Fucking YES. I love it when KZbinrs actually talk about real skin care and not that "trendy" skin care. Lemons and baking soda does not belong on your skin.

I love that you mentioned switching the perspective on skin care. I was watching a video yesterday saying not to use apple cider vinegar on the skin because it's irritating, etc and I just felt stressed. I had been using it and was like omg, did I damage my skin? I don't want to age, blah blah and it's like stop. It's okay. It's okay to not be perfect and it's natural to age. Skin care should be relaxing and an extra thing we can do for self care - not an obligation to society to be pretty and youthful looking. Anyway, great message! Also, I've been using the kiss my face and it's perfect! Even for my oily skin, acne prone :)

If your skin is oily, I recommend toning with alcohol-free witch hazel. You can add a small bit of ACV to it, but I don't think it's really necessary. Straight ACV is WAY too acidic and stripping.

For reference, I have dry, sensitive skin and papulopustular rosacea (google image search for an idea of what my flare-ups look like). During flare-ups I have fairly severe acne on my cheeks, BUT I haven't had a flare-up in 5 months thanks to my dermatologist and my skincare routine. These are my favorite/current products: Cleansers: I use the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, which is very similar to the Cetaphil cleanser. To take off makeup I like the Clinique Take the Day Off balm and the Banila Clean It Zero Purity balm. These are all very gentle and non-irritating on my skin. Exfoliants: I use the Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid, and I love it dearly. I use it every night and will never stop. I apply it with clean hands when my face is dry after cleansing. My skin has trouble with some AHAs, but I've just started testing the Paula's Choice Weekly AHA treatment as a way to fade the hyperpigmentation from my last flare-up. Treatment: I am fortunate enough to be able to see a dermatologist thanks to health insurance through my job. If you are having trouble with your skin and have the ability to see a dermatologist, please do. I use Aczone (7% dapsone gel) to treat my rosacea. It has helped me immensely, and I have no active acne/severe rosacea symptoms thanks to this product. It did take some experimenting to find the right prescription. Moisturizer: I currently use the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion and pure jojoba oil. I have quite dry skin, and honestly these aren't quite hydrating enough. I'm on the lookout for something more moisturizing. I like the Paula's Choice Moisture Boost Hydrating Treatment Cream, but UGH I'd like to find something more affordable. Sunscreen: I have tons of problems with sunscreen, but I love the Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion. It's thin, moisturing, and non-greasy. Once again SO EXPENSIVE UGH. I'm going to try the Kiss My Face Face Factor 30 next, since it sounds similar! I hope it is please god Paula Begoun can't have my entire paycheck. That's about it! I'm interested to see/read other recommendations! Please ask me any questions about my routine/skin!! Especially if you're struggling with some of the same issues I have!

Elise Harris hey there! I don't have rosacea, but I do have ridiculously dry skin. Dry enough in the winter that I get eczema patches on my face if I don't use the heaviest of moisturizers. I'm currently experimenting with a less emollient one because of preventative aging benefits cause I can get away with it in the humid summer. But a moisturizer that has been my absolute holy grail for 6 years has been Celestial by Lush. I definitely don't believe in the company's entire skincare line (they preach all natural, good ingredients, kind of a hippy brand etc). But my skin just LOVES the moisture. A few of the top ingredients are vanilla water, almond oil, almond milk, and cocoa butter. It doesn't bother my crazy sensitive skin, a tiny bit goes a long way. Many online reviews will say that it's too heavy, too emollient, or greasy but my skin drinks it in like a dream, and my makeup applies great over it. Downside is, no SPF, no extra ingredients for anti aging etc. If it weren't for that, I'd be using it forever! I'll probably still end up buying it in the winter as my day cream (and use SPF over it)

flab2fitange thanks for the rec!! I've been wary of Lush for exactly what you said about them, but I'll look into Celestial! I don't mind my moisturizer and SPF being different products, so that's not a concern. "Too greasy" and "too emollient" sound right up my alley.

