I honestly had the best four months of my life abroad but that DOES NOT mean it was without struggle. I agree with Kiara that a lot of people hype it up (because it is amazing) but it’s also so difficult. Putting yourself out there in a completely different culture and having limited contact with your family and friends is HARD. My experience was also different than Kiara because I didn’t have a host Mom and I lived with 5 other girls which made adjusting sooooo much easier.

Yes we do! Hahaha
@007linkstar5 жыл бұрын
No, most people I know never have a nap during the week. Maybe it's more common in the south where there's a lot of unemployment. But it's NOT an everyday thing for most people
@007linkstar5 жыл бұрын
@UCmruhofxuKw3vwuvlhTE0Uw No, it's not stupid. You can be outside at lunchtime in Andalucia during fall, winter and spring without any problem. Yes, summers are hard, but a lot of people have AC and napping has nothing to do with the weather. If you have to work at 4, you can't nap. I said maybe in the south, where there's more unemployment. Maybe. And you can't deny the high unemployment due to how much everything depends on tourism, European subsidies and a more socialist culture. I didn't say people don't want to work and they have a nap. I just described the reality. The rest of the country works and doesn't have naps during the week. Except, of course, civil servants with a 8-3 schedule. The rest of us work at lunchtime and can't afford to sleep at lunchtime. The summer in Madrid is terrible too and people don't nap
@BechBR5 жыл бұрын
Alicia M it’s not because there’s a lot of unemployment just in the south of spain, that’s just stupid, people stay inside because of the high temperature in the middle of the day, specially during summer.

I really understand where you are coming from and what you are talking about. I myself went to Spain for a full year (I'm from Norway so not as far away as traveling from the US but still) and I can honestly say that it took me about six months to actually get to a point where I preferred Spain over home. I was fortunate enough to find a group of friends who were all from England and who ended up being my family while I was there. Having them really made a difference in my stay and I'm almost positive I wouldn't have lasted a full year if I hadn't met them.

Sometimes traveling can be kind of lonely. I remember when I traveled to Romania for three weeks. I loved it but on the other hand I was homesick and I literally kissed America (The ground) when I returned home.
@thismarissat5 жыл бұрын
Hey girl! I studied abroad in France this summer for 2 months and had a very similar experience in terms of having a difficult time adjusting. At week 5, I became super homesick and wanted to leave but I learned so much about myself in the process and honestly transformed as a human being because of the opportunities I was given. There is a lot of romanticism about studying abroad and not many realize how difficult it can be emotionally, but it’s so worth it because you’re growing and becoming a more independent person! Cheers to our personal experiences and discovering new cultures while making the coolest friends!

I feel you on this 100%! I studied abroad the entire spring semester, and everyone told me the same things about how amazing the experience is but my experience was far from perfect, and one of the most difficult times for myself personally. Still don't regret it at all and it changed my life in a way I didn't expect!

I truly respect the realness of this comment. This is something that I see from kids I work with, which is one of the reasons I try to keep expectations positive but realistic for them. One of the things they are often not prepared for is the emotional aspect of SA, among other things. Glad you don't regret it, but also nice to see you have objective outtakes on your semester away. Be well - K.

Right now I'm in Finland for a study abroad semester :) For me, this is also the biggest step out of my comfort-zone ever, but I truly believe that this will change me and make me more confident in everything I do, and I really hope you felt this way too after your study abroad! When I travelled abroad to study english the firsts days were really rough. My mental health was not great, but I started to get into the routine and it became better. At the end I didn't want to go back and would totally recommend it. Every student has to decide if they think travelling abroad is something for them and if you do, embrace your experience even if you didn't like it, you'll come back knowing more about yourself and knowing is not for you.

I studied abroad in the Baltic’s (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) in the beginning of July for two weeks. The thing for me is that I am an online student at Arizona State University, so studying abroad was great because I could meet some of my classmates. Although I had to write a 20 page essay when I got home, but I loved every second of it. I would recommend doing it through the school because you are there with students from your school and there are faculty members on your trip (that you can use for recommendation if you need them for grad school). Ps the farthest place I’ve been is Estonia. I live in California, so it was a 10 hour difference with a 3 leg flight, and an 11 hour flight from London to LA.

Study abroad can be hyped but everyone has a different experience. For me, it was 100% the most amazing time in my life and it was life-changing. Being with a host family isn’t quite as fun I think as being in a university environment. I went to the University of Exeter in England for the summer and while I got to take classes, I got to explore and met people that I’ll talk to forever. After coming back, I wanted nothing more than to go back. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t all that you expected it to be though.

I guess it really depends on a lot of different factors what your experience is like. I went to seville for a month last year. In the beginning it was quite hard, but i stayed in residence and after 2 weeks i got this amazing roommate who is now still one of my best Friends and met a cool group of people who we hung out with almost every night and we all went sightseeing together and there were weekendtrips organized by the school and all that. I guess its easier to become close with people in a residence building as well. (CLIC international house Sevilla)

@monicawittrock41475 жыл бұрын
@@KiaraMadisen Yes, my family loves traveling! No I didn't go to Disney World but I would love to go one day! I have been to Disney Land Paris though :) But we did go to Universal Studios in Florida and I loved it! We rented a car and drowe around to different locations for around 2,5 weeks and it was so much fun and very different to our holidays in Europe.
