I’m an Uber driver in Coachella Valley. I drive all those people to the festival. OMG. You get an interesting insight to their lives because most of them see the Uber driver as a robot that drives a car. So you hear all their drama! It’s fascinating. As a raver, there is a clear issue with Coachella drawing a market of first-time festival-goers. It should be more clear how festivals work or attendees should do research into how to do a festival and not just research their outfits (which is an important part). PortaPottys, communal showers, long lines, phone thiefs, etc are ALL PART OF FESTIVALS. You work around it or deal with it. I bring a bikini and use gallon water jugs and soap to shower. I plan extensively to have protective bags for my phone that go around my waist. It's a music festival not a luxury resort. Personally, i would never attend Coachella as it is far too big and busy for my taste, but its sad to see people so surprised when these are simply a part of the festival experience. This is all made worse by snotty influencers. In my experience, most of the people i meet at festivals are interesting and down to earth people from a wide variety of economic classes and backgrounds. But these people? are not it. I love the fashionaspect of festivals and have met lots of cool folks who go all out on their outfits, but they dont act like this (well most of them dont lol).

Take water bottles, sun screen, sun glasses or a cap, wear comfy clothes and be sure you're gonna be dirty at the end of it. AND ENJOY THE MOMENT AND THE MUSIC ! It’s beyond stupid it’s laughable to me.. lol idk I’m from suburban Kansas where not many kids even get a chance at all to go to one of these big things..lol we always wish and those who are more successful job wise I guess and the ones in my high school who just had that popularity vibe all around them would maybe sometimes end up going..I’ve always wanted to go to lollapalooza.. it’s also bothers me though cause it’s gotten more expensive and has been getting that everyone knows about that festival kinda dealio.. but the more I see the ridiculous social media culture wrapped right around these festivals fingers, makes me kinda re think going to some as a young 21 year old who is young enough to remember simple technology before social media kjnda just ruined everything..lol, on the other hand I still have interest in going to Bonnaro, which to me has always had more of a music/hippie vibe and not much of a social media guru fest..lol, it’s just all about finding the ones that haven’t been completely infiltrated by social media now I guess..lol

Not that I have much sympathy for rich influencers but imo it's definitely ok to complain about not getting into the festival if you bought a ticket. If it's genuinely the organizers of Coachella selling more tickets than they have capacity for at the festival that's absolutely not acceptable.

I think you're mostly right. Personally, I think a lot of them might have even had some help from stylists back when despite what they claim, but now the standards and expectations are different. I absolutely hate the term "influencer". These people are in sales... that is it! They promote products that they dont even use, usually to younger people that cant afford it! I cant, I just seriously cant! There are so many channels I follow that I am no longer following because I am sick of the bullshit these people spew to everyone. Plus if I hear the word Coachella again I am going to lose my mind! Same here. The beauty community is DOA because of affiliate marketing. It's not the only reason of course but I believe it has a lot to do with it. Before youtubers had to legally declare their ads, the community was thriving. Influencers, tiktok and rampant liberalism destroyed it.

You didn't know if it was a good shot until you got your photos back so you snapped a couple & didn't waste time trying to get the perfect pic, so you could enjoy yourself. Put the phone down, quit trying to be the next big thing, and live life. This influencer culture disgusts me. I like this chick, I'm subscribing. Way to be down to earth, girl! Unfortunately these festivals have turned into pretentious popularity shit shows. What happened to going for the music, meeting random people and hanging out, the wafting of green in the air and people just rocking out and having a good time? There's a crusty old lady that lives inside you, and I mean that in the kindest and most loving way! I am probably your mom's age and it's nice to see that not all of our next generation is self-absorbed and consumed with the cash grab, that there are some, like yourself, who actually have values and substance to your character. You're a good girl Kylie, and I'm certain your parents couldn't be more proud of the wonderful young woman you've become. Love you bunches!

@NPC 1337 I do know the origins and will now enlighten you about the facts..When Coachella started in 1999, "grunge was at the end of it's peak popularity and starting it's decline. And by 2009 when I went to Coachella you didnt even need to buy a ticket early (no wristbands back then) They never sold out and in 2009 I could show up the first day and just walk up to the ticket booth or buy a ticket from a street scalper for only $30!!! And the way it was going Coachella would most likely be nearing bankruptcy today and shut down forever just like similar (against popular music) festivals like Warped for example. So in 2010 when Coachella decided to go mainstream and add acts like Jay-z as headliner and putting the cutting edge EDM acts front and center they sold out all weekend in a blink of an eye and simultaneously saved Coachella from shutting down. No offense but if your still going to grunge alt music fests in 2022 "because your a real music enthusiast yea!" then you are completely out of touch with American culture. And yes I am well aware of the rich history of Coachella being created by Eddie Vedder and all of that, but it still doesnt change anything. So yes, there is tons of vapid airheads at Coachella these days, but there are also thousnds of real music lover who are there to appreciate the art and make deep connections with other fans they encounter there. I mean anyone who actually attends Coachella can easily attest to that. What you are doing is that cliche thing and saying that "Coachella has become nothing but a selfie fashion contest and there are no real music lovers left there anymore" And that is something that is usually said by people who dont actually go to Coachella.

i go to coachella every year and i love it. Usually go with about 10 or so friends - we do tent camping, hang out together and eat breakfast/drink by the tents in the mornings.. we compare line ups of who we want to see, and usually end up splitting up into different groups and meeting back up multiple times a day. We bring in water bottles and some snacks. party our heartys out and then do it again the next day. No lines, no waiting, no hassel. I was even able to get free merch by collecting water bottles and recycling! It was a cool thing to do because people just leave trash everywhere (sad) but it look me less than an hour to collect 400 empty bottles from the tent camping area. I traded it in for two hats and two tshirts for me and my roommate. There is also a secret cantina inside the festival that has nice loungers, great drinks, and isn't busy because you need a password to get in, but it's fairly easy to find if you know what you're looking for. I live in LA, we drove up - i spent $150 on my ticket on resale, less than $100 for the tent camping for the whole weekend, and probably about another $100 on drinks/food/games inside the festival. I spent less than $500 on the whole experience, and had a blast - met lots of cool normal people in tent camping that were also there to see their favorite artists (lots of foreigners too!). We are not influencers, we just love the music. It's easy to do Coachella and have a great time - it will be a nightmare if you are a clout chaser, and are going for the wrong reasons.