Elise Harris the great thing about lush though is if you have a store close enough, they'll give you a sample to try before you buy. If I remember, I think mine lasted 1-2 weeks. :)

I really loved that you talked about chemical exfoliants! Just wanted put out there that if AHAs are too harsh on your skin, that one could use chemical exfoliants that use certain fruit enzymes such as pumpkin and papaya that are keralytic in the same way acids like glycolic acid are, but they're much gentler!

+Lara Tiara That's about the snarkiest comment I've ever read on an adult focused audience KZbin Channel! Did you miss her video where she apologized for being away for so long because she'd gone through a divorce, had a baby (was writing a book, although she didn't say anything about that on that particular video) & she's a working makeup artist, sometimes on set or site in another state! I haven't known a KZbinr yet that hasn't had to take time from uploading videos due to some or many personal reasons. That's called LIFE! I went through a rough divorce & fortunately didn't have young children involved while my father was downgraded from 3rd to 4th stage cancer & between that buying a home & remodeling it my father was put on Hospice. Do you think that if I wanted to do something & said I would plan on doing it that I'd be able to follow through with my sanity intact? Well you may have maids & cooks & a charmed or perhaps no life at all, but that comment was what I call a Troll Comment & in my opinion you owe Kiki an apology. I was raised with manners, compassion, empathy & if I chose to be snarky I'd have the guts to do it to that person's face, but since you obviously can't instead of saying that you hope her life stays calm enough that you can enjoy the information that you get for FREE from her & wish her the best of luck! Love you!

Thank you so much for starting this series Kiki! It really kind of feels like we all get some lessons in beauty school. I love it!!! Last week I re-watched your Acne Video and took notes. I've just started my new skincare routine based on your video and added Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid. I have super sensitive combination skin and I was pleased to notice that the chemical exfoliator doesn't irritate my skin AT ALL! My face doesn't even feel dry or tense after using it. And my skin feels super even and soft the next morning. I'm so so happy with this product so far! I've also been slathering probiotic yogurt on my face, which is weird. But hopefully we can see improvement in my skin within the next few weeks. You really seem to know your stuff and do your research. I really appreciate that. There are so many videos on skincare and confusing information out there and a lot of the time people's home remedies seem really aggressive and bad for the skin long term. You really set a stark contrast to those rubbish videos.

my whole world/face was changed when i discovered some amazing, super simple soaps on Etsy. my all time favorites, after trying a few, are from a shop called Happy Monkey Soaps (the owner is very anti palm oil). in particular, the Honeybee soap that's made from just a few oils and honey is freaking perfect. it cleans gently, removes makeup residue, and leaves skin super soft and balanced.

Excited to see your furniture face more often! And excited for this series. A few months ago it hit me that I was turning 30 and I didn't have ANY preventative aging steps in my skincare (nor did I use SPF daily). Pretty much the only thing I was doing right was moisturizing my face. I upped my game 2 months ago and bought new moisturizer (with hyaluronic acid) from Derma E brand, it's drugstore, natural line, and vegan for those who want to know. I also bought their vitamin c serum, which I LOVE. The other step I added was First Aid Beauty facial radiance pads (not sure if they're actually a chemical exfoliant, but package says good for sensitive skin which I have hardcore, and says it tones, brightens, and exfoliates). Initially I thought the FAB pads were overrated, but about a month in to the new routine I looked in the mirror after a brutal workout (which usually leaves my naturally red uneven face, even more noticeably red) and I realized my skin tone has evened out quite a bit. Enough so that I don't mind going mascara only some days. I'd like to give all the credit to the serum, but I'm sure the FAB pads are part of it too. For reference, I am a super pale, lobster face, that has skin that is so sensitive most sunscreens burn my face, but hopefully face factor won't, it's coming from amazon Saturday. In the summer I'm more normal skin type, but I get super dry in winter, and get eczema patches on my face easily if I don't use crazy rich moisturizer. 💕

I know a lot of people use high end cleansers and moisturizers pretty exclusively. My "go-to" has always been Oil of Olay. When I am wearing makeup during the day, my first step is to apply Clean it Zero all over my face, then follow with an Olay Cleansing cloth (disposable). Then I follow with Olay Regenerist or the Olay formula with Retinol. In the morning, I use Olay Total Effects to moisturize. I found a CC Cream with 43 SPF that I use next. I've tried other moisturizers, but none of them make my skin feel as soft and hydrated as Oil of Olay. I keep going back to it.

