Project CLS63 AMG Bi Turbo Exhaust Mod Resonator Delete

My 2014 CLS63 S AMG has the resonator removed and an X pipe welded in place of it. The thing is, the car is so insulated I can't enjoy the sound. Those behind me can hear it just fine, but again, the car is so insulated and quiet inside I kind of wish it was even louder so I can hear it. Anyway, lots of fun regardless. Nice videos.

Hi, I got a cls63 2014 which has a stock exhaust. Is yours the same? It sounds lovely. I was just curious, how could i ask from the shop to do the exact same job to make mine sound like yours? Sorry if my question sounds silly, i am not english and some terms i am not familiar with, about the exhaust. So i want to make sure i ask it correctly. Have you just removed the middle resonators and replaced it with X pipes? Did i understand correct? Thank you very much

Hi, yes thats exactly it. removed the centre resonator and replaced it with an X-Pipe. You can do it with 2x straightpipes also as there is a small pipe connecting them both further along.

I’ve heard people tell me taking the center resonator off takes the original sound of the car away, I have a cls 63 Amg S have you noticed that?

@6m00s roughly: The stock box appears to have a cross-over pipe built-in (?). So you've perhaps deleted the cross-over.

Yep it does, as per the video after speaking to multiple (3) exhuast specialists there is no need for it. Its just Mercedes covering their backs encase of issues at anytime between the 2 banks of the V8.

Im wondering. My 63 S sounds like that. Aggressive barks on upshifts and ridiculous backfires/pops on downshifts (almost like a shot gun shot lol). Do you know if the S was fitted with a different exhaust system?

Different software in the ECU which adds the pops & bangs

does this mod affect the interior noise level? ie with all windows closed whilst cruising. I have an e63 with the 5.5ltr Biturbo, and an SL500 with the 4.7 ltr Biturbo.both just a little too quiet for my liking.

Does sound better but like all the CLS V8 resonator deletes I've listened to it makes a strange flappy noise on the overrun.

The overrun sound is what most people aim for :)

@@tippy35075 yes you're correct, the reason for an H or X pipe is to smooth out the V8 pulses, as a side benefit you get slightly improved scavenging. I don't have a crossover on my V8 either & there is a bit of a chuffing sound at idle, but I can live with that as it gives the true traditional V8 sound everywhere else in the rev range.

Gotta disagree about droning. Had a few Merc V8s and only one AMG. The non AMGs are pretty much silent at motorway speeds. The AMG is not, I like the sound but to say it doesn't drone is not true.

I have a CLK55 AMG with the resonator deleted...there is no droning ,,,but you can just hear the exhaust when cruising whereas before it was silent.
