🎹🎵

My very best wishes! Keep up the good work, you're a real breath of fresh air amongst all the 'reviewers' that have no discernible skill other than selecting tracks that attract big view numbers and are just going through the motions without contributing something new, memorable, or anything worth sitting out their clip. And also kudos for not monetising your channel. I hate people making easy money off the talent of others.

So, I've been a Nightwish fan since 2004 or so, and have gotten to experience all 3 of their vocalists, and while I love Floor (I was a fan of her work before she came to Nightwish) and I think she is the best vocalist they have had, I would really like to see you react to a few songs from the Tarja Era with Tarja on vocals (Ghost Love Score and Romanticide are both Tarja era songs, so they would be good to compare), and then a few from the Annette era (Storytime is off her second album with the band, definitely suggest Poet and the Pendulum as well), and then actually do a few songs that were written for Floor (maybe Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Shudder Before the Beautiful). The reason I say this is that each vocalist had strengths and weaknesses, and the band wrote around those, and while Floor is talented enough to do both styles, Annette really didn't do any Tarja songs (to my knowledge) because she didn't have the range. Tarja was a trained opera singer, and did not do much else, Annette was more rock oriented and didn't quite have the range, and well, Floor has both and a better delivery than either, to be honest. Anyway, love your reactions. You have quickly become a favorite reactor for me due to your grasp of the technical side of things and your more in-depth commentary.

You've gained a sub through Nightwish. Really enjoying seeing your viewpoint of being a decomposer, as Tuomas's song writing is phenomenal. If you haven't already had a minimum of 10 requests for this song, I would very highly recommend Nightwish with The Greatest Show on Earth, live @ Tampere. It's an extra long song but you will absolutely enjoy it due to your background. One cannot simply play one part of the song, as the whole thing needs to listened to from start to finish. Thanks for the great reaction!