Great video! I love how you're talking about chemical exfoliants because that's how I tend to talk about them as well... "and then I pour CHEMICALS on my face so they will BURN MY SKIN OFF". On a more serious note, as a person with oily, acne-prone, sensitive skin (yay) I use: - cleanser: Balea Cleansing Oil - toner: Balea Gentle Facial Skin-Toner for Dry and Sensitive Skin - in the morning: Bioderma Hydrabio Sérum followed by LaRoche Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ Dry-Touch Gel-Cream - in the evening: the Paula's Choice 2% BHA Lotion (

You are one of the few people out there that actually knows what they are talking about re: skincare. I have normal skin and rosacea and acne isn't normally my problem. Just FYI, all of the cleansers you mention would give me acne if used on the daily (I tried CeraVe Hydrating and in 3 weeks I had the worst breakout). I guess everyone is different because you don't seem to have the same issue. But I LOVE the CeraVe SA cleanser, it's the only thing that's ever helped my rosacea, and I've used the original Lotion on my face since the product was introduced.

I've haven't found any chemical exfoliants in Perú that I can use without feeling my skin burn. For doble cleansing I use micellar water, neutrogena oil free makeup remover (for waterproof makeup), and La Roche Posay Syndet with a Foreo Luna Go tool for sensitive skin. As for moisturizers I tend to use pharmacy's brands like Avene, La Roche Posay, Bioderma or Eucerin, they are very good for sensitive skin. The sunscreens I use are Bioderma Photoderm Aquafluid Max or Isdin fushion water, I like that they don't feel on the skin at all. Love the new video schedules, keep them coming!

I have oily skin and I definitely on team cleansing balm and cream cleanser. I like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, Andalou Naturals Apricot Probiotic Cleansing Milk, the Pixi Beauty + Caroline Hirons Double cleanse, and the Etude House Oremong One Shot Sherbet Cleanser. For acids, I use the Ordinary; mainly their BHA, toner, and sometimes the 30% mask (if I remember). For a moisturizer, I generally use the CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. I don't find it to be overly thick, occlusive, or moisturizing, especially on my dry hands and body, so it works on my face. The ph of everything is good. So glad you will have regular uploads. I switch things up pretty frequently but 3 things I always use are: 1. 100% Pure Coffee Bean eye cream in the morning 2. BioDerma Micellar Water to remove makeup at night and 3. BioElements Really Rich Moisture. I am 52 years old, have dry/dehydrated skin (trying to get better on that dehydrated part) and I'm an esthetician. I really like a lot of the Image line particularly the "Ageless" products. I also use a 20% Glycolic Acid by Clinical Care....which is a very strong acid and not available in the U.S. to the general public...but if you happen to know an esthetician he or she can hook ya up. I get mine at Salon Centric in California. GREAT VIDEO!!!! It's funny I feel like I was more knowledgeable and more "into" skin care before I went to school...stupid beauty school!!!

Alexandra W Well I like that it's an emollient formula that is thin because they're hard to find. I don't have any problems with it not penetrating, but I always exfoliate before using any lip balm or mask. I don't use it overnight because it isn't marketed as a mask, I use the Bite Agave one for overnight. I like the DE one to use during the day and even under a liquid lipstick, and because it's so thin it makes the lipstick more comfortable to wear. But just like skincare what works for me may not work for someone else.

