Rotors 👏 do 👏 not 👏 warp 👏. Talk to anyone who tracks seriously, and they will tell you a "warped" rotor is simply one with uneven pad deposits, caused by heating a crap pad until it melts, and then leaving the car stopped long enough for the pad to leave a pile of itself in one spot. Simply re-bed the brake pads and the the problem is fixed. "Warped rotors" is mechanics' favorite myth. What better way to sell someone a $25 part they don't need, take 10 minutes to swap it, and charge the owner $500+? I've pushed rotors so hard on track that they literally split down to the hub and gaped open by an inch, like a Pac Man. I have never "warped" a rotor. Kyle is right to not stop the car after coming off track, but warping is not the issue, it's just preventing rotor cracks and uneven pad deposits
@scott89193 ай бұрын
@@roadfordays BULL. This is why you don't spray water on brake rotors or immediately stop to let them cool. When different sections cool at different rates, they indeed warp.
@roadfordays3 ай бұрын
@@scott8919 I agree. Think long and hard about exactly which sections of the rotor are cooling at different rates, whether those areas are contracting harder than others, and exactly what force that would place on which point along the rotor. When things pull apart from each other, they don't bend. They crack.
@babybirdhome3 ай бұрын
If rotors didn’t warp then you would have a buildup on both sides and that’s not what you see when you machine the rotors - when on one side it’s grinding down metal to true them up again, on those same spots on the other side, you have a gap where you’re not making contact with the rotor. They do indeed warp.

What's fascinating to me is that the EV6 didn't cook its brakes and overheat the battery. Recently a Highland Model 3 performance went on the Nuremberg ring and its brakes started seriously smoking around 25% into a lap and the battery overheated around 50% into the lap. It was a complete joke! Tesla should be ashamed of themselves for releasing a performance vehicle that's a piece of junk on a track!

You are comparing a casual drive in someone else's car vs a full blown time attack tho...
@joebullwinkle50993 ай бұрын
@@PhilHarlow It was on a public track day, so exactly the same circumstances. Maybe a little harder, however only 2 up. There are also other Highland videos of track days where, it's even worse 3-4 corners the brakes are cooked and the battery shortly thereafter. My point is, it has a dedicated track mode and yet its worthless for even an amateur on a track day!
@PhilHarlow3 ай бұрын
@@joebullwinkle5099 I’m going to guess you don’t have much seat time at the track. The circumstances are that he’s on non-performance tires, in someone he doesn’t know’s car, while the passenger is visibly fearful. You’re not driving hard in that instance. Compare to a time attack in your own prepped car. Those are very different circumstances. Driving even 8/10s is an extremely different thermal load than 9/10s. There very well could be issues with the highland p, I’m just pointing out that your comparison doesn’t really make sense here

I drove a rental EV6 once, second kia I've ever driven, the first being the niro...I was really hoping the EV6 would be better...and it was because unlike the niro it had one pedal driving...but the fact that one pedal driving disables itself when you take the car out of drive so you have to turn it back on every time you get in and the paddles and...I will never buy a kia. Disaster of a car, I hated the niro and the EV6 was only marginally less terrible...oh and the fake noises, had to turn those off, absolutely terrible when companies put fake noises in their car.
@svenskenh6443 ай бұрын
So that little detail makes it a disaster of a car!?! Come on… iPedal is not the best way to drive; neither for driving economy or the uphold of the brakes (or safety for that matter). And Kia has to comply with EU regulations stating that the official numbers for the car are based on the defailt starting level.
@ibeam683 ай бұрын
What exactly is so terrible about it? I have the same exact car and I love it. Best car I've had since the 80s.

@@svenskenh644 one pedal driving isn't the most efficient on highways but it's perfectly fine around town. Also...how on earth is it bad for the brakes? Regen saves your brakes. Safety???? The brakes still exist, it's not like you're forbidden from using them? I often turn off one pedal driving on the highway in my car...but then that reminds me of the OTHER problem with EV6 one pedal...turning it off turns on creep...so now you've got your car pretending it has an automatic transmission. It does not drive like a modern EV in any way. It drives like a gas car with an electric power train and if that's how you like to drive your car that's fine...but I think having settings is good so people can choose how they want to drive the car. Additionally the whole car was annoying, this was just the big thing that annoyed me. The fake noises are annoying but can be turned off so that's just my preference but the software is a disaster as Kyle points out, the built in navigation is mediocre, the voice assistant is hilariously useless.
