There's really three recipes for the price of one here. First, I'm gonna show you how to make refried beans taste delicious (hint: lots of pork fat). Second, in order to get that pork fat, I'll show you the simplest path to carnitas. And finally, we're gonna make a Tex-Mex-style beef filling for burritos using leftover tomato sauce from our Sunday Gravy (watch that one here: ).
Sounds like a lot of work for beefy bean and cheese burritos, but the reality is that you can make these recipes as the feature of two or three different dinners, then repurpose the leftovers for a bonus lunch that packs up nicely for kids (or parents!). Because you know what's roughly the same shape as a foil-wrapped burrito? A Thermos. Load that warm burrito into a Thermos like a torpedo into the tube and your kid gets a perfectly cheesy, not-destroyed lunch.

Winning Mealtime is about helping you put delicious, actually achievable meals on the table. If you're a parent, that means defeating your children in the unending battle known as Getting Your Children to Eat Something Substantive. As all parents know, there are no universal solutions. These are the recipes that work for us...most of the time. Every kid is different, but we're legally required to feed them, even when they're being monsters 👹.