It has charcoal in it which is even better. I was genetically blessed with huge pores and acne so I get blackheads easily and I've found that the scrub helps all around. My skin type: Normal to dry, a little sensitive. My two favorite skincare products are 1) Cetaphil Cleanser as recommended in the video. It is life. and 2) The Oil of Olay 'Complete All Day UV Moisturizer SPF 15 Sensitive Skin'. Very nicely hydrating, doesn't irritate my skin and has the SPF in there. TBH one of the biggest skincare tips I can add to this video is wear a hat or bring an umbrella if you are going to be in the sun for really any length of time. Great video Kiki! My favourite gentle cleansing duo - the Muji Oil Cleansing (for makeup removal) and the Muji Cream Cleansing (balm texture for actual cleansing). These both come in big bottles and are really affordable. The oil cleanser even removes eye makeup effectively aka no mascara residue! I never feel stripped or dry using these and they're so cheap i can use them liberally without feeling bad

Products I absolutely love and have been using for AT LEAST a year (I have normal to dry skin): Fresh Cleanser Fresh Soy cleanser= so gentle & effective gel for removing everything without stripping my skin. Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic toner= great chemical exfoliant that I use daily to remove dead skin. I put some on a cotton pad Kate Sommervile Exfolikate treatment= once a week exfoliation that is both a chemical and physical exfoliater (even though I use the PTR daily, once a week this is a deep exfoliater that makes the skin feel incredible. It does have some beads in it, but I put it on, gently massage in circular motions, then leave on for about 5-10 minutes. It starts to tingle and is REALLY effective at removing dead skin and will brighten skin. Also, it is expensive, but you need so little that it lasts a long time and is worth it at $24 for 0.5oz. Caudalie Vinexpert Eye & Lip Serum= I use this as a "base" for my eye cream at night and together they are a dream team duo, seriously. Shiseido Benefiance Eye Cream= hydrating eye cream that I use morning and night. It is thick and hydrating and has been effective in keeping fine lines away. I am on the hunt for a daily very hydrating moisturizer with SPF (hydrating, lol!) eye cream that works well under makeup, have also heard good things about the Kiehl's avocado eye cream & their midnight recovery line. Let me know if you recommend anything as well; I am new thanks to reddit and love your energy & humor! 😘

Some of my favorite skin care products are witch hazel (as a morning toner), Aveno Smart Essentials Daily Nourishing Moisturizer (has spf 30 and is so light on the skin), and Neutrogena Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Spot Gel (this stuff gets rid of new pimples in just a few hours - it's the best). I also use the 3 step Proactive system at night and that has REALLY helped to keep my skin clear. Next time I go to Target I'm going to look for that Pixi product! I'm really excited to try something like that out! 😊

My new bomb ass skincare product is the belif Hungarian Water Essence. I thought this was some total snake-oil bullshit, but I got it as a sample and used it for shits and giggles, and it's kind of changed my life. My skin is naturally oily/acne prone, and while I came around to actually using moisturizer in college, doubling up on the moisture by adding this water essence has gloriously *removed my acne.* Not entirely, I still get a little hormonal acne, but I feel comfortable in minimal coverage makeup for the first time in 3 years. I hate myself for paying so much for it, and for the fact that it basically just looks like fancy water, but it super works for me. Thanks for making such awesome and informative videos!!

I have dry normal acne prone skin. I use the CeraVe cleanser and their moisturizer with my spf in the a.m.. Oil cleanse or use micellar at night with the CeraVe cleanser, throw on a thicker vitamin C moisturizer followed by rosehip oil in dry areas and around the eyes. Every 2 days I bust out my multi acid peel pads. And when I wash my hair (every 3 or 4 days cough cough) I go in with a physical exfoliator from a cute little boutique in my town, use their masks too. I wanna eat my face they smell so good. I'm writing all of this to say, I took away something from previous vids and it has immensely decreased my acne and texture. listen to her, she knows more than anyone I watch on YT! thank you for sharing your knowledge!!

I use 3 serums and 3 different moisturizers for my aging combo skin. I apply a chemical exfoliant (Paula's Choice 2% BHA), then 2 Diciem serums--The Ordinary Niacinamide and Hylamide subq anti-age. Then I apply daytime moisturizers: an emollient eye cream, Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer for oily T zone, and CereVe Am on the rest of my face, neck, and exposed chest area (these both have SPF 30 which I wear every day even though I tan well and never burn, it's basic anti-aging!). Wait 1-2 minutes between products (doing other things like brush teeth, floss, gargle, use toilet, wash hands, style hair, apply body products, get dressed, cuddle pet, tidy bathroom/bedroom...). At night I use an AHA liquid, a retinol serum and slightly richer moisturizer (not too heavy).

I hate to say it because of price but I sincerely really love Dermalogica. I tried a couple travel size products because of regular size price. (I have combo/oily skin) Pre-cleanse, Special Cleansing Gel, Daily Microfoliant, Active moist moisturizer are all amazing products! I also do really enjoy the Nip + Fab Glycolic exfoliating pads (AHA). First Aid Beauty products are also amazing but pricey, specifically their Facial Radiance Pads.

Liquid Gold, the balancing and pore refining mask and the triple action cleanser are my favourite products. I also love that they are an Australian and cruelty free brand... however the products are expensive, especially for people not in Australia I'd say... but I totally recommend. P.S. thanks for being such a good influence.

This video came just in time! I'm trying to fix some skin issues (and generally take better care of myself), so this series is much needed. Question: can you make a video in this series that talks about how to balance out skin dehydration specifically? I find that my skin is not as oily as it used to be, but it still has some oil, and gets very tight and dry easily.

I had horrible acne for years, and wish I had seen this as a teenager. Like many i thought oil caused the acne and would strip my skin so bad, using alcohol as a toner then no moisturizer omg!!! exfoliating, excersize, and using a moisturizer is what got my skin under control. I LOVE the cetaphil cleanser for morning and loreal has a glycolic cleanser that I like. my fave moisturizer is the okay regenerist night mask (it's on the blue container and is a gel like consistency) now I only get that time of month breakouts I spot treat with tea tree oil

Your videos are awesome! You have a magical blend of smarts, talent, refreshing humor, candidness, credibility and expertise. I already use many of your favorites....have been on the Cetaphil train since the 90s! And the CereVe pm moisturizer is my summertime go-to. I can't say enough good things about Clinique City Block SPF 25...full-spectrum physical sunscreen with a slight tint, antioxidants, and reasonably hydrating, feels light on the skin, no scent. (They also have an SPF 40, but I don't use that anymore because I have developed a sensitivity to chemical sunscreens.) At about $23 bucks per tube, it's cheaper than a lot of high-end brands, and actually not that much more than some drugstore lines. I have literally used it for decades. I will be seriously lost if they ever discontinue it.... For exfoliating, I alternate between the Nip + Fab regular Glycolic Fix pads (just AHA) and the "Extreme" ones (for AHA and BHA). Sometimes I decide to use a granular scrub instead simply because it feels good. Looking forward to more of this series!

I have been using the Kiss My Face SPF moisturizer ever since you first mentioned it. Thank you! Plus, I'm using The Ordinary's AHA/BHA Peeling Solution as an exfoliant. I highly endorse the attitude shift --which I have done. I think of it as a self care, spa-like indulgence to "treat" myself (double entendre). In that regard, I have bought some K-Beauty double cleaners that are affordable, and switch among them when I double cleanse. Thank you, Kiki. You rock.

my fave moisturizer/spf combo is the Garnier SkinActive Clearly Brighter sunscreen. it's broad spectrum spf15, which isn't a lot but if you apply once in the am, once at lunch, and another later during the day (if you're hanging outside) it's wonderful. I love putting it over a face oil in the morning since it smells great and really helps lock in moisture. my other fave moisturizer is the elf illuminating eye cream. and since it is formulated for the sensitive skin under my eyes, I also use it for my lips (which is probably the thinnest skin on your body) and for extra hydration on my acne at night. and my fave cleanser is the CeraVe hydrating cleanser for normal to dry skin. I use it both morning and night, where at night I use either Ponds cold cream or simple micellar water to remove makeup, St.Ives apricot scrub to exfoliate, and follow that with the CeraVe cleanser. I know I'm not going to completely get rid of acne for good (since a lot of mine is hormone driven) but this systems keeps things in check and my skin soft and hydrated

I'm really pleased to see a video covering a basic skincare routine. It can get really overwhelming diving into what I call the "skincare rabbithole." There is a lot of information, but some of it is super advanced and it is really intimidating. I recently delved into a research frenzy to find the best skincare routines for myself and my boyfriend. He and I have very different issues. He has moderate to severe acne and very oily skin. I have very dry sensitive skin with hormonal breakouts. We both have found products in the Murad Acne line and Sunday Riley's skincare line that work wonderfully for us. We share the Murad Clarifying cleanser and toner as well as Sunday Riley's Good Genes Lactic Acid treatment. He gets good results with the Murad mattifying moisturizer during the day. I'm still looking for a day moisturizer I like. We use different night moisturizers from the Sunday Riley line (I use CEO antioxidant cream and he uses Tidal Enzyme water cream) and retinol products (he uses a prescription and I use a ROC product). I also use Kiehl's Midnight Recovery oil and Erno Laszlo's memory sleep mask to really lock in extra moisture. So far, both of us have seen great improvements in our skin over the last couple of months. I don't have flaky dry patches anymore, and his skin is slowly becoming clearer than it's been in years. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos in this series. =)

I don't know why I didn't think to give you feedback other than a thumbs up, but your acne video saaaaved me this year. I was in three weddings (one of them was mine) this spring and all the forced-fun-activities and planning was making me lose sleep and causing my face to erupt. I started using Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid, Cerave night cream, and Kiss My Face spf all because of your recommendation. I made it my self care time before bed and not only did it help me calm down, my skin is now the best it's been since like high school (I was a late bloomer...the zits came in college). Thank you, thank you, thank you. And if by chance you see this video, I'd love to see a tutorial for redheads! I feel like there are so many colors I'm not supposed to use but don't know why or how to pick them. (This next part is awkward but I'm going to write it anyway) I live in Austin and would happily be your guinea pig :)

I have combination dry skin and I am in love with the First Aid Beauty Intense Hydration moisturizer. I've been using it since the beginning of this year and it's honestly the best thing I've put on my face. I had a really bad eczema breakout after over exfoliating with one of those facial brushes during Christmas and invested in so many balms and moisturizers, and that one was definitely heaven sent with another high intensity bees wax balm I was applying at night. I also like the mario badescu aloe toner since it's super gentle, and I the acure sensitive skin face cleanser :) These are all good cruelty free options too -thumbs up-

The Ordinary is always recommended under skincare videos lol, but FOR REAL their Glycolic Acid 7% solution has given me a new face. My texture, the little whiteheads? Gone. And on a college girl budget, it's a godsend. It feels like a lot of skincare is either exorbitantly priced (can you say $100 for an ounce of oil?) or completely ineffective. My face is smooth like a baby's butt because of The Ordinary and I still have money to buy Postmates once in a while.

I really love your videos like this, I find them really helpful when I want to try new things. I suffer from acne like EVERY WHERE, and I finally got my face to chill out. I use the Live Clean Orchid Face Set, I actually bought the trial set to see how my skin would react, because I have sensitive oily acne prone skin, and mild rosacea, so I gotta be a little careful. So far it's been great, it came with a cleanser, an exfoliator, and a day and night cream. The cleanser is a foam cleanser, but it doesn't strip my face and still makes my skin feel clean. The scrub is your basic scrub. The day cream is my favourite though, it almost has a tightening feeling, my skin feels moisturized, but not oily, and it feels like all that moisture is locked in, and I don't get super oily throughout the day. However I need to start adding Sunscreen into my routine.
